Rebooting one Instance on a SQL 2008 Server with multiple instances installed

Hello, Hoping someone can answer the following questions ... If I have SQL Server 2008 with multiple Named Instances configured on it, can I reboot one Named Instance without rebooting any of the other Named Instances, or without having to reboot the entire server ? SQL Server DTS Designer Components installed but can not find on the computer

I am in urgent need of help.

I have MS Access database to be converted into the SQL Server database.

Now I downloaded and installed MS SQL Server 2005 Management Studio and connected to the SQL Server database.

Now, I have to import the Access data in SQL server through SQL Server 2000 Import/Export client tool, for which I installed SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer COmponent.

I was able to install in the computer but I can not find any component on my computer.

I checked C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\    but I did not find any DTS\Binn\Dts*.exe there.  I do not know how and where to start the wizard to get the Import/Export utility.

I also checked in explorer Start->All Programs , menu but only See MS SQL Server 2005 and nothing related to DTS.

Please let me know what should I do and where to look for the components on my computer.

LDAP - Can't find server

Hey people,

I would like to get a persons name from their username - a common query on forums i know, but i haven't managed to get mine working yet and any help would be appreciated.

I currently have this code that I found here: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=612655 (Thanks Chris128)

I have adapted it from VB into VB.net. The page renders but when i enter my username into the Username textBox and hit the submit button (Which calls IsUser) I just get "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." I have tried lots of other code but I always get this response...

If anyone can help by posting links to a tutorial or another post for code that they know works, i will give it a go.

TSWebAccess Webpart can't find Terminal Server

a. Windows Server 2008 with TS Web Access installed and MOSS 2007

b. Windows Server 2008 R2 in Remote Desktop Services installed and configured.

The SharePoint web part is installed and I an add the web part in the site. But when I try to add the terminal server name I get:

TS Web Access was not able to access the specified terminal server. Verify that the computer account of the TS Web Access server is added to the TS Web Access Computers security group on the terminal server.

Any ideas why this is happening.  I saw other threads with the same error and no answer yet, so I guess I'm not the only one having the problem.

Detect other versions of SQL Server, or SQL server instances on a computer

Hi All, I want to detect other versions of SQL Server, or SQL server instances on a computer. I used the recommended Microsoft C# example by using the SQL Server Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider. http://msdn.microsoft.com/he-il/library/dd981032(en-us,SQL.100).aspx SQL server 2005 has been correctly identified on my PC with Windows 7 64 bit OS. Then I uninstalled the SQLserver and all its tools/components. But even after uninstall the utility detects the SQL server 2005 as if it was not removed. What is an alternative for the correct detection of the SQL server installed on PC? Thanks in advance Dmitry

Where to find the latest list of critical SQL Server fixes?

Hi, Where can I find the latest list of critical SQL Server fixes?

Do SharePoint 2007 and VS2010 have to be installed to the same Windows Server machine?

For WSS 3.0 development using VS 2005, I learned that we need to install VSeWSS to the Windows Server where the WSS 3.0 was installed.  For MOSS 2007 development using VS 2010, do we need to have VS 2010  nstalled to the same Windows Server?  Thanks, Jeffrey

Visual Studio 2010 can't find the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Server when compiliing, Standalone vs

I'm wondering if we installed Visual Studio correctly cos when we get into Visual Studio 2010 the "Deploy as a Farm Solution" is the only available button option and the "Deploy as a Sandbox Solution" is un-selectable, grayed out, assuming the "Sandbox" solution is the "Standalone" approach? So when we go to compile a Workflow, the error message says the Sharepoint Server is not found" Could this "Deploy as Farm Solution" be a problem when we were instructed to install Sharepoint 2010 Foundation as a "Standalone" install? in other words we're trying to find out why when we go to compile a Workflow in Visual Studio 2010 that it can't find the Sharepoint Server Step 3: Install SharePoint 2010 1.  To install SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint Foundation 2010, open a Command Prompt window, and then type the following at the command prompt: On the Choose the installation you want page, click Standalone to install everything on one developer workstation. Thanks very much for any suggestions, ideas or pointers! BobK

SSRS2005: Is it safe to manually remove instances from the Keys table in the report server database?

I have a problem with redundant reporting services instances still hanging around in the initialization pane of the RS configuration wizard and I can't get rid of them. The problem arose when we had new webfarms and before I had removed all references to the old ones from the initialization screen, the old webfarms had been switched off, removed from the network and dismantled. Therefore when I try to 'de-initialize' them, I get an error stating that reporting services cannot connect to them and when I run reports, a fair few are trying to run on the old webfarms which no longer exist and are disappearing into the void. There's a table in the report server database called Keys whch contains details of these intances and i'm wondering if its safe to remove these via SQL commands without breaking reporting services on other machines.   As a side note: All this stems from the fact that when you uninstall Reporting Services, not all of the files / references are removed. So as a general word of warning, if you do an uninstall of RS2005, you'll need to make sure everything's gone before re-installing, throwing away old machines etc. These include folders in IIS and these old instances as mentioned above.

Can I have two instances (SQL 2005 - 2008) at the same server?

Hello, I have a Windows 2008 R2 with sql server 2005 x64. I would like to have both instances (SQL server 2005 x64 and 2008 x64) at the same server, each one having its own databases. Is the possible? What should I pay attention to? Thank youChristos

VS 2008, in addition to VSeWSS, has to be installed to the WSS3.0/MOSS2007 web server?

We just started to develop SharePoint Intranet by using WSS 3.0.  To get a first hand experience in developing SharePoint Web Parts in VS 2008, I plan to install VSeWSS to the web server where we installed WSS3.0, and MOSS2007 in the future. Do I still need to install VS 2008 to this web server, or I can develop SharePoint web parts from my workstation where VS 2008 was already installed?

Failed to find SharePoint server when using Microsoft Transporter Suite

When attempting to migrate a Lotus Domino application into MOSS 2007 using the Microsoft Transporter Suite 2007, I get the error: "Failed to find SharePoint server for URL: http://shp7/resimport".  I have installed the Transporter Suite on the SharePoint server (Windows 2003), and am running it under an account with full SharePoint admin rights.  I fill out the Target SharePoint site and Target SharePoint list boxes as directed in the Transporter console's help.  I know the site is running, as I can see it when I use http://shp7/resimport in IE from the server.  Anybody else experience this problem?
