How to access remote Database across WinForm?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I know this forum is not the place to discuss this question, but i am pretty sure there is someone here to give me some info.

I am new to WinForm development and I completed very simple project already. My question is I cannot find any way to connect to Remote MS-SQL database. I have been searching web for two days but i dont see enough info.

I just need to connect to Remote Database, then run a SQL statement to fill a grid with required data. It is very straight forward procedure in ASP.NET but what about VB.NET?

how to access to a remote SQL server database?

hi everybody, I'm really a beginner with database and I don't know how can I access by example with SQL server management studio (express or not) to a remote sql database which is based on a remote server through internet. When I start SQL server management studio express I can put "name of the server" and authentication but I really don't know what to put here. Do I need to put a remote IP address? Does it work like that? Can i access to a remote database with SQL server management studio or I need something else? What I want to do is to begin, access to this database, and then, I would like to copy a table from this database to a local SQL server. Any help will be really appreciated! Thanks

SQL and Outlook: Enable Database Access and Updates Through Exchange and Any E-mail Client

Using Microsoft technologies, you can insert, edit, query, and delete database entries using any e-mail client such as Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or even WAP phone. While e-mail is certainly a powerful and widely used tool, it is usually not integrated with an application for performing any tasks other than sending reminders. The application scenario described here, an e-mail-based SQL update program, uses a simple data model; however, this solution will apply to any data model that you are working with. It will also eliminate the need for complex n-tier Internet applications and serves as a low maintenance solution for providing data access.

Upsize Your Database: Convert Your Microsoft Access Application to Take Advantage of SQL Server 7.0

What if you need to convert an existing Microsoft Access 97 database application into a true client-server application that is based on a SQL Server back end? If you know a little about Visual Basic and SQL Server, it's easy to make your app take advantage of the power and scalability provided by SQL Server 7.0. Using some concrete code examples, this article takes you step by step through converting the native Jet queries in your Access application into stored procedures and pass-through queries that SQL Server can use. You'll also learn how to pass on parameters when your client-server app calls these SQL Server stored procedures and queries.

Using Remote Data Access with SQL Server CE 2.0

Microsoft SQL Server CE edition is the database server built by Microsoft to run on mobile devices. Besides being a standalone database for mobile applications, SQL Server CE also allows you to connect to your desktop SQL Server 2000 and perform remote data access and merge replication. In this article, you will learn how to build a .NET Compact Framework mobile application using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and how it can perform remote data access using SQL Server CE 2.0.

For more information on .NET Compact Framework, see my previous article, "Developing Pocket PC Apps with SQL Server CE."

Getting an error when processing a dimension, Errors in the back-end database access module. OLE DB reported an overflow of the data type for column 0. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the 'xxxxxx' attribute of the 'Dim XXXXXX' dimension from the 'XXXXXXX' database was being processed. Content of this dimension is very similar to one that is processing no problem. The content of the dimension is one field only of type date.  The original content was imported through SSIS from a DB2 database on an iseries machine.  Thought a first the issue was because of the data contains some null values but the dimension the process OK also has some null  values.  The dimension that processes ok is also a single field of type date. Remote access to SQL-Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 denied

Hello, after successful installation of SQLServer 2008 R2 and providing my account as a 'sysadmin' I failed to access the server from a management studio of a SQL-Server 2005 release installation. The TCP/IP access is enabled and the server is configured to allow access from remote connections.  The error message reads a follows: ' A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify ... (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:2)' Accessing the SQL-Server by the management studio from the local host works fine but trying to acces by command line using the '-E' parameter fails. Is there any additional configuration on the operation system level needed to open a SQL-Server 2008 instance to be selected by other members of  domain groups from the non-local host? Thank you for the answer
