Can server.tranfer be used to post data to another page

I am using fluent NHibernate with WebForms and I am trying to build a page where I allow a user to post a status update on their profile page and I a using a .asmx WebService to post the data to the database and then returnig a StatusUpdate instance to the page to be used by jQuery. I have a couple problems.
1) First off when I return a string from the WebService(i was testing) the textbox where the user enters their status doesnt empty the contents. And since the page doesnt refresh even if I manally clear out the textbox and put in something else, it still posts the previous status to the database again. How do I fix this?
2) Secondly, when I return the StatusUpdate Object from the Webservice I cant the results to display anything. Like I sad, Im using jQuery to make an AJX call to the WebService.
Here is my code:
User Profile Page:
Status: <asp:Label ID="status" runat="server"></asp:Label><span style="font-size:.7em;"><asp:Label ID="statustime" runat="server"></asp:Label></span><br />
<textarea id="statusBox" rows="3" cols="40"></textarea><br />
<input type="button" value="Update Status" onclick="SetStatus(); return false;
now i hav stored all data like user name, data fatched from database of that user
and i stored that data and user name such as:
string strUserName="user name"
dataset ds =new dataset();// data of that user
now i wan yo send d whole data from my login page to user profile page
can anybody help me for that...................
and plz tell me that how much is this way is benifitial to send data from one page to another page
plz........kindly waiting for positive rply
I have some logging that has to be done, which are some database update or inserts.
However this logging is of no importance to the user, so I only want to process the data/logs after the page is completed for the user.As of now, if I process the data while the page is loading, I go from 1.4 to 2.0 speed (server side time processing of code), which is quite a bit comparing it is of no use to the user.
So I want this code only executed after that the page is complete.
I've been checking out Ajax, async pages etc, but the problem is it still gets executed before the page is rendered to the client, which means the client will have to wait longer then it is not being processed.
I've been checking out Threadpool.queueBackgroundWorker, however if I get it correct, this will still be executed before the page is shown to the user, as it has to complete before the prerender.
Then I thought about creating a new thread, and do the processing there, which would not have my page waiting to complete the data/logging.However when I have 100 or 200 users loading pages at the same time, then that would mean I would be creating 200 threads on those loads, which I doubt will be good for performance. So if I want to solve this, I would have to create my own threadpool and only assign for example a max of 40 threads to it which can pr
Strange but true. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Has anyone found a solution that will allow me to have page numbers for paging in a data view web part. For instance, if I have 40 items/rows and I set the paging to display 10 items, I'd like the paging to show 1 2 3 4 rather than showing 1-10 and having
to click next over and over to get to a specific item.
I found this article, but it is for 2003 and doesn't seem to apply to 2007 or if it does I am not able to really figure out how.
Thanks in advance.
1. I have a treeview on left side in a panel in my aspx page and I have a Text box and a Search button on the right panel. On entering a search criteria and clicking the Search button, I want to get the data needed for the treeview (FYI - I have a webservice call for that) and then populate the treeview completely but keep it collapsed to the root node.
Each time I enter the search criteria and click the Search button, I don't want to post the entire page (and also don't like the page flicker), how can I achieve this? I know that in order to avoid complete postback upon Search button click, I can do so by client callback and get the data needed for the treeview, but in this case, I have to build the treeview nodes as table - row/cells and handle all the events and handlers myself, which I want to avoid (also means that I won't be able to take advantage of the inherent expand and collapse capabilities of the Treeview). On the other hand, if I use the OnTreeNodePopulate event handling of the Treeview control, using the C# script code on the aspx markup, it doesn't recognize the entered criteria in the Text box. So either way,
I am wondering if the Microsoft Report Viewer control allows for display changes. Say for instance a user wants would like to see all the data requested then another time would like to toggle thru the pages of infomation. So does anyone know if the control allows for display changes from complete view to paginated viewing. I am using MS VS 2008 with ASP.NET 3.0. Thanks for your response.
