How to search grid results based on user provided values?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I would like a user to be able to enter some criteria in a search box and then have them click on a search button to filter the data using a "contains" logic and not an exact match.

 Anyone know if this is possible?

I have downloaded the DynamicFilterRepeater and that works well, but you end up with one search box per colulmn...I would like to have one search box that columns could subscribe to and that would be filtered automatically.

Not sure how to go about doing something like that...I'm still quite new to DD and I am still trying to get a grasp on the basic stuff.

created new user search doesn't return results

I created a new users by adding them to an AD group that is already in the site and has contribute access.  The user has the ability to login, add content, and everything the goes with contributing, but cannot search for content on the site.

The other users have no issue and when they search for something; for instance the location of something in the document library "new york" they receive results; however this user doesn't.  I also do not see the new user in the "All People" list.

How do I make it possible for a popup to come up, based upon the selection a user makes in a grid vi

I've got a ListView object, with a GridView within it, where I'll be putting data.  The list view is in SingleMode.  I want it so that the user can select a row, and based upon criteria in that row, it would then bring up a popup display relevant data to the selected row.

There are 2 possible ways I envision this could happen.  I could put a button somewhere in the row (at this point I don't know how, but I'm sure it can be done), so that if the user clicks on the button, then my code would determine what it needs to from that client, to bring up the popup and display the additional data.

The second way I can envision this happening is I could make one of the columns a hyperlink field, still showing the data that column has to show for that row.  When the user clicks on the hyperlink, then it would bring up the same popup that I discribed for the first scenario.  However, again, I don't know how to do this.

So the question is, which is the "correct" or "more common" way of doing it, and how is it done?  (I'm working with VS 2010, so this is WPF 4).

Auto populate custom fields with values based on user selected in People Editor

I have a requirement wherein I want to populate the currently logged in user in people editor field of my custom web part and based on the user in people editor field, Also I should be able to select any other user if needed. I need to fill some other custom fields as well. I am able to get this quite easily. But suppose I remove the current logged user's name from people editor and enter some other name and then click on Check Names, then how do I change the custom fields based on the new user ?

    PeopleEditor peNameofFileRequestor = new PeopleEditor();
    TextBox txtPhoneNumber;
    TextBox txtDepartmentName;
    SPContext cnxtCurrent;

    protected override void CreateChildControls()

      cnxtCurrent = SPContext.Current;
      SPUser usrCurrent = cnxtCurrent.Web.CurrentUser;

      peNameofFileRequestor.MultiSelect = false;
      peNameofFileRequestor.SelectionSet = "User";
      peNameofFileRequestor.AutoPostBack = true;

      System.Collections.ArrayList entityArrayList = new System.Collections.ArrayList();
      PickerEntity entity = new PickerEntity();
      entity.Key = usrCurrent.LoginName;
      entity = peNameofFileRequestor.ValidateEntity(entity);

Search results and refinement repeated values

I have an strange issue with the results and the refinement i will try to explain the best i can.

I have an infopath form that has combo field with multiple values in a repeating section, then i promote this fields as a combined to show all the values in the doc lib so if the users choose red in one section then repeat the section and choose green in other section i get this output in the doc lib "red green", i made a managed property out of this field and use it in the refinement panel when i do the search i get the same output most of the time "red green" some times i get this "red; green yellow" with a ";"but always this happen when i check the form and have the exact values so the ";" doesnt really affect. Then i made a custom filter generator to use it in the refinement this works spliting the results if they have a line feed " " or ";" it works fine i get red (1) green (1) yellow (1). In the production enviroment i have the same form the only difference is that first the values show the fist value not a combined so i update the form to show the fields i required as combined field. The thign is that here i see the fields in the doc lib fine red green yellow for one user but when i do a search i get the results like these red;red green and yellow it adds the first value after"

Search in MOSS2007 does not show any results only for my user for 5 days already

Hi, everyone,

Search works properly for another user, who is also administrator. And I am trying to figure out this mystery: I was added to the SharePoint team site a week ago, so far 5 days I am an administrator. Crawler should update at least on a daily basis, as far as I understand. Unfortunately, I am not an enterprise administrator, so I need to list possible causes of an issue and forward them to her, if it is her responsibility. The issue persists with all browsers and was experienced on different computers.

Any advice for further digging will be highly appreciated.

Best, Ivan

How to display a count of search results with keywords in a label?

Sorry for a basic post here; I am very new to VB!

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

(e.g.) "24 results found for 'blue sky clouds' "

...where the integer represents the results count, and the keywords and/or drop-down list selections are included in the string.

If no results are found I would like the label to display:

(e.g.) "No results were found that match your selection. Please try again"

I would also like the label to be invisible until a search occurs.

Thanks in advance!

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

How can I prioritise search results to show where document metadata has a hit first and then where t

When my users run a search against a site with a bunch of document libraries they will often search for terms that are in the title of the doc, if they do know the title they will put that in. What I would like to do is have the results ordered such that if any hits are on the document metadata (eg Title) then they are presented first and any results that are from hits on the content of the documents are presented later.

So, if they get the title spot on in their search query that document will appear first .... if they don't get it right then the likelyhood is that the title is something like what they entered so similar titled docs are presented first and then those with matching content ....

How can I achieve this?

How to filter the search result based on a column value?

I do have search scope scoped at a list which contains attachment. I will use this scope to search (full text search) on this list then I need to filter the result based on a column which is in the same list. How do I do that? Thank you.

No Results matching your search were found. WSS 3.0

I've got one sharepoint 3.0 site, which is a hostNamedSiteCollection which won't return any results when we search it - searching the entire site or a single list both produce the same "no results matching your search were found".
The site uses Windows Authentication.  We have no Alternate Access Mappings set up. It is regular HTTP
I've added test content to other sites housed in the same Web Application and searched - that new data is appearing in the results.
I did a backup using STSADM and restored the site to my dev server (as both a hostNamedSiteCollection & a regular site collection) - searches return results just fine.
I deleted the site from the prod server and restored it (into a different content database even!) from a backup  I made with STSADM - no results are returned.
I restored the site to the same web application as a Standard site (http://webapp/sites/sitename) (NOT a host named site collection) and results ARE returned.

I've looked at the trace logs & application logs on the server, but can't find any errors that I can tell might be related..

This is the only site I've ever seen have this problem.  We have plenty of other hostNamedSiteCollections and search is working fine on them.
