How do I make changes in a website that has been partly pre-compiled

I have been asked to make some changes to a website developed by someone else and it has a lot of unfamiliar stuff going on. In the first place, the website has some strange file types: csproj, csproj.user and .designer.cs. Second, there is a folder under the root folder called Datalayer. I have been making changes to code in files in this folder, but my changes are not being implemented when I build and run the website. Instead, it seems to be using some pre-compiled version of these. Many of the aspx.cs pages have a line at the top: using OceanLED.DataLayer; There is also a /bin folder under the root folder, which contains a .dll file and a .pdb file for the website. There is also a /obj/debug folder, also containing a .dll file and a .pdb file for the site. Finally, when I try to build, I get loads of these cryptic warning messages: Warning 1 The type 'OceanLED.DataLayer.WarrantyClaim' in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs' conflicts with the imported type 'OceanLED.DataLayer.WarrantyClaim' in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\Bin\OceanLED.dll'. Using the type defined in 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs'. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\OceanLED\DataLayer\WarrantyClaim.cs 287 17 C:\...\OceanLED\ How do I get it to use MY code.

How to make mobile version of company website?

Hi, I'm about to begin creating a mobile version of our company's website, and I have some questions.  I've spent many hours reading and researching online, but I can't find some of the answer I need. 1.  How can I test a mobile website locally?  Are there emulators I can download?  Can I plug a phone into my PC and test from the device?  I'd like to see how the website looks on the device locally so I can make changes accordingly. 2.  With the different screens and resolutions on mobile devices, what is the best width to use for the page layout?  Is there a set width of pixels that is a standard to follow, or should it be set at 100%? 3.  What is the best way to handle mobile browser detection?  So far I've found that I should add code to the Page_Load event of the Master page of our website that checks Request.Browser.IsMobileDevice and redirects to the mobile site if this returns true.  Is this the best way? These are my biggest issues with getting started.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

How to create Asynchronous website-make the site work faster?

Hi,I developed an ASP.NET 3.5 website to read a few XML files generated by a third party software and convert them to a single Excel Book. The entire process takes more than 1 HOUR and even before completing the entire work, the system comes back with a message like - "Page cannot be displayed" and it fails. So, I am planning to make this website an Asynchronous site (I think if I make this site asynchronous it will work faster and will not stop execution before completing - new ideas are welcome.) I am new to this concept. Can anyone help me with some examples of how to convert a normal website to Asynchronous website? At present my site has 3 tiers and the reading of XML pages and writing them into Excel are happening in the Data Access Layer. Thanks

How to make Content Deployment work in the same farm (Load Balanced)?

I've been tasked with getting content deployment to work in our soon to be released sharepoint 2010 environment. A little background info, it has never worked in our past environments both 2003 and 2007. I believe that much of this is relative to our configuration(s), but I'm also wondering if some of this is due to a misunderstanding/limitation of the capabilities of content deployment on our end. I've seen a few basic diagrams for content deployment, but none of these seem to fit our setup. First off, the farm environment that we are planning to run content deployment on consists of 1 indexing server, 2 front end servers that work as load balanced A and B nodes, and finally a SQL backend. What we are looking to do is use content deployment to move data from the A and B nodes. Based on information that I've read I don't believe that content deployment works that way, but everyone in my team claims it does. They also state that we had an MS consultant onsite working on this in the past and he never said that this type of setup wouldn't work. Can someone please clarify this for me?

Asynchronous update of page immediately after load to improve response time

DataTable - Load from IDataReader - CreateDataReader - ReadXml WriteXml - Free ADO.NET Tutorials

The DataTable in ADO.NET 2.0 has been seriously beefed up and I absolutely love it. Not everything we consume deals with multiple resultsets and requires the ever popular DataSet. With the cool new features in the ADO.NET 2.0 DataTable, we can get many of the cool features in the DataSet without all the extra baggage and memory footprint particular to multiple resultsets.

Resources for soup-to-nuts of website development lifecycle

I'm looking for a website, or book, or some resource that can lead me down the path from website design to implementation/deployment. I know that covers a ton of material, but I am really looking for the bullet points, or high-lights, to make sure that I think of everything. I am mostly fuzzy on security measures and deployment since I haven't been involved in those aspects before.

Background:  I have been a programmer for many years, and with a little over 3 years' experience coding websites in vb.net/asp.net with sql server. Due to recent restructuring/layoffs at our firm, I find myself in the position of lead IT person - I'm feeling a bit underqualified but I feel this is my chance to work hard and step up to it. I'm very good at vb.net, master pages, css, asp.net, sql server. I'm worried that the person who was the lead before was doing a bunch of stuff that I'm not aware of...so I need to start learning more than just the code. I don't need lessons on how to code anything...I need to learn how it all gets put together - the next step up.

thanks for any suggestions!
