Using User Controls as Page Templates in Dynamic Data

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi All,

Recently, I saw an article at:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/davidebb/archive/2008/11/25/using-user-controls-as-page-templates-in-dynamic-data.aspx

However, when I turn on the Select and Update Commands for the gridview, I get the following behaviours:

- Select: Columns disappear, leaving the template column

- Update: Data was not updated to the database.

Please kindly assist.

Thank you in advance.

Warmest Regards,

leroylll

Dynamic Data Templates in GridView ASP.NET 3.5

At a high level, Dynamic Data Templates can be seen as a system to very quickly build up a User Interface linked with the relevant data model, immediately enabling you to perform CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) on the database using the specified data source. They provide a powerful method for building up these kinds of applications, and I'm going to focus on an overview of what Dynamic Data Templates actually are, and a few ways of customizing them to suit industry needs.

How to process data AFTER page is completely loaded for the user?

I have some logging that has to be done, which are some database update or inserts.

However this logging is of no importance to the user, so I only want to process the data/logs after the page is completed for the user.
As of now, if I process the data while the page is loading, I go from 1.4 to 2.0 speed (server side time processing of code), which is quite a bit comparing it is of no use to the user.

So I want this code only executed after that the page is complete.

I've been checking out Ajax, async pages etc, but the problem is it still gets executed before the page is rendered to the client, which means the client will have to wait longer then it is not being processed.

I've been checking out Threadpool.queueBackgroundWorker, however if I get it correct, this will still be executed before the page is shown to the user, as it has to complete before the prerender.

Then I thought about creating a new thread, and do the processing there, which would not have my page waiting to complete the data/logging.
However when I have 100 or 200 users loading pages at the same time, then that would mean I would be creating 200 threads on those loads, which I doubt will be good for performance. So if I want to solve this, I would have to create my own threadpool and only assign for example a max of 40 threads to it which can pr

MVP Pattern : how user controls communicate with each other on the same aspx page

 Hello,

I have 2 usercontrols: ucc1 and ucc2. ucc2 's data is dependent on the data selection in ucc1. How would i implement this with MVP pattern or I should handle it thru the main page by reading the data in ucc1 and set it to ucc2?

User clicking on dynamic controls ????

With this code:

  private void Form1_MouseClick(object sender, MouseEventArgs e)

  {

   Size imageSize = new Size(17, 17);

   if (e.Button == MouseButtons.Left)

   {

    PictureBox spor = new PictureBox();

    spor.Image = sporType;

    spor.Size = imageSize;

    spor.Location = new Point(imageSize.Width * (e.Location.X / imageSize.Width), imageSize.Height * (e.Location.Y / imageSize.Height));

    this.Controls.Add(spor);

   }

  }

the user can insert controls - lots of different pictures in pictureboxe - on a form.

If the user clicks on one of them, I want to do some things with that particular picturebox - delete it or change the image.

How can I know WHEN and WITCH of them the user clicks on ?

Can a Dynamic Data page update a View?

Hi,

I just started working with Dynamic Data (asp.net 4, VS 2010 express, C#) and have tried to simplify the displaying/not displaying of columns by using a simple, single table, updatable SQL view.  Adding and displaying the view work and the in-line edit and update controls are there and seem functional but I can't access any of the columns.

Does DD not support updatable views or have I missed something?

Thanks,

Dynamic Data Field template edits - Tooltip text, Dynamic Data Page template edits - field sort

I have an ASP.net website build in VB 2010 web dev pro using 4.0 framework.  Its a dynamic data site and I am having some trouble formating some of the field and page canned templates.

Q1: Field Templates - the tooltip code (TextBox1.ToolTip = Column.Description) is within the ascx.vp pages for each of the field templates.  Where can I update each columns description (as the code references) so the tooptip will be column/field specific.  If its not as straight forward as that, I was trying to write an if/else statement because the tooltip code is set at the field type level (decimal, date, etc) and I want it to be column specific.  example;

if column.value = Financial Impact

then  TextBox1.ToolTip = "enter financial impact in whole dollars"

else TextBox1.ToolTip = "next fields tooltip text"

Dynamic Data, Multiple Tables in one page?

Hi there,

So I have a Dynamic Data Project with a few custom pages that are not the standard list/insert/update pages. So I created my custom page, Process.aspx. It's a regular web form with a dynamic data manager, plus a LINQDATASOURCE. That works fine. However, inside of my main formview I'm going to have a subformview. So I set up a second LINQDATASOURCE, but it seems when I try and use Dynamic Data Controls inside of my sub form view, it can't seem to find the MetaTable, even though I set the subformview up with its own data source. Can I have two dynamic data managers somehow, one for each data source? I don't think there's a way to associate a dynamic data manager to a specific data source, as far as I can tell.

Or, can I do something like :

<asp:DynamicControl runat="server" DataField="Client.SubField" />

Any insight is appreciated!

Get primary key values from insert page and route to details page in a Dynamic Data Domain Service A

I finally figured out how to retrieve primary key values from the insert page template that are inserted via defaults in a SQL Server database. I wanted to get the keys so that I could route the user from the insert page template to the details page template (regardless of whether it’s a custom route or not). There are a number of scenarios where separate insert and details pages are desirable, and routing from the insert page back to the list page is not desirable as Dynamic Data does out of the box. Since I could not find an answer to this problem anywhere with significant effort, I decided I would document it for others, I hope you find it useful - it turns out that it's quite simple under 10 lines of code. I also applied the same idea to a Dynamic Data Entities application which works exactly the same except for two minor changes, I have documented it below as well.

For starters, as is documented plenty elsewhere but bears repeating here, you must first annotate your Entity Data Model with ScaffoldColumn = false for identity columns and guids that get assigned with newid() in thedatabase. This tells Dynamic Data not to attempt to pass a null value from the page through to
