Error code -2068578304 When Installing Express SP1 x64 as a Part of Visual Studio 2010 Installation

Howdy! I was installing the VS 2010 on my server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and all of a sudden the setup finished with " Setup completed, however, there were failures reported installing optional components. " The final status is success. The left-hand pane of the finish page reads as: The following component failed to install: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64).   Leaving alone the fact why setup executed the custom action that tried to install SQL Server Express Edition and Compact Edition when I just asked it to install SQL components (which presumably should be SQL SMO and DMO libraries), I would like to understand what had happed to Express install.   Inspecting the .\Logs\dd_error_vs_vstdcore_100.txt file gives the following record:   [09/16/10,16:06:51] Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1 (x64): [2] Error code -2068578304 for this component is not recognized. I'm developing Visual Studio 2010 solution for site pages. I’ve created Site Pages in SharePoint 2010 and I’m trying to access Session variables in code behind in ASP.NET but it throws the following error.

Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration>\<system.web>\<httpModules> section in the application configuration.

I set the page directive as enableSessionState=&quo

Visual Studio 2010 - Design Mode Error - "Error Creating Control"

Greetings,

I am using Visual Studio 2010.  I was debugging a web application and an exception happened and VS 2010 froze.  I ended the VS 2010 in the task manager and when I went back to developing, I found on every form for every ASP.net control I get:

Error Creating Control -

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Also I am unable to edit  the form or add anything from the toolbox.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

Error to Add a Database to a Visual Studio 2010 Project via the App_Data Folder

I am trying to add a new database via the App_Data Folder and I receive an error described below.

When I attempt to add ANY TYPE OF SQL SERVER DATABASE through the App_Data folder I receive this error "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2008 to function properly.  Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl."

I can create a db via SQL Server Mgmt Studio, it connects fine, and I can see tables.

Visual Studio- Server Explorer connects fine to the Database, I can see the tables.

Im running XP SP3 w/ Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer.  I had previously removed SQL Server Express.

Why cant I access the database within my project, when Im able to connect to this fine within Visual Studio Server Explorer?

Error connecting to SQL express - Visual Studio 2010

 Hi,

I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 and was getting the following error message when running the code (F5) "Error connecting to SQLexpress". The error page prevented me from seeing the webpage.

I consulted many different trouble-shooting recommendations, however, in my case, it was simply a problem with SQL. When I reinstalled SQL server 2008 on my computer, the error message was gone and I was able to see the ASP.net web development page.

Error creating control contentplaceholder1 Visual Studio 2010 design mode

After I imported a VS 2008 web project to VS 2010, I can't view aspx pages that have master pages in design mode. The page design mode displays "error creating control - contentplacehoder1 object reference not set to an instance of an object." The project builds and runs fine though. I have only one master page that all other aspx pages reference and I don't have any nested master pages. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Visual Basic 9.0 error in Visual Studio 2010

I just upgraded from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2010 yesterday. I tried opening my site; it started the conversion wizard and seemed to work OK. However, I get the error "Visual Basic 9.0 does not support this kind of lambda expression." Here is my code:

Dim MatchLength As Integer = Url.Path.Length
                        Dim D As GetRedirectedUrlDelegate = _
                          Function()
Dim NewQuerystring As QuerystringContext = Url.QuerystringContext.Clone()
          NewQuerystring.ValueCollection.RemoveKey("id")
          Return Url.Clone(NewPath, NewQuerystring)
        End Function

            Match = New RedirectMatch(MatchLength, d)
            Return True

The error is on the "Function()" line. I thought multi-line lambda functions were one of the new VS2010 features. Why am I getting a VB9.0 error

Parallel Debugging: Debugging Task-Based Parallel Applications in Visual Studio 2010

In Visual C++ 10 and the Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Microsoft is introducing new libraries and runtimes to significantly ease the process of expressing parallelism in your code base, together with new tool support for performance analysis and debugging of parallel applications. In this article, you will learn about debugging support in Visual Studio 2010, much of which is focused on task-based programming models.

Debugging Tips with Visual Studio 2010

This is the twenty-sixth in a series of blog posts I'm doing on the VS 2010 and .NET 4 release. Today's blog post covers some useful debugging tips that you can use with Visual Studio.  My friend Scott Cate (who has blogged dozens of great VS tips and tricks here ) recently highlighted these to me as good tips that most developers using Visual Studio don't seem to know about (even though most have been in the product for awhile).  Hopefully this post will help you discover them if you aren't already taking advantage of them.  They are all easy to learn, and can help save you a bunch of time. Run to Cursor (Ctrl + F10) Often I see people debugging applications by hitting a breakpoint early in their application, and then repeatedly...(read more)

Visual Web Dev 2010 error or new user error?

In a new web app, using the fresh new build, I added some fields that I wanted processed during login, i.e. common Profile stuff... added them to web.config.... sadly it appears that Studio 2010 will not automatically create a ProfileCommon class from ProfileBase, as previous studio web IDE's would do - that was frustrating for a bit, then I just created my own class... but that led to this interesting problem.

When populating the new profile attributes, the code behind class could not resolve any of the textbox referenced, all showed as not defined... figuring it was something simple, I kept going... added a customValidation control I needed, but though I double clicked the event in studio, and it dutifully created the stub code for me... the event never fired.

Determined to locate the problem I poored through forum entries and every reference I could (found lots of folks complaining about the profileCommon class stuff which is what led me to create my own class finally) -- but nothing specific to the problem I had of not seeing defined controls that were clearly there and working nor my customValidator control.

But... all of the code samples I saw - none had the ContentTemplate section... curious I removed that section, other items started to fail that were logical (header tags, etc.) but, my code behind section snapped back into order, intelisense n
