Property of a base UserControl it's not handled correctly

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hello,I have a class that is a base class for my server controls. Inside this class I have a property that can take values from an enumeration.public enum PanelModeEnum { Add = 1, Edit = 2, ReadOnly = 3 } public class BaseControl : System.Web.UI.UserControl { #region Event Handling Management #endregion public PanelModeEnum PanelMode { get; set; } public virtual void ChangePanelMode(PanelModeEnum newMode) { this.PanelMode = newMode; } } I have then several user controls that inherits from this BaseControl and that I add into aspx pages declaratively<gsl:PhoneNumberUC ID="ucPhoneDetail" runat="server" PhoneNumberType="Home" />I would like to show one the derived BaseControl classes inside a ModalPopupExtender using server-side code. Before doing this I call the ChangePanelMode with a value from the PanelModeEnumucPhoneDetail.PhoneNumberType = ptype; ucPhoneDetail.ChangePanelMode(PanelModeEnum.Add); this.mpePopupPhone.Show(); But when, inside the inherited user control I check for the PanelMode property likeif (this.PanelMode == PanelModeEnum.Add) { ... } the value of this.PanelMode is always equal to zero. Why?Kindly regards

Category attribute of user control property does not work correctly in categories tab.

I have a User Control (ascx) and a property which a want to display in my categories tab in Visual Studio in the category named "Styles".

[Category("Styles"), DefaultValue(""), Description("The value for formating something.")]
public String MyFormatProperty
set { /* the code for set */; }
get { /* the code for get */; }

And here is the problem: Actually I do not need a get, because I only have to set the property (write only property). But when I omit the get, the property is displayed in the "Misc" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio. Only when I code the get as well, then the property is displayed correctly in the "Styles" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio.

Does anybody know why? How can I display the category correctly only with set?

Thanks, S.

UserControl with a control property?

Hi... I have defined a UserControl wich needs to reference another control like this: <ctrl:Cook TheList="listView1" DefaultFileName="MyRecipe"></ctrl:Cook> The code behind of the control has the property defined:         public ListView TheList { get; set; } But I have a runtime error saying: 'ListView' type does not have a public TypeConverter class. And in design time I get: Property TheList of type ListView cannot be specified as string.   I know WPF is trying to read a string instead of a ListView, but dont know the magic solution. Maybe a converter? Please suggest the simpler solution you can, because this is not a vital requirement on the app. Thanks in advance for any help

Binding UserControl property to Page property

So what I'm trying to accomplish is this <uc3:UserControl ID="UserControl 1" runat="server" ClockNumber='<%=ClockNumber %>' Month='<%#Month %>' Year='<%#Year %>' />The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.Thanks for any suggestions

Use UserControl, where the base class is an abstract one.

When I inherits my usercontrol from an abstract class, I got the warning message on design time.

How can I overcome this warning message?

The designer must create an instance of type but it cannot because the type XYZ is declared as abstract.

Thanks :)

Referencing a Dependency Property in XAML of parent UserControl where the property setter acceptable

I hope that title wasn't too confusing. I'm going to try my hardest to explain what I am trying to do.

I have a child UserControl and parent UserControl. The child UserControl has a Dependency Property that I want to set in my parent UserControl. I want to see the set operation change the child UserControl visually while I change the xaml in the parent UserControl. This setter needs to require that it's value is selected from a specific subset of a set of objects.

How do I accomplish this?

The only thing I can think to do is to specify the name of the object being selected and handle the actual selection of that object in the callback of the dependency property setter.

Generic base class for WinForm UserControl

I have the same question as this gentleman does here , I will just copy and paste it here since he is articulating the issue better than I can.

I created a generic base class for a WinForm UserControl

public partial class BaseUserControl<T> : UserControl
    public virtual void MyMethod<T>()
        // some base stuff here

And a UserControl based on that:

public partial class MyControl : BaseUserControl<SomeClass>
    public override void MyMethod<SomeClass>()
        // some specific stuff here

It works fine, but MyControl cannot be edited in the VisualStudio Designer, because it says it cannot load the base class. I tried to define another class BaseUserControl, non generic, hoping it would load it, but the trick doesn't seem to work.

I already have a workaround: define an interface, IMyInterface<T>, and then create m

model not validating correctly in controller. Optional property with Required children fields

Basically I have RegisterModel2 that has a Person class. My requirement is that Phone Number and Address are not required for registration.  But if they try to enter a Phone number of Address then it should validate it.  Problem is that it is always stating that the child fields of Phone (area code, number) and child fields of  Address (street1,city,etc)  are required.  Is there a way to annotate  in the RegisterModel that a parent class is not Required but if any data in a child element is given then and only then should the child elements be validated?

My Person EDM class has a nullable 0.1 -> 0.1 navigation property to Phone and Address.

How do you handle this scenario?

Here is the person class

    public partial class Person

    public class Person_Validation
        [DisplayFormat(ConvertEmptyStringToNull = false)]
        [DisplayName("First Name")]
        public string FirstName { get; set; }

RowDelimiter property for FlatFile Connection not mapping to a variable correctly

I've ran into the following problem:

I have flat files originating from different systems (MS-DOS, AIX and Windows). Therefore the files have different line endings (CR, LF and CRLF respectively).
I'm using a Script Task inside a ForEach enumerator to find a row delimiter for each file and put the value into a string variable. Then I use Data Flow task to import the data from the flat file into the database. The script task runs fine and sets the variable value to {CR}, {LF} or {CR}{LF} for each file. Columns are delimited with "!" character.

When I map the RowDelimiter property of the FlatFile Connection Manager to the variable using Expressions the subsequent Data Flow task doesn't import the data correctly. I've tried using Format=Delimited and Format=RaggedRight (I removed the last column delimiter), both ways fail to import the data correctly.
Although the mapping of the ConnectionString property to a variable (ForEach populates this variable with the path of the file) works perfectly.

I've even tried setting up all combinations of quotes and brackets on the string variable value ("{CR}", '{CR}', {CR}, CR) ...

The platform  I'm working on is Windows Server 2008 x64 and SQL Server 2008 x64 ...

My current workaround idea is to write a Script Task that would replace all

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Visibility property is a very powerful and yet often overlooked property available in both WPF and Silverlight. It enables you to set Visibility of certain UIElement objects to different states like: Visible, Collapsed and Hidden (not supported by Silverlight). This tutorial shows you how to use it and how to bind to Visibility property

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB.net - C#.net.

n this simple article you will learn that how we can get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB and C#.net.

Get Pixel Format:

Image consists of pixels to get the format of the pixel we have a property named pixel format. This property returns an enumeration of pixel format. This enumeration tells the pixel format.

To demonstrate make a window application. Drag one button and a picture box on form.

Now write the following code on Button click event:

Jscript error: Object does not support property or method

 Hi, i have little knowledge on javascript but i need to use this code get from somewhere for a jquery to work.

I face this "Jscript runtime error: Object does not support property or method" whenever im trying to run this page.

In my experience, im get this error msg 9 out of 10 times i use javascript in my system.

Im using Microsoft Visual web developer 2008, i wonder if this is related to my problem, i not sure there is anything i need to add as reference or update anything.

But anyway, in short, i just couldn't use javascript code when using this development tool because of this sort of error.

Anyway, it happen that last time i tried use the same type of jquery code in another project and it seems to work well without an error.

But now when im try to use it again in this recent project i created, it come out with this error and i have no idea how to solve it even look through google and this forum.

It doesn't really seems like its the code problem itself although im not sure, because any javascript code just couldn't work.

So below is my code that i need to use.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src=&quo

How to change the default page base class?

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.

I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.

Can I replace the EntityObject as base-class in Entity Designer 3.5 sp1?

I'm using EF3.5sp1 for a project, and I've been working around many of its problems... as such, my entity partial classes have a lot of logic in them for change-tracking and whatnot.  Obviously, I'd like to factor this logic out into a common base class, but of course all my objects must derive from EntityObject.  Is it possible to tell them to derive from some class of my own invention (which would actually likely derive from EntityObject themselves)?

I'd rather avoid editing the EDMX file unless the changes will be safe on entity-model-update, since I'm still making changes to the database schema in this early state of my project.

Also, is there any good workaround for the fact that the change isn't tracked when you change EntityReference.EntityKey?

Is it possible to populate property choices from a database?

I'm creating my first server control, and have it working where I can set up an enum and the user can set a property's choices,  based off of that enum.  But I'd like it to pull records from a database and populate the list of choices for the property from a database.  This would allow me to add a new "Host System" to the database, and the other designers wouldn't have to get a new copy of the dll.

Custom Server Control Property not maintaining state

I have created a server control consisting of a TextArea and a div under it.  My goal is to create my own asp:TextArea type control.  the div is for a Character count of the text area and seems to work ok but i added a CharacterCountVisible property to the control that is always returning true.  See Proptery definition below

<Bindable(False), Category("Appearance"), DefaultValue("True"), Localizable(True)> Property CharacterCountVisible() As Boolean
        Return _CountBoxVisible
    End Get
    Set(ByVal value As Boolean)
        _CountBoxVisible = value
    End Set
End Property

Note the _CountBoxVisible variable is define inside the class as :

Dim _CountBoxVisible as Boolean = True

What I am trying to do is give the user/coder the option to show/utilize the char count feature.  Can make it disappear with textarea1.CharacterCountVisible = False but setting it to true will not make it display.

What am i missing
