Smart Tags: Simplify UI Development with Custom Designer Actions in Visual Studio

Windows Forms 2.0 components expose smart tags by utilizing Designer Actions. By taking advantage of this feature, you can add smart tags to your own custom components to make setting their properties and other actions much easier and developer-friendly.

.NET Internals: Tailor Your Application by Building a Custom Forms Designer with .NET

The design-time architecture of Windows Forms in the .NET Framework has made development much more flexible than it had been with MFC. With Windows Forms, you can drag one of your custom controls from the toolbox and drop it onto the Visual Studio design surface and even though Windows Forms knows nothing about the control, it's able to host it and let you manipulate its properties-not possible in MFC. In this article, the author discusses what's going on under the covers as you design your forms and then walks through the creation of a bare-bones forms designer.

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore

Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.

Custom Editform.aspx crashes Sharepoint Designer

Hi there,

I've recently designed a sharepoint list and customised newform.aspx and editform.aspx. I made copies of the originals then customised the copies.
On both forms I simply:

* Closed original List Form web part
* Added Custom List Form
* Added some section breaks (<tr>) to the form to break it into sections
* Added a new css style to change the background colour on the section breaks (table rows)

Now NewForm.aspx works fine. However after making above changes in EditForm.aspx, I saved it. However whenever I try to reopen EditForm.aspx in Sharepoint Designer (SD), SD crashes! I can only open it in Text view. The error details reported by SD are:

Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms

I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?

VS2010: Switching tabs in wpf designer

Hi, I have a problem with the WPF designer in VS 2010. I have a WPF UserControl which contains a TabControl with several Tabs (TabItems).  It was always possible to switch the tabs in the designer to see the content of the individual tabs. However, suddenly this stops working. I can not switch the tabs anymore. [EDIT] Seems to be a known issues? https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/531868/wpf-editor-tabcontrol-issues Workaround does not work for me (or I do not understand it correctly)... [/EDIT] Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jus

Returning custom error messages with an UserNamePasswordValidator

Ok, my head hurts from banging it against the wall. I'm new to WCF, I have searched for a solution for days, please help a desperate fellow programmer if you can :-( I have a WCF service hosted in IIS, I implemented a UserNamePasswordValidator, and it seems impossible to find a way to return a custom error message to the client when the user is not allowed in, this blows my mind. I have searched everywhere, many are asking the same question since 2006 and so far I haven't found an answer that works. If you are thinking of replying that it is not secure to return a custom error message to an unauthenticated client, please save yourself some time and don't do it. There are multiple enterprise business scenarios that this is required. Just in our organization an account could be locked out, in which case the user must be directed to the IT department to get it unlocked, it could be that the credentials are correct but the user hasn't paid their fees in which case they must be directed to the appropriate department, or it could even be that the user tried to access the service during a time of the day in which the service is not available. From searching around, I have tried doing the things below in the Validate method, however the client always receives a MessageSecurityException, which contains none of the custom messages that were originally thrown, neither in the object,

How to display breakpoint and debug visual cues with custom activity designer based on WorkflowViewE

Hi,   I am developing custom activity designers based on "WorkflowViewElement" instead of "ActivityDesigner" in my xaml. It allows me to have greater control of the look and feel of the designer. However I noticed that with this approach, the breakpoint visual cue (Dark red solid circle that appears on the left side of the designer when you set breakpoint on the designer) is not visible. It works fine when you write your designed based on "ActivityDesigner". The same behavior happens to the debug visual cue when you debugging the WF. It appears as bright yellow rectangle surrounding the activity designer if you are based on "ActivityDesigner", but it is not available when your designer is based on"WorkflowViewElement". Any help is highly appreciated. Li

Custom designer for a Flowchart activity?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for developing a custom designer for a Flowchart activity?  In actual fact, the Flowchart control we are using is a custom activity - it's not the regular .NET Flowchart activity, but our own creation with a collection for FlowNodes/etc.  We'd like to put a UI around it now as well ... mimicking the .NET Fllowchart designer.  Is that really possible, or extremely difficult?  It seems there's no real API or anything available for constructing the node connectors, arrows, etc.

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Sharepoint Designer need help returning Variables

Ok I am nearly there now with my holiday request form I have two lists one the is called annual leave reamaing this has the following columns Employee Name: Text Total Days: Number Days Taken: Number Days Remaining: Calculated Total Days - Days Taken and the other is the holiday booking form Employee Name: data taken from Employee name on annual Leave remaining Date From: Date Date To: Date Total days Taken: Number I am creating a workflow in sharepoint designer that when a new item is submitted someone gets tasked to approve or reject the holiday. If they approve it the annual holiday remaing list gets updated with the new days that are remaining and the user who created the item recieves an email also stating how many days that they have left, I had this working fine in Sharepoint 2007 however the variables that i am creating to capture data do not seem to be working properly. If i do a calculate in designer which is days requested plus days taken i get the input box called lookup for number displayed where i can pick the variables that i want to calculate but there is a new box at the bottom now which gives me the following choices As Double lookup Value (as Number) User ID (as Number) My ones are set to as double im not sure what they actually mean but it seems what ever i set them as i am not getting the correct information back. Lets say that a user books 10 days they ha

Custom markup extension or custom binding class?

Hey experts! I'm doing a project where I've encountered an issue I'd love some feedback on. I've created a custom Markup Extension called MyMarkupExtension, with two properties.  I can use it like below: <cc:DialogBorder Title="{local:MyMarkupExtension MyProperty='property value goes here', AnotherProperty='and another value here'}"> It works, and in 99% of the cases, it fits my needs perfectly.  In 1% of the cases, the values of MyProperty and AnotherProperty can not be set at design time, so I'd need some binding there. <cc:DialogBorder Title="{local:MyMarkupExtension MyProperty={Binding Path='SomePropertyOfTheViewModel'}, AnotherProperty='and another value here'}"> This presents my two questions (yes I did make only one post for 2 questions, bad karma...): 1. the binding inside my markup is not legal, after all, a binding can only be set on a DependencyProperty.  Is there any workaround which I could use for this problem at hand? In case there isnt... 2. I'm thinking about dropping the markup extension and creating a custom binding instead.  For this, I'd have to inherit from bindingbase, and so far I've read online that's one ____ of a nightmare.  Does anyone have some good code / examples on where to start? "The improbable we do, the impossible just takes

conditionally hide a field in a custom form using SharePoint Designer

I'm able to hide a field based on a security group. but, how do you hide a field based on a value in another field? Custom form opens, if fieldTwo = "taco", hide fieldOne.

Shell + WPF Designer + custom assembly

Hello! We try to use VS 2010 Shell to make admin workplace for our application framework. We want to use VS WPF designer to make and edit XAML markup. Markup only, not codebehind or something other. If we create xaml with controls from .NET Framework assemblies, it works right way. But we can't use our custom control libraries. Can you please tell if there is some way to make designer know about our assemblies and allow us to edit xaml-files with controls placed in those assemblies. Thankl you!
