What End-User products install Sql Server Express?

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have been trying to find/create a list of End-User (not developer or Server) products that install SQL Server Express (or any edition of Sql Server really), but I have not been able to find this information.

The reason for this is to justify to the corporate standards group for one of my clients, to allow one of their internal end-user products to do so also.  It would be easier to do this if I could point to commercial products (either Microsoft or third-party) that already do this.  I know that VS and BIDS do this, but the targeted desktops are not classified as "developer's clients", but "end-user clients".  And no, they cannot just use MS-Access instead, as it does not have the necessary features.

Thanks,

SQL-DMO Install on SQL Server 2005 Express Client

I am installing a Client side SQL 2005 Express that needs SQL-DMO. The Client computer does not have SQL Server 2005 Express installed. I have installed all the MDAC and .Net 2.0. The command line I'm using to try and install the SQL-DMO and XML modules is: SQLEXPR_ADV ADDLOCAL=Tools_Legacy,SQLXML I get a message something like 'SQL Server 2005 Version does not support this install option.' How do I get SQL-DMO installed on a SQL Server 2005 Express Client computer?

Having problems installing/setting up SQL Server 2008 Express/R2 for ASP.NET user management on deve

I'm a bit new to installing and configuring, well, just about anything regarding databases, so please bear with me. I'm currently building a couple of ASP.NET MVC 2 sites.  I'm following along with the MVCMusicStore tutorial, and am trying to set up user management using ASP.NET's configuration tool.  The problem is that ASP.NET can't 'see' the database. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my laptop.  It's the version which is available on the Web Platform Installer (I believe it's Express).  When I try running the aspnet_sqlreg.exe program to set up my user management database, it can't tell that I'm running any version of SQL Server at all.  I get an exception about 'named pipes', and some other things I don't understand at the moment. Obviously, this is all a bit over my head.  Is there an idiot proof guide or tutorial available that describes, step-by-step, how to: 1. Install SQL Server 2008 on a development PC 2. How to configure it to be used by Visual Studio 2010 Professional 3. How to properly upload/modify the db on the production server with what's on the development PC Essentially, all the things that the ASP.NET tutorials gloss over.  Any suggestions, links to documentation, or other nudges in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to get this download to install properly. I get no error message at all but it quite clearly is not working properly. This has all ready taken me hours and hours of my time with no success (after following the fixes mentioned on this site). I look forward to suggestions at to how to proceed that may actually work. Many thanks cdbc81

Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express R2 after installing .NET 4.0

Hi experts, I intend to redistribute SQL Server 2008 Express R2 in my installer. I've extracted the setup files from SQLEXPR32_x86.exe and pass in the appropriate command line parameters during the setup. Recently, I noticed if I applied the following Windows Update: .NET 4.0 Client Profile, I will hit into the following error when I installed SQL express. .NET Runtime 4.0 Error Reporting EventType clr20r3, P1 setup100.exe, P2 10.50.1600.1, P3 4bb67524, P4 mscorlib, P5 4.0.0.0, P6 4ba1da6f, P7 44f0, P8 32, P9 system.security.security, P10 NIL. .NET Runtime Application: setup100.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.Security.SecurityException Stack: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.DebugBreak() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.Main() Running the setup.exe from a file server will give these errors but if I copied the entire setup files to a local folder and run setup.exe from there, it runs fine. May I know what am I missing? I definitely need to support to install SQL express running from a file server location. Thanks, MK

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 Express due to MSXML 6 sp2

Got an XP Sp3 box - uninstalled SQL server 2008 Express r2.  Now I'm trying to install SQL server 2005 and am getting the ol' MSXML 6 SP2 error which is keeping SQL Server 2005 from installing.  Last time this happend there was the handy Installer Clean Up Utility but now you go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and it's gone.  So what is the solution now?  Everything I've googled says to use the installer cleaner but it doesn't exist now so what now?

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &

SQL Server 2008 Express impossible to install.

As part of ARCserve backup r15, SQL Server 2008 Express is to be installed on a windows 2003 sp2 server (french language). All the prerequistes are present (power shell, .NET 3.5, Windows Installer 4.5...). The install fails with an -2147024893 error. I have not found anything conclusive about this error on the net. To get down on the issue I tried to install sql 2008 Express SP1 manually first. It fails with no error, returning to the main installation screen after installing the support files. The SQLSetup.log shows no apparent error but stop abruptly with the following : "Attempting to launch process d:\23ab1738a0f035434457b033\x86\setup100.exe"... as if this attempt was "suspended in the air". I have already tried to uninstall/install .NET 3.5 SP1, PowerShell, Windows Installer 4.5. No previous version of SQL had never been existed on this server. I even run "caspol.exe /machine -reset". I have tried the installation with SQL 2008 Express in english... I made registry cleanups... It's been one week of investigation and for the first time in my career I'm "dry". Is my case desperate ? Thanks   ******************* I enclosed the summary.txt when it's ARCServe r15 which is installing. I notice that "requested action" is "RemoveNode". I suppose it's related to any cluster. But we have not any cluster on the

Can you install SharePoint 2010 and User PerformancePoint in a single server enviroment?

Hi I Installed SharePoint 2010 in a single server farm and I configured a Performance Point service aplication. Whenever I run dashboard designer it seems to work but it eventually crashes. I don´t know if I have any configuration errors. I read this Run the Secure Store Service on a separate application server that is not used for any other service. Create the secure store database on a separate application server running SQL Server. Do not use the same SQL Server installation that contains content databases. Here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806889.aspx I believe this service is necesary to run connect to data sources does this mean it all cannot be run in the same server.

Uable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

After repeated attempts, I am unable to install the MSSQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706).  From Live Update, the installation initializes but then reports that it was unable to install.  The first couple of times I received Error Code 0x65B, but that doesn't come up any longer. I have ACT! Database version 2007 (9.0) and it is unable to access the database to open it because it uses the MSSQL??  Also, there used to be an MSSQL icon below in my system tray, but that no longer appears.  When I reboot it will be on briefly, but then goes away.. MS Customer Support has attempted to help (Case ID SRX1135612820) but now tell me that this is beyond their expertise.  They had me try to reload MMSQL 2005 but no change. Please help! Thanks!!  Terry

Purpose of initial "site" in SharePoint Server 2010 Express Install

I’m installing Search Server 2010 Express using “Farm” mode. After the SharePoint Configuration Wizard completes, and selecting  the SharePoint config wizard, one needs to create a website. What is that site intended for? Is it for the Search Center itself? (If so, then I better select the Enterprise – “Basic Search Center" template. If it is intended for a "normal" top level site, then I will create a new Search site in its own web app). TIA, Barkingdog

I am installing 2 instances of SQL Server 2005 Express for 2 different accounting packages on Windows XP SP3.  I have the first installed, after much use of the forums.  The version of setup.exe was 2005.90.2047.0. Can't install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition x64 from Command Line

I can't get R2 Express (x64) installed from the command line... x86 using this same command line works fine, just x64 is broken.

Using this:

The Windows account doman\user does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator
Error result: -2068578304
Result facility code: 1204

domain/user is a domain administrator and also a local administrator and is the currently logged in user.  This failure is happening as part of A Citrix XenApp 6.0 configuration which was started as an Administrator

A Google search for
"The Windows account" "does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator"
Came up with absolutely nothing.

A Google search for -2068578304 failed to find anything, which did not surprise me.

-2068578304 translates into hex as 84B40000.

A Google search for 84B40000

Comes up with a fair few different textual descriptions with the same error code, which I am wading through.

Any help would be welcome.  I am also asking my friends at Citrix.

With thanks in advance.
