We are looking to put sharepoint in a DMZ, along with another website. Both of these will need connections to an SQL server, which would be safer?
We would prefer not to purchase a full copy of SQL but its on the cards if needed.
Currently we have 1 sql 2008 express server running internal, people connect to it using front end access, this data cant be seen by the outside world and needs to stay as secure it is at the moment.
If we put another sql server on the DMZ we would need to sync live data between the internal server to the DMZ and sync data 2-3 times a day from the DMZ to the internal server.
What would be the most secure way to do what we are after? Also the cheapest way, and how secure could we make an SQL server on the internal network with other databases that nobody externally should be able to see connecting to the DMZ
