What will happen with SSMS2005 and BIDS2005 after installing SQL Server 2008 client tools to a works

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

In 2009, after I installed VS 2008, then I installed SQL Server 2005 client tools.  The SQL Server 2005 client-tools setup installed a VS 2005 for my BIDS.  It seemed to me, with VS 2008 installed, installing SQL Server 2008 will install/add BIDS directly into the installed VS 2008.  Am I right?

My questions are  – what will happen with our old SQL 2000/2005 databases and BIDS2005 packages if I install SQL 2008 client tools at the same workstation with the existing SQL 2005 client tools.  (Installing SSMS 2005
disabled SSEM 2000.)

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Installing SQL server 2005 client tools.

I searched on internet and documents, but could not find the steps to install only client utilities for SQL Server 2005. I need something like Query Analyzer and isql to connect to the database.
I selected client tools only after clicking setup.exe, but query analyzer and isql or Microsoft Server Management studio were not installed.
Any help will be useful.

Thanks

Looking for Client Query Analyzer (SQL Server 2008) or Equivalent Reporting Tools

I've recently upgraded from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008.  My accounting and marketing team is skilled and has been using SQL Query Analyzer for years to run smaller queries and build small Crystal Reports.  Unfortunately Query Analyzer is now bundled into the management studio.  That's a bit too much software for this level of power users.

Is there a client-side query analyzer for SQL Server 2008?  I'd rather use a Microsoft product than a 3rd party tool, but I suppose I could do that too.  Looking for something simple that will:

1.  Show users the database tables and/or views

2.  Run queries

Perhaps query analyzer isn't the way to go and my team needs a different reporting system.  If this is the way MS is heading, could you direct me towards a product or service that allows power users to get the information they need?  They will still need to look at raw data to build Crystal Reports though.

SQL Server 2008 Installation fails when installing Management Tools option

After installing SQL Server 2008 successfully I went back to install the Management Tools option.  I get an error after most of it has completed...Interestingly enough it's actually there but given the failure I'm concerned about issues.  Can anyone help?

Here is the Summary File:

Using SQL Server 2008 R2 client with Enterprise Library

All,

I am modifying an existing application that uses SQL Server 2008 as the database and Enterprise Library 4.1 for Data Access .

What I need to do is to make it use the SQL Server 2008 R2 client to take advantage of out of the box failover capabilities.

Any idea how I can accomplish this?

Thanks

Having problems installing/setting up SQL Server 2008 Express/R2 for ASP.NET user management on deve

I'm a bit new to installing and configuring, well, just about anything regarding databases, so please bear with me. I'm currently building a couple of ASP.NET MVC 2 sites.  I'm following along with the MVCMusicStore tutorial, and am trying to set up user management using ASP.NET's configuration tool.  The problem is that ASP.NET can't 'see' the database. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my laptop.  It's the version which is available on the Web Platform Installer (I believe it's Express).  When I try running the aspnet_sqlreg.exe program to set up my user management database, it can't tell that I'm running any version of SQL Server at all.  I get an exception about 'named pipes', and some other things I don't understand at the moment. Obviously, this is all a bit over my head.  Is there an idiot proof guide or tutorial available that describes, step-by-step, how to: 1. Install SQL Server 2008 on a development PC 2. How to configure it to be used by Visual Studio 2010 Professional 3. How to properly upload/modify the db on the production server with what's on the development PC Essentially, all the things that the ASP.NET tutorials gloss over.  Any suggestions, links to documentation, or other nudges in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

BootstrapExtension.ExecuteWorkflowAction error while installing SQL Server 2008 R2

After installing Visual Studio 2010, I found that I could no longer open SQL Management Studio.  I could not even uninstall them because the uninstall was dying.   So I manually removed sql server from my system and now I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express R2 after installing .NET 4.0

Hi experts, I intend to redistribute SQL Server 2008 Express R2 in my installer. I've extracted the setup files from SQLEXPR32_x86.exe and pass in the appropriate command line parameters during the setup. Recently, I noticed if I applied the following Windows Update: .NET 4.0 Client Profile, I will hit into the following error when I installed SQL express. .NET Runtime 4.0 Error Reporting EventType clr20r3, P1 setup100.exe, P2 10.50.1600.1, P3 4bb67524, P4 mscorlib, P5 4.0.0.0, P6 4ba1da6f, P7 44f0, P8 32, P9 system.security.security, P10 NIL. .NET Runtime Application: setup100.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.Security.SecurityException Stack: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.DebugBreak() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup.Main() Running the setup.exe from a file server will give these errors but if I copied the entire setup files to a local folder and run setup.exe from there, it runs fine. May I know what am I missing? I definitely need to support to install SQL express running from a file server location. Thanks, MK

Error installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 machine

HI all, I'm installing the Developer edition of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (downloaded today) on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit virtual machine (using VMWare Workstation 6.5).  Yesterday I had tried MS SQL Server 2008 R0 with the same results.  Both give an error about 30% into the installation process: "An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'VSLangProj80,Version="8.0.0.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="8.0.50727.1826"' When I click the OK button, the install rolls that last bit back and then continues.  Unfortunatly I didn't take a screenshot of the main install window, just the error window. Any ideas what this error means?  The install yesterday seemed to work, but I'm not through the R2 install yet.  The R0 install also failed to install the documentation for some reason (I left it running during the night) Note that I have VS2010 (original release plus downloaded updates) installed and then just some small stuff like Snagit and Skype on this VM.  I updated Windows 7 completely before I started installing R2 so it is completely up to date as of midnight!
