Problems with a Backup Database command

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

I am getting the access denied error when I run the the following command backup database command.  I did set the file folder with full control access for the MSSQL Service account.  I can log in as that account and write to that directory.  This error happens when I run it programmatically in PowerShell or directly from the SQL Server Mgt query window.  How can I resolve this?

SQL2008 - Cannot Restore a new database from a full backup of a different one, database in use

I am trying to restore a brand new database from a copy of another one and am encountering an error message stating: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The file <Backup source database file location> cannot be overwritten.  It is being used by database <Backup Source Database>. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) I am running the Restore procedure with the REPLACE option and am wondering why it is stating that the source database is the database in use when I am trying to restore and overwrite a completely different database. This issue happens when running the replace both in C# using SMO and when manually restoring with SqlServer Management Studio Interesting note is, the original source database is created / deployed using a database project within VisualStudios 2010 and then deployed to SqlServer through VisualStudios. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks in advance for any help!

problems with using SQLEXPRESS database on a server

I made an application that reads a KML file every few minutes and puts the data in a SQLEXPRESS database. It works perfectly on my laptop, but when I move everything to the server where it has to run, the application doesn't find the database anymore. I tried lots of connectionstrings already, but none works. I have to admit that my knowledge of connectionstrings is not that big, so I think the answer will be very simple. In my program I point to the app.config file who looks like this atm (remember, I changed the connectionstring a couple of times already, and I have no idea anymore where I started): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <connectionStrings> <add name="ships" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\Inetpub\ftproot\eu006202\www.ortelius.icso.be\AIS\ships.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> </configuration> I pasted the error I get on http://www.webbouwers.be/error.png Any idea what I need to do to get it work? Thank you in advance, L.

DataAdaptor/Dataset problems when no row present in database tables

Hi All, I'm trying to use a DataSet to maintain some rows for a table, and when I've finished my changes, send all changes to the database using a SqlDataAdapter.    I find if there are no rows in the table in the database then I am getting a 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' when I try to access the table in the Dataset. Is there a way to work with a Dataset like this ie. I start off with an empty table and I wish to add rows, to access the structure of the table rows, build rows, then add them and do the update on the SQLDataAdapter. Thanks, Sinead Here is my code: protected SqlDataAdapter memberDA = new SqlDataAdapter(); protected DataSet memberDS { get { if (ViewState["memberDS"] != null) return (DataSet)ViewState["memberDS"]; else return new DataSet(); } set { ViewState["memberDS"] = value; } } protected SqlDataAdapter getDataAdapterForMembers() { SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(); conn.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SiteDBConn"].ConnectionString; memberDA = new SqlDataAdapter("usp_GetMembers", conn); memberDA.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Stored

Problems with SSRS 2008 Install when configuring a back-end database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 environ

We are tyring to configure SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) not the R2 version with a SQL Server 2008 R2 version of database. We are facing error when the configuration manager within SSRS tries to execute its scripts against the database. Do you think that SSRS 2008 may have trouble using a SQL Server 2008 R2 version as the back-end? Also, what kind of permissions does the ID installing SSRS needs to have on the SQL Server database ?  Not much is available in the documenation or online.

Full database backup takes so long

Today several full database backups took so long. Normally it took 2 hours to backup. But today the 5 backups didn't finish by the end of the work day. The backups went well until yesterday. I don't know what happened overnight. Is there a performance tool embedded in SQL Server? How can I find out why the backups take so long? What could be the possible reasons? Thank you,

Full Farm Backup Fails on Windows Sharepoint Services Search Database

I am just now starting to us central administration to backup the entire sharepoint farm.  All content backups fine except for the Search Database.  In looking through the backup log, it appears that the search database may not exist.  How can I determine if the search database actually does exist and if it does not can it be recreated?

MSSQL 2008 R2 - database in restoring mode after backup - forever..

Hi folks,   i have this problem that occourred today with one instance of MSSQL 2008 R2 running on a WIN x64 R2 enterprise server.   i have run a backup maintainance job and now i have two databases in restoring mode for over 4hrs.   my questions are: why are these databases restoring when i was backing up? and why are they not being logged anywhere - i can not find anything on logs, activty monitor, or even Windows Resource Monitor.   i can not see any work been done by MSSQL to restore these databases, and yet they are set as 'RESTORING'.   any suggestion from the community here will be much appreciated as i am banging my head against the wall already.   thanks,   Nicolas    data warehouse | data migration | ETL/ELT | UK | http://www.brainpowered.net

need information on database backup

Hi, As a developer Ihave very minimal knowledge on database backups. Before reaching out to DBA I want to understand few things 1) I need to place a request to create new database on a SQL Server. There is around 540 GB space on this server but the two existing databases on this server already used 500GB space. So what option do we have to create new database? Is it a simple task to add another drive and allocate some space or use mapped drive? what options can I suggest DBA? 2) Also DBA mentioned that there is no space to take backup on this drive for the existsing database. What option can I suggest for backup incase if we plan to drop one of the database which is not actively used?
