SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services - Performance of Excel Pivot Tables

Hi, I've several cubes available for several users within my organization. I've the SQL Server 2005 and the Analysis Services running on the same machine but it has 30Gb of RAM, 8 processors and a quick enouth disk. The problems is that i've some automatic processes that "build" some excel reports and the users use pivot tables with olap connections to the cubes regularly. I've noticed that the excel "locks" when the user is drilling down the data and the server has only one processor (there are 8...) at 100%... Is there a way to make the analysis services use the maximum processing capacity that is available? The users are complaining about the slowness of the cubes... Thanks in advance Hugo

OLAP: Build an OLAP Reporting App in ASP.NET Using SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services and Office XP

Many organizations analyze their business-critical data using Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology. OLAP-based data mining provides a way to query multidimensional data sets and drill down into the data to find patterns. ASP.NET and the Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC) enable Web-based OLAP reporting. The OWC controls include PivotTable and Chart components that can be embedded in a Web page and scripted by programmers. In this article, the authors build a Web-based OLAP reporting app using ASP.NET, OWC, and SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services to illustrate the process.

ATL Server and Visual Studio .NET: Developing High-Performance Web Applications Gets Easier

When developing high-performance applications for the Web, developers often must choose between performance and ease of development. With ATL Server, new with Visual Studio .NET, developers get the best of both worlds. ATL Server uses a tag replacement engine written in C++, provides a simple programming model, and promotes enhanced performance and easy debugging. This article presents an overview of the ATL Server architecture, then creates a basic ATL Server project. It then goes on to explain processing SRF files, HTTP streams, forms, cookies, and header files. Managing session state is also discussed, along with file uploads and performance monitoring.

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server Configuration Manager - Protocol Name is blank

When I run SQL Server Configuration Manager (2008) and click on SQL Server Network Configuration and then Protocols for SQL, the right side of the screen shows the protocol icons and their status, but the names (TCP/IP, Shared Memory, Named Pipes, etc) are not there. Can someone tell me how to get the names to display again? They used to show up. A thought is that I installed XP SP3 and that made them go away, but I can't prove that.

MDX query using linked server - performance question

Hi, I'm having a strange performance behavior. When I’m running a mdx query on management studio, it runs for 10 minutes (its mainly calc members on a large cube) When I run the same query via linked server and openquery, it runs for 20 minutes. Is the SQL from some reason does a parsing or running the query twice? The server is sql2008 UP1 on 64bit. and the "allow in process" is checked. its the default in sql2008 Thanks in advance, Yoav

Can the default member for the sql server analysis filter web part be a mdx expression or not

I have designed a dashboard , some parametrized reports ( on date and time) in my case with a cube as datasource, added an analysis services 2005 filter, connected it to the reports. The issue concerns the default value for the filter . I f I choose [Date Local].[Calendar Hierarchy].[All] it works well. But the business requirement is to use the last day where there have been registered a measurement which in my case looks like the following mdx expression: Tail( Filter ([Date Local].[Date Key].[Date Key].Members , ( ( [Advisor Organisation].[Advisor organisation].[Contact Center].&[Denmark]&[Kundelinjen], [Measures].[Calls Offered] , [Date Local].[DK Holiday].&[False] , [Date Local].[Week Day].&[True] ) > 0 ) ), 1).Item(0).Item(0) The expression is all right as I use it in my report as an mdx filter expression. But when I use apply it I get an invalid dafault member value. So the question is : Does the filter support an mdx expression ? If yes, is there another syntax or change in order to make it work ? Thank you a lot for your answer.
