Restrict SSAS dimension hierarchy to show based on role

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am having an issue that involves SSAS and Sharepoint.  I don't think I can fix the issue in Sharepoint, I think it has to be in my ssas cube.  THe issue is that in sharepoint I have a ssas filter webpart that displays the geography hierarchy based on the role that is defined in SSAS.  So if I have a user that only has permissions to Switzerland than they will see the geography hierarchy as (Region, Sub Region, Area, Country)

All Sales Region

         Eastern Europe

What I want to know is in SSAS can I restrict the hierarchy to only show country if the user belongs to a certain role.  So what I want to basically say is if the user belongs to SSAS_CH then the hierarchy should just show Switzerland, not All Sales Region > Europe, etc....

Can this be done?

Getting filtered data from Role based SSAS security

Hi everyone,I've got a heap of reports that are based on various SSAS cubes. I have roles defined on these cubes that restrict data via certain dimensions. Question is, will these restrictions filter through to the report...ie, if I have a sales person restricted in the SSAS cube to only see sales against their territory (restricted in the Territory dimension), when they run the report will it filter the result based on their SSAS credentials and only show the data they have access to (even though the SSRS report has no direct filters or parameters applied)?Cheers for any help!!

SSRS Report based on SSAS Cubes doesn't show NULL values correctly

I have a SSRS report which is based on an SSAS Cube. In the Cube the formating of numeric fields that NULL values are properly shown as NULL values. In the Cube Browser and Excel this is shown correctly. However when I design the report already the query against SSAS shows these fields as "0" instead of NULL. Is there a way to fix this or is this a bug ?

SSAS - How to get other members from dimension that has Parent Child hierarchy?

I have a Sales Territory dimension that has employee and parent employee attribute on which parent child hierarchy is defined and it gives below hierarchy while browsing - - Mark Rolls --- Lumin Jacs ----- Larry Gomes ------- Messica Owens ------- Tom Ted ----------- Jackson Lopez ----- Matthew Ron --- Fred jacob - Jason Ron --- Jecy Pedro   But beside this parent-child hierarchy I have other attributes like employee address, email and telephone. My facts related sales transaction is tagged to lowest level. For example here facts are available only for Jackson Lopez (being Field Executive). When use below query I get complete sales reporting hierarchy result with some measures like sales amount, sales volume. But while accesing other attributes like address or email, it's repeating address/email/telephone of jackson Lopes everywhere to whom fact record is linked, Actually I want address/email/telephone of each sales employee from that dimension within hierarchy. How do I get it? The query I used is: Here Parent Terr ID is parent child hierachy. SELECT ( Descendants( { [Dim SalesRegion].[Parent Terr ID].[Employee Level 01].&[538018] /* here Mark Rolls is 538018 */ }, 0,AFTER), NONEMPTY([Dim SalesRegion].[Emp Address].[Emp Address].Members), NONEMPTY([Dim SalesRegion].[Emp Email].[Emp Email].Members) ) ON ROWS , { ([Dim Date].[The Year].[The Year].[CY-2010], [Dim

How can we show certain no of dimension only for two different users having different role in a sing

well i might be having a security problem so i just want to know that can we show certain dimension to one user say  (i.e 10dimension for A user and 15 dimension for B user having different user role in a single cube.)

Please any one help me out soon and give some ideas...so that i can solve my issue ,can we solve this issue naa.. :( ..!!!

Problem making Role based Menu in MVC application

I want to make Rolebase menu in MVC such that if user doesnot have permission for some action then that Action name shouldnot be shown in the Menu.

I have used the code in the url(http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx) in my MVC application. My application is a Discussion Forum(in MVC) same functionality as in this forum forums.asp.net

I have used Controllers for post, thread etc.In each controller there are some actions that are using [Authorize(Roles)] attribute

but this coding does not count  those Actions in Controllers having Authorize attribute according to the url http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx

In the code, Authorize attribute is applied to Controller class, but my requirement is of Applying Authorize attribute to some actions in controller so that some are available for all users and  some links are available rolewise. Now what is the solution for that?

Use Test-Driven Development with mock objects to design object oriented code in terms of roles and responsibilities, not categorization of objects into class hierarchies.

Authorize It: Use Role-Based Security in Your Middle Tier .NET Apps with Authorization Manager

Authorization Manager in Windows Server 2003 represents a significant improvement in the administration of role-based security, making it more scalable, flexible, and easier to implement. Using Authorization Manager, you can define roles and the tasks those roles can perform. You can nest roles to inherit characteristics from other roles, and you can define application groups. In addition, Authorization Manager lets you use scripts to modify permissions dynamically, and it allows you to wrap your security logic in a security policy that can be stored in Active Directory. Authorization Manager also includes an easy-to-use API for running access checks. The author discusses all of these topics and demonstrates them with a working sample.

Security: Unify the Role-Based Security Models for Enterprise and Application Domains with .NET

Role-based security allows administrators to assign access permissions to users based on the roles they play rather than on their individual identities. These privileges can be used to control access to objects and methods, and are easier to identify and maintain than user-based security. The .NET Framework provides two role-based security models, which are exposed as two namespaces: System.Enterprise-Services and System.Security.Permissions. Presented here is a comparison of the two options and a discussion of when each is the right choice. The author also demonstrates the process involved in setting up access security and discusses role memberships.

require guideline for 'Role-based authentication/authorization'

In my asp.net website in VS-2005 with SQL-Server 2005 as db, I need to implement role-based Authentication/Authorization.

I am familiar to the practises used in role-based authentication..as I have previously worked on projects that used this method. However, my project lead used to design the database. Now I have an existing website where authentication has been set to anonymous by setting 'allow users="?"' in the authentication tags in web.config.

If I use the createUserWizard control and use the Membership.creatUser(.....) method in code behind will the asp.net security tables, like users, roles, userinrole etc get created on its own? Can anyone please give the proper steps on how to acheive this?

Create a dimension based on 2 fields

Hello I have a table as follow: No   Placestart    Placeend 1      DK                USA 2      UK                USA 3      USA              DK Now, I want a dimension called Country, which selects either of the rows where a value exist In SQL it would be ex (SELECT * FROM table WHERE placestart = 'USA' OR placeend = 'USA) So, when I select USA in the dimension all 3 rows are listed, as USA is included either in placestart or placeend. If I select DK row 1 and 3 is selected etc... Is this somehow possible?

SSAS 2008 Dimension root values changes after incrementally loading the dimension with 'process_up

The Dimension root  members (below 'ALL') changes after incrementally loading the dimension with 'process_update'.  How do I prevent that from happening ? There was no changes to data of the underlying table of the dimension.

SSAS 2008 attritube hierarchy doesn't group records and repeat rows

We are having problems with the dimension attributes in lower level hierarchies not grouping under 1 single level. Here is the hierarchy: VP    College      Department         Departmental Course            Course Level               Course Number The top 3 levels are grouping correctly without duplicate rows and they don't have compoud keys. The lowest 3 levels are not grouped correctly and they have compounds keys because the attributes are not unique by themself. The result of the hierarchy looks like this: VP Academic Affairs    Business School of Management        International Business School            Mgm101                 Lower                       Course Number 123            Mgm101                Upper

SSAS C# Amomd Dimension Data

Hi, i have the following problem. I'm able to connect to the cube, get the Meassure Names, Dimension Names and Dimension Attribute Names. But how can i get the Dimension Attribute Data (MEMBERS) in a List or Array. I mean how can i acces the data of an Dimension Attribute like in MDX: Dimension -> Attribute -> Attribute Data [Dim Customer].[First Name].&[Frank] I would be great to get/recive all Data an put them in a Table(List/Array/DataTable/...). Thx for your time and your help

filtering a role playing dimension

I have a role playing dimension and need to run a query that will select the intersection of members that are common on a single attribute...    So Dim1 and Dim2, they both have the attribute [Name] (though the fact table has two different foreing keys mapping to the single primary key on the dimension table) I need to select the members where both foreign keys on the fact table map to the same member in the dimension table so for example,  Dim1.Name = 'John Smith' and Dim2.Name = 'John Smith' Any ideas? Different attribute name in each dimension for a role playing dimension

Is it possible to name the attribute differently in a role playing dimension. For example I use the Date dimension as the role playing dimension for Ship Date and Order Date. When I use these attributes on the report, both of them show as 'Date' which is the name of the attribute in the Date dimension. Is there any work around to implement these names differently?
