Multi server job

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

I am new to SSIS. I created a package that grabs some data from SQL Box(SQL Box1(SQL Server 2008)) and puts it in another SQL Database(SQL BOX2 (SQL 2000)). If I run the package from BIDS, it runs fine.

I can not schedule the job on either of the servers. So I am trying to Schedule the Job on a 3rd SQL Server 2008 box.

I am getting an error saying "You must specify the Target Servers on which this multi server job will execute". Where Should I specify the target servers?

Questions on Multi-Tenant Data Architecture for SQL Server Database and ASP.NET application

My company wants me to make the same asp.net application and sql server database be sharable amongst different clients. Clients will use the database for their own business use, will have their own data, we will have our own data. How can I share the same SQL Server database amongst different clients having same ASP.NET application (but somehow be able to differentiate which client user is logging in) ? Do I need to use ApplicationID and how will I detect at login which one to use ? I know I will need to add another field in all tables to differentiate client's data from ours.

sql server 2008 cluster multi instance

we have a cluster with 2 nodes and we are thinking to add another instance so that node 1 takes care of instance 1 and node 2 takes care of instance 2, and at anytime they are watching each other's back. How is this done???? what is the procedure? thanks.

Does the "F5 experience" work with a multi-server 2010 farm?

I have a multi-server SharePoint 2010 farm I'm attempting to develop against.  I have Visual Studio 2010 installed on one of the servers.  When I create a default Visual Web Part project and hit F5, I get an error such as the following:   "Error 1 Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Feature with Id '06789185-b4a0-41d8-a535-1d8602a05b97' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope."   After a bit of searching, I came across a thread that suggested multi-server farms were not supported by Visual Studio 2010 in regards to the F5 experience of being able to deploy, activate, and debug a feature.  Can anyone shed light on this for me?Chris Stewart

Custom Timer Job not working on multi-server farm

I created a timer job based on Andrew Connell's tutorial. I ran this timer job on my development server, and it works perfectly. When I deployed it to our testing server, which is a multi-server farm with one wfe, it doesn't seem to work.

Here is what I have tried so far to get the timer job to work on our test server, based on other posts in this forum, and other tutorials I read on the web.

  • I made sure to stop and restart the timer job every time I change the solution
  • I have logged-in with the farm account on my test server to deploy and activate the feature
  • I have checked the timer job status in Central Admin, it says the timer job ran on the wfe with a status of Succeeded, and a progress of 100%
  • I have checked the SharePoint logs, I see "Start invoke timer job" with my timer job name, and usually the next line or two reads "End invoke timer job"
  • In the execute method, I am now telling it to write to the Sharepoint Logs that it has started, but this line never appears in the logs

I assume that since this is the first time writing a timer job, I am obviously missing something that my solution needs to run on a multi-server farm. I even played with the SPJobLockType, but no luck, it is currently set to ContentDatabase. Do I need to add code that tells my timer jo

How to Install MSDTC on a multi Instance SQL Server Fail OverCluster (SQL 2005 & Windows 2003 R2 x64

I am installing 2 SQL instances on a fail over cluster.

Currently I have my Quorum and DTC resources on the default Group and the 2 sql instances on 2 other groups.

In this way would the DTC resource  be available for both the SQL groups or is there any other way i should go about doing this ?

Project Server 2010 in a multi-tenanted environment

Can Project Server 2010 be setup in a multi-tenanted SharePoint 2010 environment? Basically, does Project Server 2010 support multi-tenancy?

If so does anyone have any good documentation on how to set this up? I've tried searching but just couldn't find anything specific on this.

Architecture help for server/multi-client two-way messaging and MVVM scenario

There looks like heaps of information on WCF which is kind of my problem. I'm unsure of what I should be reading and can't afford to spend days reading to whittle down my options to what I really need. So I'm hoping for a brief nudge in the right direction please!

I'm building an app that is TCP server/client scenario:

  • Messages need to be sent from either client or server based on events raised at either end
  • Messages could be from client-server or client-client
  • I need some peer-to-peer content distribution (file sharing/copying)
  • Some messages need to go through reply/response - being initiated at either end
  • Some messages/requests need to last past network interrupts/reboots. I.e. request from client that requires manual user action on the server end, resulting in reply back to client at a later date

Some comments on what WCF architecture/technology choices would best fit these needs would be very welcome :)

Also, I'm using MVVM architecture. Should the viewmodel/business logic know about WCF classes or should the model take care of contracts, etc? Or in other words, where should the viewmodel and model separate in WCF? Some examples of appropriate method names at the business logic level and model level would help :)

Anyway, thanks for reading, now back to the books :)

Login problem with multi website on a server.

I write 2 websites and deloy on a server, they're difference folder. A problem when I login on a website, then open 2nd site I see login cookie still keep in 2nd site. My system: Window server 2003, .Net 2.0, IIS.

Login code:

FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(dataUserName.Text, true);
Response.Redirect("~/Admin/default.aspx");

Webconfig:

<authentication mode="Forms" >
<forms loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" timeout="2880"/>
</authentication>

Correlation key issues in a multi-server environment

I have a long running workflow installed on a two server farm with a sql persistance store on a third server. Each receive statement is within a TransactedReceiveScope and appears to work correctly. If the workflow initially runs on server1, it will work properly on server1 but not server2 and visa versa.

The correlation data I'm passing to the workflow receive statement is definitely correct on both servers. The event log error message is as follows:

The execution of an InstancePersistenceCommand was interrupted because the instance key 'ce0773ae-f73b-1202-0a22-d604d5c087f6' was not associated to an instance. This can occur because the instance or key has been cleaned up, or because the key is invalid. The key may be invalid if the message it was generated from was sent at the wrong time or contained incorrect correlation data

I ran a sql trace and discovered that the "instance key" is parameter @keyToLoadBy in stored procedure [System.Activities.DurableInstancing].[LoadInstance]. I assume this value is calculated from the correlation data, however the value differs on the two servers even when the same correlation data is provided.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what's wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Simon

Multi Flatfile to SQL Server table

setup multi-server server farm

Currently the company has three locations, US, UK and Japan. We need to setup a SharePoint 2010 Server farm. Hope someone can give me some suggestions,

1. Should we install SPS server farm in one location or should we install it cross three locations?
For example, install all WFE servers and all APP servers and clustered databases in US location only. And all users from US, UK, and Japan access this server farm in US. How about the performance of those users outside of US?
2. Should we install SPS server farm across multiple locations? (US, UK, and Japan)
3. How the language pack will be installed?

Thanks in advance,

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Making Ajax Callbacks to the Server Using jQuery with ASP.NET

In the first part of this article series I introduced jQuery's functionality and how it provides a rich client side programming model. This time around I'll expand on these concepts and show you how you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET using it as an AJAX backend to retrieve data. I'll also discuss how you can create ASP.NET controls and otherwise interact with jQuery content from ASP.NET pages in WebForms.

jQuery is just a JavaScript library so it will work seamlessly with ASP.NET both from page code as well as through backend driven code using the Page.ClientScript object or ScriptManager. You can use jQuery on its own as a client side and Ajax library that communicates with ASP.NET or you can use jQuery in combination with ASP.NET AJAX. The two actually complement each other quite well as jQuery provides functionality that the ASP.NET AJAX library does not and vice versa. For the most part the interaction between the two libraries is trouble free except for a few very rare edge cases.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.
