Does anyone have an IIS-hosted WCF Routing Service sample for workflow versioning?

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

It seems, from what I've read today, that the main way to deal with versioning of persisted .xamlx wcf workflow services is to use the wcf routing service for content based routing, passing a version parameter to and from the xamlx operations, with the router sending the requests to the appropriate version of the service.

I've been trying to find a sample of this but I can't.  Does anyone have a sample where the routing service is hosted in IIS and which contains a client plus the new and old service versions, so that I can see how it's all supposed to bolt together?  I've been smacking my head into this one all day, to no avail.

How to debug Windows Workflow when it is hosted by WCF Service ?

I have build a test solution in two parts :

1) WCF service which hosts a Windows Workflow (statemachine).

2) Console application which consumes the WCF Service.

It works well, but if I do a bad process, it crashes which is normal. Exemple : the client calls an event which is impossible to execute given the current state according to the workflow design. In this case, the client receives a WCF exception. This exception is masked, which is normal (an option has to be set in WCF side to enable exception transmission).

The problem is that, althought I launched the console application with the debugger, with the WCF service project, the debugger doesn't break on Workflow errors in WCF error side. (However, I saw that non-Workflow errors in WCF side are still stopped by the debugger)

How could I force the VS debugger to break on Workflow WCF errors ?

MSMQ Recieve Activty fails in workflow hosted in Windows Service

I am trying to implement a windows service hosted workflow service that polls from a message queue. The message queue is is populated by a separate windows service.

I followed the post below for my hosted workflow as it looked to be close to what I was trying to do.

Following the steps in the post I was able to get my service to work when the message body was a simple string and using the WCFTestClient.

I then changed the code to use a a custom .NET object as the Recieve parameter instead of the string. The class library in which the object is defined was added as a reference. The service that populates my queue uses the custom .NET object as the message body.

In this scenario, the service would run but only process a message from the queue if it was in the queue before the service started. Any new messages added are ignored and if I add the message after I start the queue it also does not get picked up.

My xamlx is below, followed by my app.config:

xamlx workflow service initialization hosted in IIS on net.msmq endpoint

Hi everyone,

I implemented xamlx workflow service. I need to implement code that will be called before the service is invoked. I host workflow service in IIS on net.msmq endpoint. I saw that global.asax does not help me. I searched internet and found that I could use public static void AppInitialize(); method in App_Code folder class but that does not work.

Can you give me some suggestion or send code sample that can be used for initialization of application in iis that hosts xamlx workflow services on netMsmq binding?

looking out Versioning WF4 services using custom filters in Routing service

Happen to see Matt Snider's post on a thread at http:/ /social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wfprerelease/thread/0fa38041-f85b-4882-b350-77eaf6998c4a
In this he has given a list of possible solutions for implementing workflow service versioning. The last solution that he explains is . . .

Utilizing constructed correlation data in order to distinguish between v1 and v2 conversations (a client should be tied to a given version for the length of a conversation).

This is the same solution that I wanted to implement in my system, But I have no idea on how to implement it.

Please assist me to implement the same.

Due to the distributed nature of a business process it makes sense for a workflow to be deployed as a distributed application. See how Windows Workflow and Web Services hold the key.

Looking for a simple Service and Console Client REST sample implementing BASIC authentication

Does anyone know of a C# code sample demonstrating WCF REST services and console test client with OperationContracts (GET and POST) implementing mutiple paramaters using BASIC authentication? Also, perhaps, using Fiddler as a test client as well? I have searched high and low for something like this, but have not had any success.

Cannot get service reference for Net.tcp service hosted in IIS7

HiI've got a service that I want to host in IIS7. The service runs over net.tcp (currently without security), but I am unable to create a service reference to it, or call it, using the net.tcp protocol. My event log is populated with lots of errors related to ASP.NET and System.ServiceModel, relevant services are installed and running (net.tcp port sharing service and net.tcp listener adapter).O/S : Window7 RTMDevStudio: 2008I publish the webservice to IIS7 and I get a valid page when navigating to the published .svc file (which tells me to use svtutil.exe and point it at the net.tcp endpoint). For that, I get this error :    The message could not be dispatched because the service at the endpoint address 'net.tcp://gedm-desktop.profiledc01.appdevelop.local/ManageAVMEP/ManageAVMAgent.svc/mex' is unavailable for the protocol of the address.Googling the problem leads me down several blind alleys :(I cannot determine what is causing the net.tcp listener to keep stopping? Everything is fine if I use the wsHttpBinding.Any tips or pointers to a course of action would be appreciated.ThanksGed My event log is full of errors (here is a sample) :-------An error occurred while trying to listen for the URL '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/ManageAVMEP'. Question about WCF Service hosted in Windows Service

Hi, I have little experience with WCF and working on a projet that requires WCF Service instance to run 24x7. After searching for a solution and reading about WCF, I think if I host it under Windows Service I can have a single instance of WCF Service running 24x7. Is this correct? I just successfully ran the MSDN sample project that hosts CalculatorService in Windows Service. I realized that Windows Service cannot communicate with WCF Service it is hosting (I do not have any experience with writing Windows Service). I wrote a test function (public) in Windows Service and tried to call it from WCF Service but it did not appear in the Intellisense list. Is my assumption correct or is there a way to establish communication between Windows Service and its hosted WCF Service? Thanks. kr

WCF Workflow Service Application - Required Extensions

Hello, I built a WCF Workflow Service App and I built a custom activity that requires an extension in the workflow. In a web app, I'm trying to create a service reference to the WCF workflow service but it says that an extension that is required has not been provided; so how do I consume a service with a required extension? At what point do I supply that extension in an ASP.NET scenario? Thanks. http://linkedin.com/in/brianmains

Workflow Service failing on high load

Hi, I am load testing my workflow service to ensure that it can sustain high loads for a high volume transaction application. I am using Visual Studio's Load Test to run on a simple unit test to call the workflow service. I have configured the bindings on my service as follows:  <bindings>      <netTcpBinding>        <binding portSharingEnabled="true" closeTimeout="00:10:00"                 openTimeout="00:10:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:10:00"                 maxBufferPoolSize="20480000" maxBufferSize="20480000" maxConnections="10"                  maxReceivedMessageSize="20480000"  >                    <security mode="None" />        </binding>      </netTcpBinding>  &n

WCF Workflow Service Hosting

Is there any way I can host a WCF Workflow Service Application in a Windows service instead of IIS?

WCF Routing Service BindingConfiguration does not applied

Hi i am having issues working with the routing service All works fine Until one of the functions of the web service returned big amounts of data from the server, The status: I am having: 1. Silverlight application (client) 2. UI server (Contains the routing service) 3. Application Server (Contains the WCF Service which getting data from the database) The silverlight application is currently hosted both on the UI server and Application server. The services of the application server configured with the following: <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BigServicesBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" receiveTimeout="00:02:00" > <readerQuotas maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="2147483647" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647" maxDepth="2147483647" </binding> </basicHttpBinding> I have also set the routing service bindingConfiguration to this binding configuration. When running the silverlight application against the Application server - it works well When running the silverlight application against the UI Server when returnning big amount of data i am getting exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: The remote server returned an

Workflow Service not calling workflow in another project

I have a windows workflow service 4.0 that calls a workflow located in another project (i.e. another assembly). I have created a project reference in my workflow service project to the workflow in the other assembly. I have set a breakpoint in the workflow service receive activity and this breakpoint is hit. Next I step into the next activity which is an activity located in another project and the debugger does not work. Also the other workflow is sending an email.  It appears that the other workflow is not being called because I never receive an email from the workflow in the other project.   Any help is greatly appreciated.

Duplex communication and calling clients from outside the hosted service

Hey,   I am currently building an interface between two applications: One that hosts a WCF service and receives external input (e.g. from a sensory system) and another which subscribes to updates sent by the first.   It is quite easy to call back to the client if I create a ServiceHost and provide it with an instance of my service (using ServiceHost.SingletonInstance). However, if I use a PerSession instance mode, how is it possible to call the clients when I receive an updated from the external sensory system?   Thank you for your time!   Cheers, Till

Hosted Designer fails to load workflow xaml that has InArguments with default values (xaml saved by

I have hosted the designer in our app. Using the hosted designer, workflows are saved as xaml to a database. When an end user wishes to edit a workflow the xaml is downloaded to a file and loaded into the designer via the .xaml file. The user can also associate assemblies with the workflow and there is a mechanism which makes sure that these assemblies are loaded into the appdomain and available. The problem we are hitting occurs when the top level activity (Sequence) has InArgument with default value. I create a simple Sequence, add InArguments (type of Int32 and String)  and set some default values. I save the workflow xaml to the database and close down the designer. When I wish to edit the workflow and try to load I get the following errors Could not find member '{clr-namespace:}_e905.argument3'. Could not find member '{clr-namespace:}_e905.argument1'. suggesting that some assembly/namespace missing. Here is the xaml I try to load: <Activity mc:Ignorable="sap" x:Class="{x:Null}" this:_e905.argument3="99" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/netfx/2009/xaml/activities" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:mva="clr-namespace:Microsoft.VisualBasic.Activities;assembly=System.Activities" xmlns:s="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorl

creating a sample web service response

I am trying to simulate a sample web service payload similar to that which i will receive one the webservice is live. Can anyone help me simulate this?Criteria for my response will be:a bool pass or failstring - messageand the object (in this case in the form of a list)heres the class I am to populate with sample data: public class WebServiceCollectionResponse { private List<Object> _returnObjects; public bool Success { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } public List<Object> ReturnObjects { get { if (_returnObjects != null) return _returnObjects; else return new List<object>(); } set { _returnObjects = value; } } } How can I use this class to put sample data in it? Lets say I want to put customers in the list 'ReturnObjects'?Thanks for your time.
