Invoking a web service without reference or proxy

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I want to invoke a web service using WCF. But I don't want to use svcutil to generate client proxy or I don't want to add service reference either. All I have is endpoint address, binding to use,  security policy and SOAP message to send.

Is it possible to invoke this service using .NET?

Add Service Reference changing list to arrays in proxy class

I'm trying to consume an asmx service in a console app. When I add the service reference to my project i'm noticing that in the proxy class the lists are replaced with arrays. Also, the default constructors are missing. This is causing problems when i'm attempting to build the request object using the proxy classes. I've generated some classes using xsdobjectgen which i'm using as parameters to my web method. I've tried changing the Collection type in the settings but its still not working. Any ideas on whats going wrong?

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class

Cannot get service reference for Net.tcp service hosted in IIS7

HiI've got a service that I want to host in IIS7. The service runs over net.tcp (currently without security), but I am unable to create a service reference to it, or call it, using the net.tcp protocol. My event log is populated with lots of errors related to ASP.NET and System.ServiceModel, 3.0.0.0The relevant services are installed and running (net.tcp port sharing service and net.tcp listener adapter).O/S : Window7 RTMDevStudio: 2008I publish the webservice to IIS7 and I get a valid page when navigating to the published .svc file (which tells me to use svtutil.exe and point it at the net.tcp endpoint). For that, I get this error :    The message could not be dispatched because the service at the endpoint address 'net.tcp://gedm-desktop.profiledc01.appdevelop.local/ManageAVMEP/ManageAVMAgent.svc/mex' is unavailable for the protocol of the address.Googling the problem leads me down several blind alleys :(I cannot determine what is causing the net.tcp listener to keep stopping? Everything is fine if I use the wsHttpBinding.Any tips or pointers to a course of action would be appreciated.ThanksGed My event log is full of errors (here is a sample) :-------An error occurred while trying to listen for the URL '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/ManageAVMEP'. Error while invoking wcf service and running its methods

Failed to invoke the service. Possible causes: The service is offline or inaccessible; the client-side configuration does not match the proxy; the existing proxy is invalid. Refer to the stack trace for more detail. You can try to recover by starting a new proxy, restoring to default configuration, or refreshing the service.    I am using a wcf service with some methods in it called by some layers wherein i am putting all my business logic. While invoking the service from wcftestclient  and when running few methods i am getting this error . I am getting output for some methods in the same service but for some other methods i am getting this error . I am using LINQ in the methods.    My solution has number of projects .For running the service ,i am right clicking on the project and viewing in the browser as i cannot build whole solution as i have few errors in some unit test projects.       As i am getting output for some methods ,this is definetly not about starting the service .

Invoking custom WCF service throws an Impersonation error from SQL

I've written a custom WCF service and hosted it in SharePoint. Accessing the MEX endpoint works fine. However, when I try to invoke the WCF service from my client code, I get the following error: 'A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - Either a required impersonation level was not provided, or the provided impersonation level is invalid.)'. This exception gets thrown even before my WCF service gets invoked. Attaching a debugger, I see the following stack trace associated with the exception: 00000000`0c2dd7d0 000007fe`e7589b95 System_Data_ni!System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException, Boolean)+0xd4 00000000`0c2dd810 000007fe`e7b7cd3b System_Data_ni!System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject)+0xf5 00000000`0c2dd870 000007fe`e758c4ee System_Data_ni!System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.WriteSni()+0x5f77ab 00000000`0c2dd8f0 000007fe`e758bf29 System_Data_ni!System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ExecuteFlush()+0xae 00000000`0c2dd950 000007fe`e757a1c7 System_Data_ni!System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.TdsExecuteRPC(System.Data.SqlClient._SqlRPC[], Int32, Boolean, System.Data.Sql.SqlNotificationRequest, System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject, Boolean)+0x1189 00000000`0c2ddbf

silverlight + WCF Service + Dynamic proxy(custom binding) + basic authentication on iis

hi all, I am having an issue with how to get windows identity in silverlight project. Below is my scenario: the silverlight application need to get data from server via WCF service, i used the way that built dynamic proxy at runtime and aslo used custombinding in this case. Now my application need to deploy on iis and chosen "basic authentication" as a authentication mode. Thus i have chosen authentication mode in WCF was " <security authenticationMode="UserNameOverTransport">". At the client side where kind of project is silverlight that i need have to dynamic proxy with custombinding. My question is: In basic authentication how can i get windows identity to set to chanelfactory.Credentials: _channelFactory = new ChannelFactory<TWebService>(this._binding, new EndpointAddress(_endpointAddress));            _channelFactory.Credentials.UserName = new UserNamePasswordClientCredential();            _channelFactory.Credentials.UserName.UserName = "username";            _channelFactory.Credentials.UserName.Password = "password"; actually, i do not want to use Windows a

Proxy Managed Metadata Service Error

Hi I've deleted my web apps installed a language pack and then I've created new web apps and site collections on them with the new language (not reinstalling all again). On my portal I've made a Content type based on Document Set with a few Custom columns based on some taxonomy created before. My problem is that the new Content type was created like one which was created before deleting my web apps (the custom columns are the same), and now when I publish it the other web app is importing the old content type first (FROM WHERE I DON"T KNOW) and when tries to import the new one (which has a column with the same name) the Proxy Managed Metadata Service gives an error 'Filed internal name conflict.....' If I click on managed Metadata Service url http://portal/_layouts/mngctype.aspx  the old Content type of course that it's not present. Where should I search for it to delete it ? Can't Add Service Reference in VS 2010 to a net.tcp endpoint

I've got a service running (well, it doesn't crash), but when I try to add a Service Reference to it, I keep getting Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'net.tcp://localhost:55555/mex'. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'net.tcp://localhost:55555/mex'. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. Deploy XBAP application with WCF Service Reference into multiple environments

Hi, we have a multiple environment setup (local, Development servers, QA servers, prod servers, etc.) and we are building an XBAP application that uses WCF Services to connect to databases.  We code and unit test everything locally and then deploy to our Development servers for more thorough unit testing.  The issue that we are having is that we don't see how to update the deployed XBAP application to use the Development server deployed WCF Service.  The only way we've been able to do this is by having to change the reference on my local machine, complie, and redeploy the XBAP.Question:  How do we configure a deployed XBAP's Service Reference to point to the same service on a different server than what it was originally compiled/deployed with?  (Like in some configuration file...NOTE: but we also don't see a config file after deploying the XBAP.)  We don't want to have to update the Service Reference for QA, Prod, Training, Stage, etc. on our local machines, compile and redeploy every time we need to migrate the application to a new environment. Thanks!

How do I generate service reference activities in my rehosted designer

My desginer is used to create lots of xamlx workflows.  These are hosted in app fabric. From Visual Studio I can add a service reference that points to my workflows, and it generates activities in my toolbar that I can use to call my service from another workflow. I'd like to do the same thing from my rehosted designer.  I figured it would be something like calling svcutil.exe, but couldn't find any information on this. Does anybody know how to create xaml activities by pointing at a service for a workflow designer rehost?   CheersJason Bolstad

Problem adding a Service Reference

Hello all.

I am developing a Web Application using Visual Studio 2010 in witch I have to add a Service Reference to http://dev.virtualearth.net/webservices/v1/geocodeservice/geocodeservice.svc?wsdl.

The problem is that my company's network requires a proxy authentication. So when I enter the "Add Service Reference" dialog, paste the url and click "go" I get a "(407) Proxy Authentication Required" error and cannot add the service.

I also tried using svcutil but the result, obviously, was the same.

How can I work around this? Is there somewhere I can specify the required proxy? Googling around, I found some comments that it can be specified in the Web.config, but I can't find more details on how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Cannot reference dll in windows service

Hi!

I've created a windows service in VS 2010 which references the model conveniently placed in a separate project which compiles to a dll. I have no problem referencing this dll in other parts of my solution (web apps), but in my windows services the following symptoms display:

  1. Compiler error: The type or namespace %%% cannot be found (are you missing....
  2. I add a reference to %%% (directly to a dll copy or to the project, makes no difference).
  3. The compile error disappears.
  4. I build.
  5. The compile error reappears.

Using fw4.

What's up with that?

Edit: I can add and use other dlls ofcourse. Third party and microsoft's.

Web Service .NET 3.5 through a proxy ?

How do I access a web.service version 3.5 (both web service and client application) through a proxy ?

I couldn't find anything about it, only results I get from google are articles from 2006, with things that are nowhere to be seen, for example :

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/webservices/web_service_by_proxy.aspx
This article says the service instance has a proxy property, but my instance doesn't have anything like that :

s.Proxy = pr
There's no Proxy property anywhere...
