Unable to remove web config entries when using Supplemental .config

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi,

I'm using  Supplemental .config for add an httpmodule to the web.config in Sharepoint 2010. I use a feature receiver to push the entry from   Supplemental .config to the web.config.

But I couldn't figure it out how to remove the entry as otherwise it adds the entry over and over again when ever I deploy the feature.

Here is the Supplemental .config.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

  <actions>

    <add path="configuration/system.webServer/modules">

      <add name="ABC404HttpModule" type="ABC.Internet.Business.HttpModules.ABC404HttpModule, ABC.Internet.Business, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=9e85b319f306f692" />

    </add>

  </actions>

I tried to use remove node without any success. May be I don't know how to use it correctly.

Thanks in advance.

Web deployment project - web.config section replacement does not add remove tag

I have a web application that is actually installed as a component of a third party site.  In some configurations, I need to remove certain connection strings and re-add them.  I'm replacing this web.config section with a xml file that includes the following:

<connectionStrings>
      <remove name="MyOverridenConnection"/>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"
           providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>

For some reason the remove tag is left out during the substitution and I end up with the following in the installed config:

<connectionStrings>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"
           providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>

Is there any way to issue removes in replaced sec

config.web httpHandlers add and remove elements for ajax

I'm using an autocomplete contol of ajax toolkit. Yesterday a user found that it had stopped working (it wasn't generating the list as you type letters in the textbox). After hours of troubleshooting, I found that in web.config <httpHandlers>, this line -- <remove verb="*" path="*.asmx" /> was placed after the <add> line like this:

<httpHandlers>
<add verb="*" path="*.asmx" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add verb="*" path="*_AppService.axd" validate="false" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add verb="GET,HEAD" path="ScriptResource.axd" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" validate="false"/>
<remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/>
</httpHandlers>

I fixed the problem by removing the <remove> line, but it seems I can also fix the problem by placing the <remove> line b

And its a feature that assembly reference are automatically added to assembly tag in Web.config, So dev don't have to worry about it.    Recently i used Interop.OWC11.dll in my application. And ^&*# got the annoying "CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Office' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"error again.. Assembly entry was not added automatically. I checked same for existing references in my application, for them to automatic entries is not happening.... ? :(     I have to write is down in Web.config manually... I don't understand why?....Tried to find resources on net for this issue, didn't found any relevant ones.. Please can anyone explain me why this is hapennig?....

.NET 3.5 built Mixed mode assembly unable to load in .NET 4 (even after using app config) without .N

I am trying to run a .NET 3.5 built mixed mode assembly in .NET 4. I was able to do that by adding an app config file with the following content:

<configuration>
<startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
</startup>
</configuration>
The problem is that I used an XP machine and installed .NET 4 on it (without any other previous versions of .NET). When I tried to run the same thing, it gives me an error saying it is unable to load the assembly in .NET 4.

Any idea why this is still depending on .NET 3.5?

Unable to Authorize Launch Permissions for missing "Microsoft Excel Application" in DCOM Config

 Hi,

I would like to develop Excel charts programatically using VB .NET and the Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library (http://www.beansoftware.com/asp.net-tutorials/generating-excel-reports.aspx).  To accomplish this, I need to authorize the aspnet user on my machine launch permissions on "Microsoft Excel Application" DCOM (http://blog.crowe.co.nz/archive/2006/03/02/589.aspx).  I tried using dcomcnfg.exe to do this, however, I cannot find the "Microsoft Excel Application" DCOM under DCOM Config.

I am developing on a Windows XP (work machine) using Office Excel 2003

Why is the ""Microsoft Excel Application" missing in DCOM Config? More importantly, how can I give aspnet launch privileges to if Microsoft Excel Application DCOM is missing in DCOM Config?

Thanks,

Marc

[SOLVED] .Net 2 Service unable to access Connection String in Machine.config

I have a Windows Service I have developed in Visual Studio 2005 (C#).

It accesses a database using a connection string in machine.config.

On my Windows XP Pro 32bit (SP3) machine, it works correctly.

On my new Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine, it throws "object not set to an instance of an object" when it gets to the line where it's trying use the connection string.
This is the 'object' which is not set in Windows 7:
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyDatabase"].ConnectionString

The machine.config has the same connection string set up on both machines.

A .Net 2 website transferred to the Windows 7 machine has no problem accessing the same connection string.

I have tried a bunch of different permissions on the machine.config and its containing folders, and setting the service to log in as Admin, but I don't know exactly what permissions are required.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Many thanks.

Unable to encrypt web.config connectionStrings in web application project

 I'm all set on the server side with the RSA key pair installed. Where I'm hung up is trying to get the job done on the web.config file ... can't seem to get the aspnet_regiis command string right. I am using the command string provided by the web host (DiscountAsp.net). Most (all) of the examples I read use a website on the development machine. I actually registered my project in IIS and tried that but it didn't work. In any case I would rather not have to go to the hassle of registering a project in IIS anyway if I can avoid it.

Details:

My web application project is in a folder on my local machine:

D:\Projects\<project name>

This is most recent (failed) attempt to use aspnet_regiis:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -pe "connectionStrings" "D:\Projects\<project name>"

Is it possible to just do this manually by looking at the NetFrameworkConfigurationKey_xxxxx.xml file and entering the values? Seems like it should be do-able except I'm not sure how to parse the xml file for the correct values.

On a related note, when I add the following code to web.config it "announces" that "The keyContainerName attribute is not allowed". Ditto useMachineContainer

    <configProtectedData defaultP

Add and Remove Web.config SafeControls Programmatically

I am using this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb861909.aspx

The adding a SafeControl to the web.config works good. But the removing does not work! What is wrong?

  Here in comments you can see the same problem  http://blog.thekid.me.uk/archive/2007/03/20/removing-web-config-entries-from-sharepoint-using-spwebconfigmodification.aspx

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET AJAX
.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

reading values from config files in NUnit tests

One of my NUnit tests has to read in some values from config files.  In my main application this process works perfectly well, however when I run the unit test, the code that reads in the values from the config files doesnt read anything in.  Ive tried putting app.config in my unit test project (I even tried web.config) but nothing seems to work.  Are there any special steps involved when reading from config files in an nunit test ?

NUnit and config files

Ive created an NUnit test project in my solution and have added 3 tests.  They all fail with the same error

Modifying connection String in Web config using Install Wizard

Hey,

Im trying to create a Web Deployment Project, the built in setup and deployment is very good in Visual Studio, i need to able to add an additional step in the setup to change the connection string in the Web config file. Ive seen a lot of articles on how to do this and in particular this http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/15/tip-trick-creating-packaged-asp-net-setup-programs-with-vs-2005.aspx#7162670 I am however stuck on the final part of this tutorial, im using the code Scott provided but have two errors,  heres part of my code where the errors are

using System;
using System.Configuration;
using System.Configuration.Install;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.IO;
using System.DirectoryServices;

 void ConfigureDatabase(string targetSite, string targetVDir, string connectionString)
        {
            // Retrieve "Friendly Site Name" from IIS for TargetSite
            DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("IIS://LocalHost/" + targetSit

The ASP Column: What's in ASP.NET Config Files?

Even though you've been using ASP. NET for a while, how much do you really know about ASP. NET configuration files? While you've probably touched the Web. config file from time to time, there are some nuances involved in configuring ASP.

Razor View Engine and Add Namespace in Web.Config Problem

Hello,

I am working on a MVC project with Razor view engine and I have the following:

  @MvcHtmlString.Create(
    Bundle.Css()
      .Add("~/Styles/FlyOnDreams.FlyOnPages.Base.css.less")
      .Add("~/Styles/FlyOnDreams.FlyOnPages.Core.css.less")
      .Render("~/Styles/FlyOnDreams.FlyOnPages.Core.min.css"))

This only works if I have on the same view the following:

  @using SquishIt.Framework;

However, on my Web.Config I have the following:

    <pages>

      <!-- Namespaces -->
      <namespaces>
        <add namespace="System"/>
        <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc"/>
        <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax"/>
        <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html"/>
        <add namespace="System.Web.Routing"/>
        <add namespace="Microsoft.Web.Mvc"/>
        <add namespace="SquishIt.Framework"/>
      </namespaces>

    </pages>

So if "SquishIt.Framework" namespace is added on Web.Config why do I need to have the @using on the view?

How in web.config work in MVC

Hi,

I would like to secure any URL below the http://MyServer/Admins and limit it to a specific role.

In webforms it was straight forward. I just put a child web.config in the /Admin/ folder and add <authorization>  <allow roles> tags to it.

How would be the equivalent technique in MVC?

Thank you,

Max

pageParserFilterType in Web.config

Hi there,

I'm asking this question AFTER I've already solved my problem - I just wanted more info about it.

Each time I tried to create a ViewUserControl with a specific model template like this:

<%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProject.Web.ContactFormContent>" %>

The control would not compile properly and intellisense would not show things like Html and ViewData.

However, when I add the attribute pageParserFilterType to the <pages> in web.config, everything works:

      pageParserFilterType="System.Web.Mvc.ViewTypeParserFilter, System.Web.Mvc,
        Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"

<pages
      pageParserFilterType="System.Web.Mvc.ViewTypeParserFilter, System.Web.Mvc,
        Version=3.0.0.0
