SharePoint DateTime control returning current date when no date is selected

Hi,

In WSS 3.0, I am using sharePoint DateTime control. I retrieve the date selected by the user using SelectedDate property of the sharePoint DateTime control.

The issue is that even when the user has not selected any date in the sharePoint DateTime control, the SelectedDate property of the sharePoint DateTime control returns current date. I guess it should return DateTime.MinValue or null when the user has not selected any date in the sharePoint DateTime control.

Kindly clarify.

Thanks,
Bala

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

Dim UploadFileName As String = uploadAvatar.PostedFile.FileName

        If UploadFileName = "" Then
' There is no file selected
            args.IsValid = False
        Else
Dim Extension As String = UploadFileName.Substring(UploadFileName.L

Validation Control Query

Hi,

I've read that if you put a validation control on a page it performs the validation on the client AND server side.

My question is, if you've got a button's click event and you put code in there that puts submitted data into a database, how will the validation controls stop the data being inserted?

Is validation simply performed before anything else, then the page just stops?

Video: Field and List Item Validation in SharePoint 2010

SharePoint supports the ability to create Excel-like field validation formulas to validate field data in a list, which greatly reduces the amount of custom code that a developer must create and deploy. (Length: 1:44)

Data validation for datetime parameter in SSRS

Hi,   I wanted to know more about validation of SSRS parameters. I have a simple report which has a parameter called startdate of DateTime datatype. The datetime parameter in SSRS takes manual input as well. So, the user can enter any junk value. I want to ensure that the input parameter is in correct format and I want to display an error msg when the format is incorrect. My report has the following VB code for validation:   Public Function Validate( ByVal startdate As String) As BooleanIf IsDate(startdate) = True Then Return TrueElse Return FalseEnd IfEnd Function   And my report has a textbox which has the expression property set to; =Code.Validate(Parameters!startdate.Value) the textbox on the report has to display if the entered date is valid or not.   But, when i enter an erroneous date, SSRS doesn't render the report and throws a generic error. This happens even before the code written for validating the parameter executes.   Also couldn't find a way to disable the manual input for the datetime parameter. Even that would solve the problem.   Another alternative was to make the startdate parameter as string, but i want the calendar control button to be provided for the user.

Validation control half disapears in CollapsibelPanel

Hi all,I have a textbox sitting at the bottom of a collapsible panel which has a  RequiredFieldValidator sitting underneath that. If a user tries to submit the form without filling in this textbox then the RequiredFieldValidator generates a little "Required" box beneath the textbox. The trouble is that the panel doesn't resize propely and only the top of the validation warning box is visible so the message isn't legible.I tried adding some margin-bottom to the div that contains the textbox and validator to ensure the space was already there but the moment the validation box appears the collapsible panel automatically resizes so the bottom of the panel meets the bottom of the textbox, ignoring the prior margin.Apart from moving the validation box, does anyone know how I can get the collapsible panel to resize correctly?ThanksVanlightly

SharePoint read/recognize a Digital Signature in Word (XML Content Control Mapping)?

I am using Content Control Mapping to pull certain fields from a Word Document and include it as columns when a document is uploaded into a Document Library. We're using MOSS 2007 and Word 2007. It is required that the user digitally signs the document before uploading.  Is there a way to get the signature to appear as a column in a similar fashion?  I'm new to this mapping business, and Google hasn't been much help. I realize I could use the Collect Signatures workflow, but that seems cumbersome to 1) have the user submit it, 2) have an admin open each document and start the workflow and 3) have the user THEN sign the document.  That's more steps than simply manually opening and verifying digital signatures. I figure I'm missing something obvious here.  Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Creating Custom ASP.NET Control for use on a SharePoint 2010 OOTB WebPart

I am currently trying to develop a custom asp.net control that can be deployed to SharePoint 2010 and then included on something like a New item form. I have been able to build the control as part of a webpart but it needs to be done as a stand alone control that can be used on various webparts including the out of the box webparts like the WebPartPages:DataFormWebPart. Are there any good examples of building a custom control, deploying it to SharePoint and then using SharePoint designer to add that control to an existing web part?

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Client side validation using Client OM in sharepoint 2010

Hi, Can we use Client Object Model for Client side validation? Suppose, i have a SharePoint 2010 List. While adding a new item in that list, i want to check for Title is already available or not, person has posted any item earlier or not..that kind of stuff. Could i check this at client side rather than ItemAdding Event, so that i can reduce the network traffic? Thanks in advanced. Hardik Shah Solution Developer.
