Access denied for anonymous users on list webparts

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have problem with list webparts on Sharepoint foundation web site with anonymous access allowed.

Here is the configuration:

1. Sharepoint Foundation on win 2008 r2 server in standalone mode.

2. Anonymous access is allowed on the web site

3. All permissions are inherited from the top level site (anonymous users have reading allowed)

4. I've created custom xsl templates for rendering list content. They are all stored in Site Assets Library

5. I've added standard OOB list webparts to my webpart pages and linked those webparts to my custom xsl files.

6. everything works fine

7. But when I do an iisreset and try to reach my webpart page as anonymous user I get: "access denied. you do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource." error

8. When authenticated user visits problematic page everything is fine for anonymous user too. (Visiting page as authenticated user is enough)

9. While I'm receiving an error, when I try to access xsl file it shows up in a browser so the xsl file itself is accessible.

Anyone has an idea? There is no custom code here or some references it is just plain old list web part with xsl file.

It looks like cache problem but I'm not sure

Access denied to folder in ASP.NET project either though I have granted all users full permissions !

i have made a very simple file upload app, that i want users to be able to upload images to a folder on my server, well localhost for the time being Stick out tongue

here is the simple upload code...

"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. All Users (Including Site Collection Admins) receiving Access Denied from one Site Collection

I usually spend my time in the forums answering questions.  But this time I need the help. I’ve got a client who somehow has succeeded in locking EVERYONE out of one of their Site Collections.  Users can authenticate to the site, but get an accessdenied page when you try to access anything in the site collection, including pages served from the _Layouts virtual directory.  The AccessDenied page shows that they are authenticated, but not authorized.  This is true for Site Collection admins and user’s who have been given Grant Full Control via a Web Application Permission Policy.  Central Admin and one other site collection are behaving normally.  I've already checked for database permissions - the service account can access the database fine. I've also checked for a locked database or overextended quota.  It's not that either. The accessdenied page url references the users list in the root of the site collection as the offending list denying access.   Does anyone have any ideas?Paul Stork SharePoint Server MVP

Create List Sharepoint Client Object Model Access Denied

I am trying to create a silverlight application by making use of the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model using the following code:

private void CreateList(object sender, ClientRequestFailedEventArgs e)
  ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext("http://server");
  ListCreationInformation lc = new ListCreationInformation();
  lc.Title = "FlexiTime";
  lc.Description = "";
  lc.TemplateType = (int)ListTemplateType.GenericList;
  List newList = ctx.Web.Lists.Add(lc);
  System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(CreateListCallback), ctx);

private void CreateListCallback(object s)
  var context = (ClientContext)s;

The error I receive is as follows:

Anonymous access for mobile users

I have set up anonymous access on a sharepoint 2010 publishing site, and that works fine. However, when I try to access the site from a mobile device ( or in a browser with a url of http://server/pages/default.aspx?Mobile=1), I get 401 Unauthorized.

In the IIS log, it's showing a 401 on: /_layouts/mobile/mblwp.aspx

Any suggestions for getting anonymous to work for mobile users?

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

LDAP Domain Users Access denied Error

I have a MOSS 2007 test server setup and have configured Forms Based Authentication on Internet site (just an extension of the main portal site) that authenticates via an LDAP Active Directory server. Most of it works. I can import profiles from the LDAP provider and LDAP users can authenticate to the FBA URL.

The problem I'm running into is with LDAP groups and the Role provider. If I add an LDAP users to a Sharepoint permissions group directly, he can log in and access the site with no problems. However, if I instead add a Group from LDAP (which People Picker finds just fine) then members of that group can authenticate, but get the "Access Denied" page for the portal.

Access Denied Error While trying edit sharepoint list item

Help needed! Access denied for the root site for all users except Site Collection Administrators?!

We had implemented an intranet for a customer. Last week on friday we completed the project and they were allowed access to it. Next monday they had done some changes while trying to learn SharePoint (among others the Site Members groups had been deleted) and since then they have been unable to access the root site (e.g. http://intradev/default.aspx) and get a SharePoint Access Denied message. While the root site fails, users can browse to the subsites (e.g. http://intradev/subsite/default.aspx) and view them just fine.

We've noticed that users that are in the Site Collection Administrators group can view the root site just fine. Due to this, we made an educated guess that users had no permissions on the root web. But explicitly adding permissions to the root web does not work. The logon still fails. While it doesn't work in the root web, the permissions are inherited to all subsites, and users can log on and browse those pages just fine.

I've checked pretty much everything. I've tried giving permissions to users in the root site. I've ensured in Central Admin that 'Full Control' does actually give full control of everything. Only thing I've not yet tried is restoring the content database to an earlier backup, where the site was working nicely.

I'm totally confused by this problem. If you've got any ideas or have encountered a similar

Users can access every new library though Anonymous access id disabled

Hi guys,

I have a really strange stuff going on... I have Anonymous acces disabled on my MOSS portal in Central Administration:

Central Admin->Application Management->Authentication Providers->Default-> Anonymous Access is checked off

So I doesn't even have an option to enable it on any sites of this web application. But when I create a new Document Library all users have read permissions to it though I left only System Account at library permissions .

Am I missing something?

Client Object Model - Anonymous Access (Access Denied)

I am trying to get a silverlight application which uses the client object model to work with anonymous access.  I have found the following msdn article.
however on the beta there does not appear to be any authenticationmode method to use.

Does anyone know if they have removed this from the beta dll?  or does anyone have any idea how you can get the client object model to work over anonymous access.

Anonymous Web Parts Gallery? How do I give anonymous users access to the necessary web parts without

I'm thinking about having an anonymous web parts gallery, alongside the existing web parts gallery in my site collection. I need a way to give anonymous users access to 2 or 3 web parts without giving them full browsing rights to my web part gallery of ~100

I'm pretty sure this is necessary from a security point of view (please feel free to contradict me)

At the moment i'm trying to define a list that is a web part gallery, then i'll add certain web parts just to that list and add them to pages appropriately

Intermittent Access Denied to Users with Member Permission Levels

Hello Community,

I have another tough SharePoint mystery I am trying to solve.  Essentially, users with Member permission levels are experiencing issues accessing a sub-site of a Site Collection intermittently. Users will Full Control, Site or Farm Collection Administrator access do not experience this issue. When the Site Owner with Full Control permission levels opens the site in the morning then the users with Member permission levels are able to access and navigate the sub-site without issue.  Does anyone have any thoughts on what this type of problem may be related to?

SharePoint 2010 - Access Denied 403 error when viewing a list

We have a solution packaged as a WSP. It has worked fine on three machines now, but the person that is going to be doing a demo cannot get this working right. The features activate fine for the site collection, however, when he goes to view any of the lists created by this feature (or any of the layouts application pages),  he gets 403 forbidden errors. He can view the built in lists OK. It seems like an IIS configuration issue, we have double checked all of his settings, anything we could be missing?

EDIT - He can open SharePoint Designer and view the lists fine from there, even navigate to the permissions for them.

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

Edit List Item - Access Denied

There are supposed fixes for this but I cannot get a decent reply so i am posting a new thread. I am getting the same error as what was in this thread.

I want to run the script but cannot without getting an error.

Can I get step by step of how to run this script? Save the code into what? Run from what? On server or workstation?

I am a sharepoint admin, not a developer so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to code language...
