How to Populate a Column in List A with a Count of Items from List B

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a list, say called "Garages" with columns "Garage Name", "Number of Cars" and "Number of Red Cars". I have another list, "Cars" that has the fields "Registration", "Color" and a lookup field of "Garage".

I can populate the "Number of Cars" that does a count of the number of cars which have a look up that points back to this garage (a not so widely publicized option in the web front end). However, the "Number of Red Cars" is not just a count, it's more specific.

I was hoping I could create a SharePoint 2010 Designer workflow, that when an item is created/amended/deleted in the cars list, it re-counts the number of say red cars in garage XYZ, and updates the value of total red cars in the garages accordingly.

Does anyone know how to do this? (In SharePoint Designer rather than a custom event handler or other coded method). However, I can't see how to get a count of items from a list where column A = "abc".

Many thanks.

Ben

Add Items to List with BDC Column via Web Services

I really hope this is possible.  I am trying to add items to a list that have a BDC column as one of the fields.  Here is the code I am using in the Batch

batchElement.InnerXml = "<Method ID='1' Cmd='New'>" +

"<Field Name='Title'>Hello World</Field>" +

"<Field Name='bdc'>BDCIdentifier</Field>&

Filter items with a date column with parameters start date and end date on a sharepoint list?

If I have alist with a view that has the columns Title, Status and Status Date and the view has some items. How Can I add a filter with two parameters, start date and end date, to only show records with status date equal to or greater than parameter start date and status date is less than or equal to parameter end date? This is a sharepoint online site and I can't create and deploy custom code, can use SPD though. Do I need to use SPD or is this something I can do in the list settings? Thanks in advance.   Edit: I had a look here http://www.endusersharepoint.com/2009/09/29/sharepoint-date-filter-filtering-a-list-by-greater-than-or-equal-to-date/ but I don't have the Date Filter web part.

Need to link multiple External Content List items to a single document metadata column

I have an external content list - for my purposes, the data isn't any fancier than a list of terms provided by a web service (read only - I don't need update/delete functionality). I want to be able to link any subset of those terms to a single document metadata column (in other words, I need it to work like a normal content list that is defined to allow multiple values in a column) but SharePoint doesn't let me do that on an ECL. I need the content list to be externally driven since more values are going to be added to an outside system over time, but I think it's possible that I may not need a full-fledged ECL list to make this work this way in SharePoint. Just to clarify: I don't need the metadata values in my documents to maintain a PERSISTENT link to the web service (if someone changes an underlying value in the web service DB, it doesn't need to be updated in the document table too). I just want SharePoint to offer up an updated set of source values from the web service if somebody goes in and edits the document metadata. Any ideas for how I can make this work?

Display single item from List using XSLT and show total count of all items in list

I have a simple SharePoint 2010 list named "Tips". Each item consists of a Title and Description. I want to display a single item at a time in a sidebar on my site with arrows to advance to the next or previous item in the list. I've been able to accomplish this pretty easily using OOTB SharePoint XSLT list view web part settings and AJAX. However, when I tell the web part to only display 1 item at a time the pager always says it's showing item "1 of 1" or "2 of 2". It won't show the total number of items from the list. I'd like it to show something like item "1 of 25", etc. How do I get it to display the total count of items from the list?  I've looked at possibly using aggregation attributes on a FieldRef but I've not been able to get anything to work. I'm not even sure that's the right place to be looking. I'm needing to accomplish this without writing a custom web part.

Thanks,
Jason

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

Get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB.net - C#.net.

How to Customize the Add Comment 'Items on this list require content approval...' notification in

WSS 3.0:

If content approval is turned on, the Add Comment section displays a fairly ugly notification. Is there any way I can customize that section through e.g. CSS or SPDesigner?

I'd like to change at least the text, and preferably the yellow exclamation image, and also the background if possible.

Picker returns nothing for BDC column in custom list

Playing with the BDC for the first time, running into some issues adding a Business Data column to a custom list.

I believe my ADF file is solid. I've been able to import that just fine and can use the application to drive various BDC-specific webparts (a Business Data List or Business Data Item, for example). It also seems to work when I manually enter information in my NewForm.aspx field and click the Check Names button (it verifies my entry and underlines it, creates link to profile when I view the list data).

But...

If I try to use the picker, I get nothing. Enter a name I know is valid or a % and click the magnifying glass icon and I very briefly get the "Please Wait" message, then just an empty set with "Type into the search box above then press "Enter" to start your search" where my results should be.

Any pointers? Thanks.

Use BDC data in list as multi-select column

I have a document library that uses values from another system for its metadata.  Right now, we copy the values from the primary system into SharePoint so users can choose them.  I want to find a way to use the BDC connection that I have set up to automatically pull those values.  The problem is that the current metadata is set to multi-select.  So, I have a file that is in the library and it can be used for multiple clients - clients is a column in my library and users can select many entries.  When I set up a column to pull BDC data, it only allows single entry.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Display tooltip for Sharepoint list items

Hi All,

I am using MOSS 2007 and my requirement is to show tooltip when I hover the mouse over the title column for each item. I am planning on storing the tooltip string for each listitem in a seperate column. Is there a way to do it. I am sure there is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Delete list items en masse?

Is there a way to delete list items en masse from a SP list?  I am on MOSS 2007.  In order to use a particular site as a site template I had to save with content and I don't want the content.

DVWP not displaying a column as per the original list

I have a data view web part which displays a list column that allows multiple items to be selected from another list.  So in this column (in the actual list), the content in a particular cell is as follows:

6698; 1211; 3342; 1231; 1231

However, when I insert this field into the DVWP, the content above ends up losing all the spaces and so looks like this:

6698;1211;3342;1231;1231

I am not sure why this is happening, and plus some of the entries in this column are made up of a very long string of numbers.  Even if I control the width of the column, this long list only ever gets displayed on one line (i.e. width restriction is ignored), therefore my page is being displayed very wide.  I think this is happening because of the lack of spaces in the string, but am not sure.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Thanks for taking time to read.
Nirav
