External List Error - Access denied by Business Data Connectivity

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello Community,

Background: In SPS 2010 I created an External Content Type that is displaying the Customers table from a Customers database in SQL Server 2008. (I also added myself as the DBO for that database.) I configured the ECT to authenticate with the User's Identity and to also use the Secondary Secure Store Application ID "contoso\administrators". I then added both these accounts to the Business Data Connectivity Service and granted them all four permission sets. I configured the ECT Operations to perform all operations, and I filtered the return by limiting it to a 100 items.  Using the Create List and Form wizard I then created an External List from the ECT.

Problem: When I display the External List in the browser I get this error - Access denied by Business Data Connectivity.

I have read several blogs about this issue (which seems to be common) but I still can't resolve it.  Can anyone help?

Remote Debugging error while creating business data connectivity model

Hi Everyone,

I have a scenario where I have to get the data from two of the stored proc's in the SQL Server and create an assocation between those models.I cannot use Sharepoint designer as there is no relationship existing between those two entities. So,I have used visual studio business data connectivity model to fulfill this requirement.I created the model with filter descriptors, input parameters and all and related those as suggested by MSDN and used LINQ to SQL to pull the actual stored procedure into the readlist and readitem methods. My issue here is,when I debug this project,I am receiving an error message tht says "remote procedure cannot be debugged.this usually indicates debugging hasn't been enabled".Then I changed the debug entry in the web.config to true to solve this issue. But,still I received the same error...what do you think might be stopping me from going ahead..ur suggestions and tips helps me a lot..

Thanks all..

SharePoint 2010 - Access Denied 403 error when viewing a list

We have a solution packaged as a WSP. It has worked fine on three machines now, but the person that is going to be doing a demo cannot get this working right. The features activate fine for the site collection, however, when he goes to view any of the lists created by this feature (or any of the layouts application pages),  he gets 403 forbidden errors. He can view the built in lists OK. It seems like an IIS configuration issue, we have double checked all of his settings, anything we could be missing?

EDIT - He can open SharePoint Designer and view the lists fine from there, even navigate to the permissions for them.

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

How to automatically resolve external business data in a MOSS 2007 document list

Here's what I have so far...

1.      I have a document list in MOSS 2007.

2.     Each document in the list may be sent to an external system for further processing.  This was done by adding a custom feature to the document libraries actions menu in SharePoint.

3.     The external system uses it's own SQL Server database.  A table in this database references the SharePoint document’s GUID.  Additional columns in the table are updated during external processing data such as status.

The problem I'm trying to solve is this:

1. I would like the see the external processing status for a document in the original SharePoint document list.  This status will change and needs to be updated for each document automatically.

I tried setting up a business data column in the document list.  I created the XML definition of the external SQL Server table using the MOSS 2007 SDK and imported the definition.  I added the business data column to the list

Business Data Error: System.OverFlowException

I have a Business Data Catalog file I've uploaded to connect to our back end Firebird DBMS through ODBC.

The SharePoint server is MOSS 2007 x64. The web front end server(s) all have an x64 Firebird Engine and ODBC driver with verified connectivity to Firebird.

When I use one of the methods, I can see connections being made to our Firebird server and the query being passed. I know the query returns results (it's a stored procedure with no parameters), but I get the following error "An error occurred while retrieving data from MROTest1. Administrators, see the server log for more information" in IE. If I look in the server logs, I see (12\Hive\Logs)

Exception handed to HandleRuntimeException.HandleException System.OverflowException: Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.     at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.GetData(Int32 i, SQL_C sqlctype, Int32 cb, Int32& cbActualOut)

Access Denied error

I have read several posts where this access denied to path ex.('c:\test' ).  The only way I got this to work was adding <identity impersonate> using my credentials in the web.config file but I don't want to use my credentials all the time.  I have Windows as the authentication mode so why doesn't it work without supplying my credentials?  I tried giving Network Service account write permissions to the folder but that doesn't work either.
