I have an existing install of SP2010 Foundation. Can I just install Search Server Express 2010 on the WFE server and connect it to the existing farm? Or can I "upgrade" SP2010 Foundation to Search Server Express 2010?

I have Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express installed. The Sharepoint was an upgrade from WSS v3 and search server express 2003.
After the upgrade whenever users search from the main site I get web part errors displayed on the search page. I think because it is trying to use the old search server express which is no longer installed.
Search Server Express 2010 is now installed and a Search Center web page can be viewed however when searching via the entire sites I site the web page with web part errors.
Any thoughts or any further information you require I can provide.
Can I get some clarification on a couple of points?
Firstly, what is the recommended installation path for SPFoundation and Search Server Express on the same server. Do I just install SSE 2010? Or SPF 2010 and then SSE 2010?
Secondly, when the two are installed together how do I add the a SSE 2010 search center link to my SPF 2010 site so I can search all crawled content? I've created crawls of Exchange public folders and file shares but when I use the built-in site search
box it's only returning content crawled from the local site and not anything from the other crawls.
Does Search Server 2010 Express include Sharepoint Foundation? Or do I need to install Sharepoint first and then install Search Server on top? This is for a brand new install on a single server.
I can't find any conclusive articles/technet references on what the correct (best) way to get to a Search Server Express 2010 built on top of Foundation actually is.
I know I can install Search Server directly, but does this then limit the features of the resulting "foundation" aspects? Is it better to do a full install of Foundation and then an 'upgrade' to search server 2010 express?
Any links to an actual reference would be great!
Setting up a new install who will be using SharePoint Foundation 2010 in Standalone mode. They do not have SQL SERVER 2008 so need to utilize the Standalone option and the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2. They are just getting started with SharePoint
and it is unknown how much the technology will be embraced to afford to purchase SQL Server at this point. I wanted to get that explanation out of the way before everyone tells me the best practice of installing in Farm mode only! I realize the best practice
but sometimes we have to roll with the punches because getting a client to begin using SharePoint on their current budget is better than never getting the chance to use it at all.
So SharePoint Foundation 2010 is installed with the default SQL Server 2008 R2 Express instance. Is there a procedure for moving the databases to a new drive? What is the default instance name that is created? I'm having a hard time locating that information
in the documentation. I've done this before with WSS 3.0 without issue but wondered if there were any documents on moving the newest databases and what the default instance name is. Thank you in advance.

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation

Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server...
http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
