Sharepoint installation will not start.

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I downloaded the sharepoint2010 eval, ms server 2008r2 eval and mssql server 2010 eval. I would like to evaluate sharepoint server. I installed server 2008r2 and mssql server 2010 in a VirtualBox 64 bits environment. When starting the sharepoint2010.exe I get the startup screen. The prepare and other information options are working, however when I click Install Software Prerequisites or Install Sharepoint Server nothing happens. Not even an error message, just nothing. Any idea what the problem is?

SharePoint 2007 Workflows - Things to Consider Before You Start

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) utilizes the Workflow Foundation (WF) to enable workflows on lists and content types. But before you start doing cartwheels there are few things you should know before you get started. The experiences I'll be discussing are not from book smarts but from building real MOSS solutions that are in production today.

Bootstrapper: Use the Visual Studio 2005 Bootstrapper to Kick-Start Your Installation

There are plenty of times when you need to get information on running processes, not the least of which is during performance tuning. Using the techniques in this article and special .NET classes you'll see how to get a process' ID, name, priority, number of threads, kernel handle, and memory consumption, as well as its user-mode, kernel-mode, and total elapsed running time and put them to use in a custom app called AssemblyBrowser.

Workflow "Failed on Start (retrying)" when new item created by BizTalk SharePoint Adapter

We've been using the BizTalk SharePoint Adapter to load various different contents into a MOSS 2007 Document Library. The library has a Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 workflow (sequential workflow created in Designer) which starts automatically when a new item is added to the Document Library. Or, at least, it eventually starts automatically.

For some unknown reason--and this is what we're hoping some of you may have some ideas on--the workflow fails to start on the first try, producing the "Failed to Start (retrying)" message. When the timer job comes back the second time, the workflow starts successfully, but this causes us to loose five minutes of potential work time (not to mention making us look bad to the VPs and CTO because they see the failure message).

In checking the log, I find the following pair of error messages each time the "Failed to Start (retrying)" status occurs:

08/27/2007 13:49:43.24  w3wp.exe (0x0CA0)                        0x1438 Windows SharePoint Services    Workflow Infrastructure        72fs Unexpected RunWorkflow: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: <Error><CompilerError Line="1" Column="1" Text="The root activity type is invalid.&q

SharePoint 2010 Long Starting if start workflow programatically

In SharePoint 2010, I'm starting workflow #2 programatically from my workflow #1. See code below:

					SPList currentList = web.Lists[new Guid(ListId)];
					SPListItem currentListItem = currentList.GetItemById(ListItem);

					//resolve any lookup parameters
					string workflowId = base.ProcessStringField(WorkflowIdentifier);

					//find workflow association by name
					SPWorkflowAssociation workflowAssoc = currentList.WorkflowAssociations.GetAssociationByName(workflowId, Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture);

					if (workflowAssoc != null)
						//start the workflow
						SPWorkflow workflow = site.WorkflowManager.StartWorkflow(currentListItem, workflowAssoc, workflowAssoc.AssociationData, SPWorkflowRunOptions.Synchronous);

And workflow #2  will hang with Starting status (1-10 minutes), Then the workflow #2 status would be modified  to Completed.

I couldn't find how to start the workflow # 2 immediately and complete immediately without several minutes delay

SharePoint 2007 SP2 Installation

I want to update SharePoint by installing MOSS SP2 but i am unable to find any link related to this. I have read several articles regarding the "Expiration date issue" and not getting which update to download.

Can anyone please give me the link from where i can download latest MOSS SP2 without that date issue?

Filter items with a date column with parameters start date and end date on a sharepoint list?

If I have alist with a view that has the columns Title, Status and Status Date and the view has some items. How Can I add a filter with two parameters, start date and end date, to only show records with status date equal to or greater than parameter start date and status date is less than or equal to parameter end date? This is a sharepoint online site and I can't create and deploy custom code, can use SPD though. Do I need to use SPD or is this something I can do in the list settings? Thanks in advance.   Edit: I had a look here http://www.endusersharepoint.com/2009/09/29/sharepoint-date-filter-filtering-a-list-by-greater-than-or-equal-to-date/ but I don't have the Date Filter web part.

How to Hide Start Time and End Time for All Day Event in Sharepoint Calendar DispForm

Cannot install Sharepoint Server 2010 "A previous installation has been detected with a license type

I'm trying to upgrade to Team Foundation Server 2010 and Project Server 2010. After getting TFS 2010 and Project Server 2007 to work with WSS 3.0, I started upgrade to Project Server 2010 which requires update to Sharepoint Server 2010 Enterprise. I installed pre-requisites and run "stsadm -o preupgradecheck" which passed everything. When I tried to run the installation I get Setup Warning "A previous installation has been detected with a license type that does not match the install in progress". I thought that my trial licence for Project Server 2007 stopped this so I completely uninstalled WSS 3.0 and restarted the server but the installation still stops with Upgrade window. Any ideas? Use Sharepoint Calendar Start Time field in calculated column

I'm trying to limit the calendar view to current week using the Sharepoint defined field Start Time. However, when I display the serial number behind the Start Time it looks like it is actually giving me the serial number for the Created Date field. I believe it is because the appointment is reoccurring but I'm hoping there is a way around it. I created a new testdate field and manually entered the date and set those appointments as all day events however they are not reocurring appointments. The testdate returns the correct serial number however the start time returns an incorrect serial number. SerialNumber1=DATE(YEAR([Start Time]),MONTH([Start Time]),DAY([Start Time])) SerialNumber2=DATE(YEAR([testdate]),MONTH([testdate]),DAY([testdate])) Start Time  SerialNumber1 Testdate  SerialNumber2 8/31/2010 40420 8/31/2010 40421 8/31/2010* 40405    9/1/2010* 40405    9/2/2010* 40405    9/7/2010 40427 9/7/2010 40428 9/13/2010* 40405    9/14/2010 40434 9/14/2010 40435 9/14/2010* 40405    9/15/2010* 40405    *These are reoccurring appointments scheduled as all day events. The others were entered as one time appointments scheduled as all day events.

How to start a workflow programmatically that was created in Sharepoint designer 2010?

Trying to start a workflow from code.  The workflow itself has been created in SPD 2010, which from what I understand, means that there is no assembly until the first time it's ran.  However, when I try to find the association record, that doesnt exist.  Is this becuase the 'code' hasnt been compiled yet?  If so, how can I have sharepoint start the just-in-time compiler for a declarative based workflow, so that can kick it off with in code? tia Rocky SandersRocky Sanders
