  • creating different sub page design template in sharepoint website

I know very little about sharepoint and have outsourced the design of a master page and sub page design for a new website using sharepoint. i received a site master file with all of the necessary images and the home page works just fine. However the file i received for the sub page design template was an ASPX file with the following instructions:

Here I enclosed the inner page layout file. You upload this file by using following instructions. you can change & edit the blue menu section in the master page itself. If I change into modifiable section you need to add the menu in each and every page, otherwise it will show as empty block. Please let me know your comments.

IIS - sharepoint/default website port number confusion

I have MOSS 2007 installed with IIS V7.

My default web site port is 80. When I created a new web application for my main sharepoint portal I also set it to 80. So obviously now the default web site port shows as stopped in IIS and it won't start.

What are the best practices. Should I change the port number for my portal to something else? I mean is it even a good idea to have sharepoint on port 80? If so, how do I go about changing the port number for my portal site?

    any help appreciated.

Map Asp.net website Roles and Users to Sharepoint website roles and users

Hi I have created an asp.net website with SQL Server based form authentication and authorization. Now, we are moving this pure asp.net website to Sharepoint 2010 website. I have developed 5 webparts for my asp.net website to migrate to Sharepoint. All these webparts are avilable for access in the same page. Now I need to implement authentication and authorization for access to these webparts in Sharepoint. I am newbie to sharepoint. Can someone provide me how can I provide authorization and authentication in Sharepoint, which should use the current SQL Server based form authentication and authorization(roles and users of my existing asp.net website) and how can I map roles and users of my existing asp.net website to Sharepoint. Please reply ASAP. Thanks & Regards Mahendra Babu

How to increase the timeout for a SharePoint 2010 website

The default timeout for an Http Request in SharePoint Foundation 2010 is 120 seconds*.  Any Http Requests above this 120 seconds will be met with a "Request timed out" error as displayed in the SharePoint logs: Unexpected     System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out. Note: The SharePoint logs can be found at:     C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS To increase this timeout you will need to modify the web.config file for the SharePoint Website.  If you are using the default SharePoint configuration, then the web.config file will be found at: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\web.config Open this file in Notepad and then scroll down to the system.web > httpRuntime element (about half way down the file).  To increase the timeout, add the executionTimeout attribute to the httpRuntime element with a value of the number of seconds for the timeout.  For example, to increase the timeout to 5 minutes, add an executionTimeout of 300 like this: <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="51200" executionTimeout="300" /> In the default SharePoint Foundation 2010 web.config file it will look like this: Save the web.config file and now the timeout for HttpRequests will have been increased (Of course you need to ask why a request is taking more than 2

Best way to implement authentication and authorization for a sharepoint 2010 website.

Hi I come across different authentication methods in Sharepoint 2010. The sharepoint website we are develpoing as of now is Intranet. Later we are planning to move it to Internet(Public) site. What will be the best way to implement authentication and authorization for our website. If windows authentication(Classic mode authentication) is default for a sharepoint website (2010) , I have a few questions ragarding windows authentication. 1) In case of windows authentication, where should we maintain  users? 2) In case of windows authentication, how are the users created? 3) In case of windows authentication, how can I perform authorization.   If we want to use FBA(Form based authentication) in sharepoint 2010, I have a few questions ragarding FBA in sharepoint 2010. 1) In case of FBA(using Claim based authentication) , if we want to use custom database(where we are storing user details and  roles) rather than bulitin SQL membership  provider, how can we achieve this? Can anyone provide some useful resources to implement authentication(Windows or FBA or dual) and authorization for a sharepoint 2010 website with sample code? Please reply ASAP. Licensing situation with internet facing website using sharepoint foundation

I'm considering using wss 4.0 for my internet facing website, with windows 2008, sql server 2008 standard on the same physical server. What is the licensing cost I'm looking at? Sifting through Microsoft's literature gave me a headache, yet no closer to an answer. Can anyone give a ballpark number, the way the total costs are added up, and the kind of licenses(processor, server, CAL, external connector etc.) for each components? Also, can I use sql server express with wss 4.0?

Integrate Sharepoint functionality in an ASP.NET website

We have a Sharepoint server and an ASP.NET server. Is it possible to add Sharepoint functionality to applications on our ASP.NET server?

What we would like to do, is interact with (create, change, save) files (mainly Excel and Word) in Sharepoint through one of our ASP.NET applications. For example, display a list of files in a certain Sharepoint folder in that ASP.NET application, with Edit and Delete links.

    Is this possible?

How can I access my sharepoint 2007 website from another machine ?

    Hi all,

At the moment i cannot connect sharepoint 2007 server from other machine. Basically Sharepoint 2007 server is up and running an my virtual machine. It works well and I can access it very well from my virtual machine. However i cannot access this sharepoint site from my base machine.

When i enter the address http://moss.mysite.com/Docs/default.aspx it showed this error :

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

The same address would work in my virtual machine.

What configuration needs to be made for this server to be available to everybody ?

Furthermore i can access other applications of the virtual machine.

For example i can access the K2 workspace from my base machine. The K2 workspace is located in the same virtual machine as the one

    for sharepoint.

What could be the issue here ?

Sharepoint IIS Default WebSite ASP.NET impersonation

Curious why ASP.NET impersonation is enabled by default.  Is it because sharepoint needs this enabled?  I would like to disable so that I can use Windows Authentication for custom web parts to access a remote sql server, this way I can use the domain user i set for the app pool.  Or is there a recommended way?

Sharepoint - having troubles uploading website pages - please help

I am doing a project at school to create a website. We are doing this in Sharepoint design so I e-mailed my incomplete website to myself from school in order to acess it from home.  However, the attachments in the e-mail I sent did not have background pictures or text when I uploaded them to Sharepoint design on my home computer.  Can anyone tell me how I can get the pages to upload correctly?  It would be great to get some help quickly as I need to finish my project this week.

Finding out who owns the IP-address of a website visitor on a sharepoint hosted website

I am woundering if there is anyone here that can help me by explaining if there is a way to save a visitors IPaddress, and send it to whois service, to see who owns the IPadress, and what organization it belongs to.

At first I was thinking that maby Google Analytics would be the way, but then I started to think. Maybe sharepoint has this functionality buildt-in.

If I have to I can do some programming, but I am not that much of a programmer. However I have found a phrase that might help me with obtaining the IPaddress through ASP. "Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_ADDR")

But I need pointers on where to put it, and on how to write a script or uses a function in Sharepoint to look up owner and organiziational information, and store it for furthere analsis.

    Hope someone can help!

    Best Regards
