Edit List Item - Access Denied

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

There are supposed fixes for this but I cannot get a decent reply so i am posting a new thread. I am getting the same error as what was in this thread.

I want to run the script but cannot without getting an error.

Can I get step by step of how to run this script? Save the code into what? Run from what? On server or workstation?

I am a sharepoint admin, not a developer so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to code language...

using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;
using Microsoft.SharePoint;

Access Denied Error While trying edit sharepoint list item

 I have a sharepoint site (2007) with two subsites . while I am trying to edit  list items in subsite its giving me Access denied error even though I have the Site collection Admin Rights.

     Please help .

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.

Getting "Access Denied" when selecting edit from Item menu

(MOSS 2007 site, I am the collection administrator).

On a particular list, when I select Edit Item from the list item's drio down menu, I get the AccessDenied.aspx page.  If I go to DispForm.aspx first, the click on the Edit Item link, I get to my custom edit form just fine.

Can anyone explain this please, and suggest a remedy?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. This webpart has just a RichTextField, in edit mode, "linked" to one item of the list, like below: SPSite _SPSite = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWeb _SPWebProjects = _SPSite.OpenWeb("/Projects"); SPList _SPListProject = _SPWebProjects.GetList("/Projects/Lists/Project"); int _ID = Convert.ToInt32(this.Page.Request.QueryString["ID"]); RichTextField _RTF = new RichTextField(); _RTF.ID = "RTF"; _RTF.ControlMode = SPControlMode.Edit; _RTF.FieldName = "History"; _RTF.ItemContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); _RTF.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); this.Controls.Add(_RTF);   Then, I "turned on" the edit tab on the ribbon by doing the follow: protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { SPRibbon _CurrentRibbon = SPRibbon.GetCurrent(this.Page); _CurrentRibbon.TrimById("Ribbon.WebPartPage"); _CurrentRibbon.MakeTabAvailable("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.MakeContextualGroupInitiallyVisible("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.Minimized = false; _CurrentRi

Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Make sure the source and destination lists have the same columns and column settings.  Access Denied   Specifically it is the "copy list item current item to documentlibrary" sharepoint designer workflow action.   I have given the system account full permissions to the library and double checked that all columns are the same in both libraries. Refresh Parent Page List after Edit Item Modal Dialog Save/Close

I am calling the Edit Item URL (EditForm.aspx?ID=x&IsDlg=1) via javascript code to bring up the Edit Item Modal Dialog. This works fine and dandy. But what callbackfunction should I invoke after the Save so that the parent list is refreshed? Is there a better way to do it than call reload on the entire parent frame? It almost looks like there should be a way to refresh just the list. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Jake.

Cannot access Workflow from List Item menu: "Value does not fall within the expected range."

We are using Sharepoint 2007 sp2.

I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to create workflow for some List, suddenly I cannot acess some list items' workflow,and was informed  "Value does not fall within the expected range." , but other items are all ok.

I don't know whether this is concerned with the service pack 2, I installed sp2 yesterday.

Create List Sharepoint Client Object Model Access Denied

I am trying to create a silverlight application by making use of the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model using the following code:

private void CreateList(object sender, ClientRequestFailedEventArgs e)
  ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext("http://server");
  ListCreationInformation lc = new ListCreationInformation();
  lc.Title = "FlexiTime";
  lc.Description = "";
  lc.TemplateType = (int)ListTemplateType.GenericList;
  List newList = ctx.Web.Lists.Add(lc);
  System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(CreateListCallback), ctx);

private void CreateListCallback(object s)
  var context = (ClientContext)s;

The error I receive is as follows:

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Workflow does not run when list item updated with MS Access

I have created a workflow in SharePoint Designer 2007 that copies the list item from one list to another archive list. The workflow is copies the list item when a field is updated to archive. This works fine when updating the list item within SharePoint.

the list is also linked to a Microsoft Access database, the workflow does not even start when updating the field within Access. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I can get the workflow to start when updating the list item with MS Access?

How to make a sharepoint list column readonly or invisible while add/edit list item in sharepoint UI

 Hi Everybody,

I have created a list in sharepoint. In that list there is a field which I want to make read only or invisible when the user tries to add or edit a list item through sharepoint UI. I want this because that particular field gets populated through a webpart and direct data entry into that field is unnecessary. Is there any way to make a sharepoint column (for me its a picture column) read only or invisible in the sharepoint UI.

thank you,

Arun Dutt
