KB2412267 hasn't changed build numbers + Navigation, Search issues

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

After applying KB2412267 (build 6548) for a x64 SharePoint 2007 server, the build number remained on the previous hotfix number 6504 and we how have issues with searching and major navigation errors with the Navigation bar not being applied to sub sites correctly.

The version numbers of various dlls show they are all at the right build number for the hotfix 6548 and the patch installed without errors and the configuration wizard completed without errors.

Is there any way to force the update again or are there issues with this patch?

Anyone else had problems?

Search and Navigation Tips/Tricks with Visual Studio

This is the twenty-seventh in a series of blog posts I'm doing on the VS 2010 and .NET 4 release.

Today's blog post continues on from the Debugging Tips post I did last week, and covers some useful searching and navigation tips/tricks you can take advantage of within Visual Studio.  These tips were ones that my friend Scott Cate (who has blogged dozens of great VS tips and tricks here) recently recommended to me as good tips that most developers using Visual Studio don't seem to know about (even though most have been in the product for awhile).

Hopefully this post will help you discover them if you aren't already taking advantage of them.  They are all easy to learn, and can help save you a bunch of time.

Ctrl + i - Incremental Search

Most developers using Visual Studio are familiar with the "Find dialog" that you can launch by pressing the "Ctrl + F" key within the IDE.  A surprisingly large number of developers, though, aren't familiar with the "Incremental Search"

FAST Search navigation

So, I have created a FAST Search and it works ok. My problem is that I cant get navigation to show up on FAST Search center. I would like just like other sites to have links that lead to our Portal and also to other sites. Not matter what I do it does not show up. All I see on the top left is FAST Search - Search. Any ideas?

Trying to build a custom application to crawl SharePoint Search

Hello,      I have been tasked with building a custom application to develop a report dynamically based upon a search ran in a SharePoint site using user-defined keywords. What I need the application to do is this: 1.) Access the results of a search, and do a full fidelity save of each item. 2.)  If the item returned is a document in a library and it has other versions associated with it, access the meta-data of those other versions and group those results with the item found in the search. 3.) Store the results in XML (probably the easiest), and build a custom display for reporting purposes. If anyone has any advice on how I can accomplish this, I would be very grateful, Thanks!

How to implement metadata based navigation/search to the documents

I have document library full of documents and each of items have managed metadata. I would like to create intuitive user interface where end-users can find documents based on managed metadata. I don't want to offer document library view as a first step interface. Which webpart suites to followings. Please suggest alternatives if my idea cannot be done. Case: End user select "personnel " metadata from treeview and press "OK/Search" and all documents which have the metadata personnel are listed.Kenny_I

adding quicklinks/tree navigation to main search page (search 2010 express)

Hi Just installed Search Server 2010 Express (full version). On the previous version you could add the top link bar to the search page to easily allow you to browse to other sections i.e contacts. With 2010 I cannot seem to add any kind of navigation away from this main page (default.aspx). Using Designer it will not allow me to edit the top bar, quick launch, tree view and top link bar have been enabled with links however they do not show up on the main search page. can someone help ?

Sharepoint Search Navigation

I seem to be foolishly stumped by the Basic Search Center navigation page. I have search setup and configured with a basic search page and have also configured my site collection search settings to point to this search center. My problem is that once I perform a search on a site in my collection, it takes me to the search results page but there is no navigation to get back to the other sites in the collection. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

-Tyler

SharePoint 2010 sql search query issues

Hello,

I am using tool for testing SharePoint search queries (http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2010/08/15/free-developer-search-tool-for-sharepoint-2010-search-and-fast-search-for-sharepoint.aspx). I have tested some queries and received some strange results. For example:

1)

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS (Title, 'get') ORDER BY Rank DESC

This query returns two results for me. And next one returns no results.

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE Title LIKE '%get%' ORDER BY Rank DESC

However I was expecting to receive two or more results.

2)

Another example is:

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE FileExtension = 'txt' ORDER BY Rank DESC

This query returns one result for me. And next one returns no results.

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS (FileExtension, 'txt') ORDER BY Rank DESC

I was expecting at least one result from this query. I would like also to mention that issue #2 is reproducible for FileExtension property only.

Could anyone please help me with these issues. Thanks beforehand for any help.

SBS2008 WSS3 to SPF2010 migration - Search Issues

Hi Everyone,

I have recently migrated a SBS2008 WSS3 SP2 to SPF2010 server.

I followed the MS migration paper (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff959273(WS.10).aspx) and the content and the SharePoint sites have come across no probs. I don’t however have any search functionality.

All the services are running, no errors in the event logs (AT ALL), no results in search, admin or standard user, same issue, no search results. I can login to central admin and look at the job timer, manually start a crawl which only lasts 1 second. No errors in the logs, no search results but the crawl is successful.

I have noticed that some jobs have a web application associated,

Program Build/Revision numbers

I am trying to show the Build/Revision numbers in my program's About Window using:-

    lblDir.Content = My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath.ToString
    lblVersion.Content = My.Application.Info.Version.MajorRevision.ToString + " : " + My.Application.Info.Version.MinorRevision.ToString + " : " +
               My.Application.Info.Version.Build.ToString + " : " + My.Application.Info.Version.Revision.ToString

    lblProduct.Content = My.Application.Info.ProductName.ToString
    lblCopyright.Content = My.Application.Info.Copyright.ToString

However, this produces 0 : 0 : 0 : 0 result even when the program has been published and installed.

I have obviously missed the point (as usual) so can someone tell me what's missing please?

Miswod.

Authorization issues while accessing Search Scopes

With reference to the code posted at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010programming/thread/eddd46a6-899d-4539-bbe0-e0895a667f97

I changed the "Search Context GetContext " from my code and have implemented the code using Service Applications.

I am getting the error

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.
   at
Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.UserVerification.ThrowIfNotSearchAdmin(SearchServiceApplicationsearchApp)
   at
Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.ScopeCollection.GetEnumerator()

I have referenced the suggestions posted for the question "http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointsearch/thread/85a35628-8f94-4d31-b085-1b19ef63101b" but I am still running into errors.

My application pool id account,the search administration default accounts are same.The account has also been given db_owner rights for all the search databases.

The crawl is also executed successfully on the central admin.

I am not sure what might be the issue.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shilpa

Excel won't search and find numbers

my excel program will not search and find numbers in new documents.!!!
Spreadsheets I prepare now which have numbers do not respond to the search command when I search for numbers.

If i search for a number, say 7647, i find several files that contain that number.

If I create a new spreadsheet with the number 7647 in it, save it, and then search for 7647, that spreadsheet does not show up in the list.

Also, if I search for a number in an older sheet, say 2345, and find one that has that number, and then ADD to that spreadsheet a new number , say 3456, save it, and search for 3456, that sheet is not found. So i can find all existing numbers that are there, but I can not search an find NEW numbers added to an old spreadsheet, nor to a new one.

It is like i have done something to my computer or excel program that is causing the search for numbers to not work.

The same is NOT true for text searches...They work fine all the time.

Also the Number search works fine in Word Documents, but not in excel.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.
