Reconnecting existing configuration database to existing Single-server WSS 3.0 deployment

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello, see below for my issue:

The problem:
  • Our company's WSS 3.0 sharepoint database recently became corrupted (still unsure what caused the corruption...). While the database was rebuilding we disconnected the farm. Now when we attempt to use the Sharepoint Products and Technologies Wizard to reconnect it asks for the Database Access Account for the configuration database. It is insisting that we use NT Authority\Network Service but if you do not supply a password (NT Authority\Network Service does not have a password) you cannot click next.

Steps we have tried:

  • We have also tried to use a local user that is under the db_owner server role and are still told to use NT Authority\Network Service.
  • We have also tried use psconfig.exe in the command line but get errors there as well when supplying no password.

Is there any way to reconnect to the farm?

Thank you for your help.

Adding an SP 2010 server to an existing farm. "Failed to connect to the configuration database." dur

I have an existing sp 2010 enterprise server hosting websites and central administration.  I have a seperate sql 2008 r2 server holding the databases.  My goal is to setup another sp 2010 enterprise server to provide redundancy for the websites and central admin.  I believe I am able to accomplish this by adding another web front end to the farm.  On the second server, I install sp 2010, run the config wizard and connect to the config database located on the sql server, however, I am interrupted at step 3 when I am notified of the following:

Failed to connect to the configuration database.
An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.  Additional exception information: There was an error encrypting or decrypting credentials. Either a credential update is currently being performed, or you must update the farm account credentials on this server before you can perform this task.

Connect to existing sql 2005 database

Hello There,

I had successfully restored sql 2000 database to sql 2005. It works like charm

Now i am creating a database model in MVC

I follow these steps

Right click on model > ADO.NET entity data model > Generate from database > New connection (Microsoft sql server) > server name > select or enter database name

But no server name AND database name show in both drop down lists. When i mannually enter database name (which exists in sql 2005) then click on TEST CONNECTION. It gives follwoing error

"A network-related or instance-specific error while establishing a connection to sql server. the server was not found or was not accessible. verify that the instance name is correct and that sql server is configured to allow remote connections.

Kindly help me with this

Infopath Template Deployment Locking Existing Records

We are currently using SharePoint Server 2007 and have multiple InfoPath lists configured and one workflow tasks list. We have workflows configured for these InfoPath lists using Visual Studio to design these workflows and use InfoPath forms as the main document. After using the workflow items for a while we have changed and upgraded the workflow for the last year. The issue came when we tried to upgrade to the third version we designed.

We have two InfoPath lists in SharePoint that have identical form templates. In both lists there are around 3000-3100 InfoPath forms give or take. I modified the template to accommodate some new fields and promoted additional fields but did not go over the

Single Server URL Name Configuration

I have created a 2 Server Farm (WFE/App and SQL) and created a Active Directory Domain (DEV.local) and DNS (DEV.Local) and set up my first site collection via the wizard after install and it works great as hhtp://servername and then I wanted to create a new site http://portal.dev.local and I am having no luck as I must be doing things out of order. I created a Managed Account, Web Application, Site Collection and I can not access it. I created an A Record and then a N Record in DNS and tried to set up Alternate Access Mapings and still no luck.  Is there some documentation on setting this up with a single IP/Machine? C# COM Client to Existing C++ out-of-process COM Server

I'm reposting this question since I've been having some problems with my MSDN subscription, hoping I might have some better assistance now that aforementioned problems seem to have been resolved. I'm trying to connect a COM client written in C# to an existing (legacy) out-of-process COM server written in C++. I have imported the tlb using tlbimp.exe and have referenced the RWC in my project. I can connect to the COM server using object scComm32ComObj = Marshal.GetActiveObject("ScComm32.Document"); But that is as far as I am able to get. I need to be able to call some methods on the ScComm32CommObj, but trying to cast it to an interface or a class usign the interface results in an exception. Thanks, Bill

How to add existing SourceSafe database to SSMS project

I have a several large Visual Sourcesafe (VSS) databases with scripts of all objects of several SQL server databases. They were integrated into VSS using Visual Studio. But the Solution file in VSS can not be opened from SQL Server Management Studio 2008 (SSMS). (Its a .sln file, and I need a .ssmssln file). If I try I get an error saying that the solution file was created with a newer version ...

My question is : How do I create a new SSMS project and connect it to one of the existing VSS databases to make it possible to view/check in/check out all the procedures, functions, tables etc. already stored in VSS from within SSMS.

Move Single MOSS Content Database to Different SQL Server

We want to mmove the single database of MOSS on Network Test and Development to the Production SQL Server. But MOSS aplication server remains same!

So in this condition it points out for the two database servers at the same time.

Is it possible? Or I need to migrate the all concern databases to the another SQL Server?

Pls HelP!

Error 3154: The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'xx' database.

This is happening with a restore to SS 2005 from a SS2000 backup. This article says to use the 'WITH REPLACE' clause. The SS2005 management studio does not seem to allow this via the GUI.

Move Configuration Database to a different server

When installing Sharepoint, I accidentally selected to install it as a SQLEXPESS server located at ComputerName\Sharepoint and didn't notice. When my site hit the 4 gig limit, I moved the content database to another server quite easily.

Now I'm wondering if it is best practice to make sure that everything is on the same server. Poking around in Central Administration I notice quite a few references to the Sharepoint server, and then my Content Database which is off on it's own. Is there an easy way to migrate everything over to my new server (a cursory glance around google hasn't turned up anything yet) or should I leave it fragmented as it is?

will installation of .NET 3.5sp1 or 4. affect an existing SQL2005 std server?

current sql2005 SE on w2k3 enterprise, has .net 2.0 on it, since there are databases for different applications, one application requrest upgrade .net framework to 3.5sp1, not sure if this will affect any other databases, I think this should Not affect it since the applications are running on seperate servers from sql server, anyone please answer or confirm, thanks

Compare excel data on sharepoint with existing sql server data

I have seveal spread sheets loaded on MOSS 2007 (we have Excel Services).  We host our SP on Sql Server 2008 R2 64 Bit on a Windows 2008 64bit server. I want to be able to write a query on that SQL Server database that can somehow access excel data directly from SP and cmpare that to data in SQL. I have been able to create a linked server (using 32 bit sql server) but have only been able to link files directly off the server and NOT from MOSS.

So the Crux of the matter: Is there a way of making some love connection that would allow me to get data directly from my excel spreadsheet that resides ON SHAREPOINT, via my Sql Server?

Does server movement affect existing application

The System Administrator wanted to move the SharePoint server from one location to another. The system Administrator said, he will not be changing the host name, but would be changing the IP address of the SharePoint server.

Is there any IP dependency for the applications running in the SharePoint 2007 server?

If changing the server from one location to another, does it affect the application?

Thank you

Adding Current Windows User to Database Encounters Existing User with Same Login

In VS2008 in debug mode, I am using SMO to programatically change the users and permissions on a database. Windows authentication alone is being used. I need to limit access to a administrators group and the current user for whom the database has been dynamically created during the first run of the application within their current Windows environment on the machine. I have no problems creating and assigning the administrators group, but when I try to create the user using the environment's UserDomainName and UserName variables (which would be my creditals) I encounter an inner exception "The login already has an account under a different user name". Before doing running the app, I manually have checked the local server for user and logins with my credentials and programatically looked at each login but have not found any matching credentials.

Insights and suggestions appreciated.
