How to point two web applications in a MOSS farm to two different clustered sql 2008 instances

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have a MOSS production farm with sql 2008 backend and the sql part is clustered. We have a couple of web applications in this MOSS farm and one of the web applications and the sites underneath it are very critical to our company. We are planning to move the database of this particular web application to a different sql instance and have the remaining web applications host on one instance.  We currently use sql aliases to point to our database server and so i am wondering how do we make this particular web application to point to the different instance. Should we create another sql alias on all our sharepoint front end servers or is there any other preferred option ?

Thanks !

MOSS 2007 Services Not Starting After Adding 2008 R2 WFE to 2003 R2 Farm

In preperation for our 2010 upgrade we have been migrating our 2003 R2 infrastructure to 2008 R2. Our prior environment was server 2003 R2 DB server running SQL 2005 and one 2003 R2 WFE. We migrated the DB server to 2008 R2 and SQL 2008. The next step was to add a 2008 R2 WFE and then decommision the 2003 R2 WFE.

Setup was successful on the 2008 R2 box. However, in CA the services on the 2008 R2 WFE show "Starting". The CA service is the only service that shows "Started" on the 2008 R2 box. The Document Conversions Launcher Service, Document Conversions Load Balancer Service, Windows SharePoint Services Search and Windows SharePoint Services Web Application show "Starting". The Windows SharePoint Services Administration does not display a status.

What step am I missing to get all of the services running on the new 2008 R2 WFE so I can turn off the 2003 R2 WFE? I don't see anything in the error logs.

SQL 2008 servers and MOSS 2007 with SSRS

I need help figuring out the limitations in a multi-database server environment and MOSS 2007 installation with SSRS.  Here is the run down:

  • I currently have MOSS 2007 server with backend on SQL 2005, which also acts as the SSRS server.  In addition I have another SQL 2005 server where business data resides and against which most of the SSRS reports run.
  • Future plan (over which I don't really have a say) is MOSS 2007 with backend on SQL 2008, which will remain to be the SSRS server.  The second SQL server with business data will be migrated to SQL 2008 R2.

Questions: does this architecture requires SSRS 2008 add-in or SSRS 2008 R2 add-in (integrated mode)?  Will there be an issue of building SSRS 2008 reports that go after SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 data mix?

it says reloaded  from the system restored

i am still getting the same error.

When i manually go to my  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\Windows Workflow Foundation i can see a folder for SQL that's it nothing more than that..

Developing mobile web applications with Visual Studio 2008 and ASP.NET Mobile Controls

I have seen a lot of posts in this forum concerning the question how to develop mobile web applications with Visual Studio 2008. In VS 2008 the templates for Mobile Web Forms are missing and there is no more designer support for ASP.NET Mobile Controls. In the Your Websites, Our Passion! blog you can download a ZIP file with the templates compiled by Omar Kahn. And I found another interesting blog post about the Microsoft Mobile Device Platforms with a discussion when Mobile Controls should be used and when not.

How to get all Secure Store Service (SSS) applications in the farm

Hello everyone, I am trying to use SharePoint 2010 Secure Store Service (next SSS) in my application to get credentials to external system. Is there any way to get all possible applications (IDs) from API provided. Currently I am using next code to get all applications: SecureStoreProvider provider = SecureStoreProviderFactory.Create() as SecureStoreProvider;             provider.Context = SPServiceContext.GetContext(SPServiceApplicationProxyGroup.Default, SPSiteSubscriptionIdentifier.Default);             if (provider != null)             {                 foreach (var app in provider.GetTargetApplications())                 {                     Console.WriteLine(app.Name);                 }             } However it depends on SPServiceApplicationProxyGroup.Default and SPSiteSubscriptionIdentifier.Default parameters. So in case I remove SSS from

Rebooting one Instance on a SQL 2008 Server with multiple instances installed

Hello, Hoping someone can answer the following questions ... If I have SQL Server 2008 with multiple Named Instances configured on it, can I reboot one Named Instance without rebooting any of the other Named Instances, or without having to reboot the entire server ? For example, if I have an application that needs to be re-booted and it requires the Database to be re-booted. Regards, JD
