How do use an existing application pool when creating a new web application on Moss-2007 SP2

I have been asked to try and reduce how much memory is being used on our Moss 2007 SP2 farm by reusing existing web application pools. My problem is that when you go through creating a new webapplication and choose the option labled "Use existing application pool" under the section labled "Application Pool - Choose the application pool to use for the new web application" I can only select from a list of three application pools "(Default App Pool (network services), Shared Services, and OfficeServerApplicationPool (NetworkService)" The drop down list does not mention any of the other app pools I have created for previous web applications. My question is this, how do I pick an existing web application pool that I have created previously, rather than keep on creating new application pools for every new web application I create? The farm consists of 3 FE servers 1 search, 1 Query and a Clustered 64bit SQL backend running SQL 2005 all running 64bit W2003 server R2 Thanks for any help you can provide on this. Mr T.    MR T

Application Exception Rule Violation thrown on Delete

I basically have my first simple asp.net MVC 2.0 web application up and running except for deletes. I tried to do the first delete today, but it throws an exception with the text Rules Violation.  I'm not sure what is causing the error however. It shouldn't be the database (I don't think) because when I trace the database, I never see the delete call and after having it fail, I was able to sucessfully run:DELETE FROM [Work] WHERE work_id = 84 GOCurrently this is my method (yes its primitive, but I was just trying to get it working), its the db.SubmitChanges() line where the application exception gets thrown. [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(int id, FormCollection collection) { try { // TODO: Add delete logic here var result = db.Works.SingleOrDefault(w => w.work_id == id); if (result == null) return View("NotFound"); db.Works.DeleteOnSubmit(result); db.SubmitChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { var result = db.Works.SingleOrDefault(w => w.work_id == id); return View(result); } } }This may be a Linq-to-Sql issue as this is really the first time I've us

MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010 Upgrade Fails - Exception: The user or group 'wsaarole:wsaa administra

Ok the top part of the error I have tracked down to some entries in the SharePoint_Config database (Classes, Objects, TimerRunningJobs) and since I have a VM I am going to study them and try deleting them probably, if it dies I will delete this VM and roll up another VM in my case its a timer job that I am guessing the farm can live without.

The other error further down is more of a concern to me which is the one I listed above. The Group exists and it is in the farm and appears to be healthy no errors in preugrade check or the like or in the Farm. When upgrading the show stopper for me is that the content databases will not upgrade (assuming they upgrade FBA I can configure) the chicken and egg issue for me is this is an FBA farm, so is it the case that b/c FBA is missing not configured yet on the other side of the upgrade in 2010 that these content dbs connected to FBA (by FBA users in the content dbs) will upgrade affter FBA is configured ( I haven't tried this yet sorting my error log one error at a time). The Particular content dbs with an issue are shared services and the main site collection db which includes my sites site collections also.

How to implement robust Document Management application using MOSS 2007

I want to implement an efficient document management system using MOSS 2007.

I know Sharepoint 2007 offers OOB document management capabilties but I am facing strong challenge in uploading large files(500-1GB file size) into document library. If I have to avoid direct storing of files in document library then pointer/link to files in physical drives is possible but in that case I will not be able to leverage the full capabilities of sharepoint.

Need some views or directions in regard to this. Any link to custom solution/source code is most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

[MOSS 2007] Cannot connect to SSL web application / site list

Hi all
I have a quite strange problem with MOSS 2007 and I cannot solve it..

I installed MOSS 2007 SP2 on a single server (Windows 2003 Server SP2 + local SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition) without problems

I created a web application (port 80) and a site list on it without problems; everything is running correctly, I can connect to http://servername and to http://servername/sites/sitename

Then I created a SSL web application (port 443) selecting "Use Secure Socket Layer"; web application is created without errors
I created a new site list on this web application and site list creation is correct

BUT I cannot connect (from the server) to https://servername/sites/sitename or to https://servername
I always have "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error

I can connect to any other SSL website using the same Internet Explorer so I don't think it is a browser problem...

I cannot understand what is the problem; the strange thing is that some months ago I installed another server with the same configuration (web appl on port 80 and web appl on port 443 and sites created on ssl web app) and I had no problem and it is still perf
