Create Sites of different Departments and give the access rights on the sites according to the Group

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have to create sites for the departments like( IT, Admin, Payroll, HR and so on...) and these sites should be in the top link bar and according to the user's group or profile the above departments should be visible on the top link bar.

I want to use same URL but for different groups top link bar of the departments should be visible.

Example:in the top link bar HR department should be visible only for the HR. and If i create a group that can see the two departments then two department should be visible in the top link bar.

Thanks and Regards

Cannot change themes of newly created sites "Access denied"

When creating a new site i cannot change the default theme (grayed out) and a message appears something like "access denied". What's wrong? The first 6 sites where created succesfully and have a modified (OOB) site theme applied, all sites I create from now on cannot have the default theme modified. I checked any check-out settings but couldnt find anything obvious. What's wrong? I didn't use any custom code or such, just clicked around like an Admin does ;)  I thought about some check-in/out issue, but couldnt see anything. Someone HELP! please!I am a SharePoint Infrastructure Engineer, focussed on Administration and Installation of SharePoint Server environments.

Error: Access Denied on default.aspx and other pages of existing and new sites

Hi, since today we can't access the project portals of all our projects (Visual Studio TFS 2008/sharepoint admin 3.0 running on esx 4.0). I already checked every possible security settings, they're all OK. I also tried creating a new site but I can't access the site. I can however access all the settings. For example when I try to access: http://server/Sites/Profel I get the "Error: Access Denied" message and the browser is redirected to http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2Fdefault%2Easpx I have no problem navigating to: http://server/sites/Profel/_layouts/settings.aspx and I can go to al lot of pages, but when I want to create something like a calendar I can specify the parameters but when I click the create button I get the same error. http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2FLists%2Ftest%2Fcalendar%2Easpx&Type=list&name=%7B46CB3B46%2DD0F6%2D47F5%2DBA1A%2D3C9654A24A8E%7D I already tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861/en-us but no success Any help is welcome, Greetz, Peter

Issues with Enterprise Wiki Sites unavailable when create Intranet Team Site

I have created Enterprise Wiki Sites and have created an Extranet Team Site and was able to create an Enterprise Wiki Site as well with it but for some reason I do not have the ability or option to create an Enterprise Wiki Site or even page when I have a Team Site on an Intranet.  I have turned on all of the publishing features but the only wiki item available to me is the wiki library.

I'm assuming I must have to activate or deactivate some other feature but I have no idea which one.

Create and consume WCF for SharePoint 2010 FBA enabled sites

Hello Everyone:

I would like to get ideas, hints or suggestions on implementing following scenario,

Create a WCF service, host in SharePoint 2010 Form Based Authentication using SQL Membership Provider enabled site collection and consume that service from another seperate asp.net web application such that whenever items in document library is inserted/updated using one of service methods, ModifiedBy field is automatically reflected based on the user who call that service method.

Thanks in advance!

Cannot access sites from Application server

I have a setup with a dedicated application server, three front-end servers and an SQL server. From the front-end servers and from the outside, I can access all my sites just fine. However, from the Application server, I can only access the Central Administration.

Whenever I try to access the sites I simply get this message:

File not found

All application pools are running just fine, I am an administrator and should have access, and as said, the sites work fine from any other computer/server.

This also results in a lot of errors in the event log with ID 2424, because the indexing search service is running from the App server.

The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.

Is it possible to create a SharePoint web using Silverlight and the Sites.asmx service?

I'm in the midst of trying this out, but I'm running into one issue.

At the very end I get an error "Error in deserializing body of reply message for operation 'CreateWeb'." within the Reference.vb.

I'm not sure what's going on here, so any assistance would be very helpful.

Here's some sample code.

  Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
    Dim client As New ServiceReference3.SitesSoapClient

    AddHandler client.GetSiteCompleted, AddressOf client_GetSiteCompleted

    AddHandler client.CreateWebCompleted, AddressOf client_CreateWebCompleted

    Dim lcid As System.UInt32 = Convert.To

Claim Authentication - access denied for central administration sites

I have configured Sharepoint 2010 für claim based form authentication following all steps in technet articel. But after modification of web.config of central administation site, access to adminitration is denied for my windows administator account.

I am not sure that Sharepoint connects to LDAP server correctly. I have not understood the mechanisme Sharepoint connects to LDAP server. No user account/password for authentification Sharepoint server against LDAP server have to be configured!? Is that true or do I have to make additional settings in LDAP server?

Thank you for any hint.

Status List WebPart or KPIListWebPart missing when create sites based in a site template that has it

Hi Everyone,

I have a site collection in SharePoint server 2010, and within this site collection I have a site. This site has KPIListWebPart or Status List WebPart. I have added this WebPart through SPD 2010, because through SharePoint you cannot add this particular WebPart.

The problem is the following:

The site (with the Status List WebPart) has to be a Site Template, in order to allow the users to create sites as needed. In the site, the Status List WebPart works perfectly, but when I create a new site based in the site template, the Status List WebPart is missing.

Any idea why is it happening?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

SharePoint Tutorial - Team Sites

Team sites are small web sites that are created to store everything about a particular thing. For example a site can be created for a department in an organization like human resources. I site can be created for a particular project. A site can even be created for a meeting. Everything about the thing (department, project, meeting) like documents, lists, calendars, etc. is stored in that site.

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

2 Web Sites

Does anyone know if it is possible to pass a Session variable from one web site, to another web site?  I am writing both.  They are located on the same server - but with different URL's... different projects...
