Declarative Workflow not working after patch

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

This is for wss 3.0, this is not a MOSS implementation, the version listed is

I have a couple of automatic workflows. One workflow is to start automatically on create, the other starts automatically on change. If I set the first workflow to allow for manual initiation and kick it off, it works, the other workflow based on change then processes when the item is updated. However if I make the update to the item manually the second workflow does not process.

The admin did change the web app accounts from local system accounts to a domain account as I requested. This did not solve the issue. The site was recently backed-up from a host provider and migrated to an on-premise server, however everything else seems to be working appropriatley.

1. All workflows that are geared to be automatic do not work, either on created or change. They do work if manually initiated.
2. There are three workflows and all are created in SharePoint Designer, and have been reassociated since the migration

Thank you

Delay Activity is not working with SharePoint state machine workflow

Hello,   I have a problem with Delay Activity in Sharepoint state machine workflow. This issue is kind of common to many people but so far I haven't come accross any working solution. In one of the workflow states, I want to add a delay activity to send email notification if no action is taken after certain time. Below is what I have done:   In the targeted state: 1) add one eventDriven activity to handle the normal process (approve the item) 2) add another eventDriven activity to send the reminder email. In this eventDriven activity, I first add a delayActivity, set it to 2 minutes for test purpose. Then I add a Sharepoint SentEmail activity.   With my test, the Dealy Activity is never invoked after timeout period. What should I do to make the delay activity work in the SharePoint state machine workflow? Is there any work around if the delay activity is simply not working there?   Any suggestions are appreciated.

Reuse XAML Declarative Workflow in Workflow Service (xamlx) Results in Server Error of System.Argume

We attempted to reuse a XAML (declarative activity workflow) in a few places within the same XAMLX and it doesn't appear to allow this.   On the WCF client side, it reported an obscure error of something to the effect of unknown message received and a communication error stating the service instance couldn't be used at this time and to ensure the call order is correct or order delivery guarantee is enabled.   However, this appears to mask the true issue which is on the server side.   Apparently, when the server side WCF end point is trying to start the workflow instance, it throws this error building a dictionary of workflow children...

webDAV not working post patch install

Hi, I installed the security patches (KB2416471 etc.) as advised which all went to plan.  I have multiple websites on the one webserver and using IIS 7's 'binding' to deliver up the correct website to users which all works post patch installs.  I use WebDAV from Expression Web 4 to publish the sites from my PC.  However post patch install I can no longer publish (connect) to the webserver using WebDAV.  I get the Expression Web message "There is no site named "<site name>"."

Has anybody else experienced this issue - any suggestions?

Approval workflow is not working as intended

I have set up a approval workflow based on the "approval"-workflowtemplate. I have selected to "Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item." - and thus applied content approval on the document library. When I then publish a major version the workflow is NOT started, but the "approve/reject"-option on the dropdown for the document appears. If I then select to approve the document, I get a notification, that "A content approval workflow is currently running to approve this item. If you continue this action, you will cancel the workflow". I then cancel the approve / reject, and  have a look at the "workflows"-option on the document, expecting to see a running workflow, but none is found. I cannot locate any tasks for the workflow either.

Any ideas? I need to notify an approver, but if the workflow isn't working, I can't notify the person.

Workflow 'Delete Item' not working

I'm trying to create a workflow in SharePoint Designer that is triggered on file creation in a document library that does some validation on the file name and would delete the file if it doesn't pass validation. We're using SharePoint Foundation.

I've tried deleting items without any of the other logic of the workflow in place (simply delete every file that is uploaded) but I've been getting the message "Error Occurred - The workflow could not delete the list item. Make sure the list exists and the user has permissions to delete items in the list" every time and had no success so far.

The SharePoint System Account and my own user have full control of the library (as well as site and site collection), and I have tried running the workflow with an impersonation step as well as just the normal setup. I can copy the current item to another library but again no luck deleting it. I've also tried deleting an already existing file in the same library when another file is uploaded in case it was file lock type thing, but that doesn't work either.

I'm wondering if this is a permissions issue somewhere in Central Admin, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Working with sub-workflow in rehosted designer?

Is it possible to work with a sub-workflow (i.e. subset of the workflow in the designer). For example a sequence, a flowchart, or any activity inside the workflow.

My idea is something like these:

  • Save the subworkflow to a file (for example, save the selected Sequence activity)
  • Load a saved subworkflow and add it into current workflow
  • Add a sub-workflow as an item in toolbox
Are these even possible?

Declarative constraint is not working on my imported child

Hi there,

Is declarative constraint works on the imported child? My scenario is I have a few custom activities, They are in one main container activity (sequence like custom activity also).  Some of the child activities are registered as implementation children, and some are registered as imported children. They both share the same validation logic using a declarative constraint approach.  The problem is the validation logic only work on those implementation child activities, not the imported child activities

code snippet here

 public sealed class MainProgram : NativeActivity
    protected override void CacheMetadata(NativeActivityMetadata metadata)

 public sealed class Call : NativeActivity
    public Call()

How to check whether the current workflow is valid? Is WorkflowDesigner.IsInErrorState() working?

How to check whether the current workflow hosted in a workflowdesigner is valid?

I tried calling WorkflowDesigner.IsInErrorState() everytime WorkflowDesigner. ModelChanged event fires.. but it always return false (ie no error) even though I see the red error sign in the designer!

SP designer Workflow stopped working

I have some workflows that are attached to a custom list and get triggered once a criteria is met. Once it's met the WF create a list item based of data of the current item(closed task regenerate a new one according to frequency) It works fine until today that a lot of the WF haven't fired up the new one. I've tested it myself and it didn't generated new one (When running the WF manually it's working properly), when I enter the WF history, I see no errors or trails.

How can I debug such a case?

Thanks a lot in advance

(VS workflow) actualTaskItemId = afterProps.TaskItemId is not working in createTask activity - why?

In my SP07 workflow, which is generated with VS08 I use custom email bodies to inform users about their tasks. Everything is working fine accept one issue:
The following line inside the createTask activity allways returns -1:
actualTaskItemId = afterProps.TaskItemId;

After I have created the task above line works fine in the following tasks.

What can I do to get the TaskItemId inside the CreateTask activity  in order to generate a correct custom email body?

Thank you very much indeed for helping me!

Field : Email Address

Find the List item :

Field : Functional VP:Organization

but above logic is not working. i guess this is correct but i dont know why and where it is goin wrong.

Working with SharePoint document libraries

Document libraries are collections of files that you can share with team members on a Web based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. For example, you can create a library of common documents for a project, and team members can use their Web browsers to find the files, read them, and make comments. Users with Microsoft Office 2003 can check out and edit the files as if they resided on a local or network drive.

By default, your team Web site comes with a built-in document library named Shared Documents, which is listed on the Quick Launch bar as well as on the Documents and Lists page.
