Grant "Edit" access throug field: "Assigned to"

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm new in Sharepoint programming, and I need help.

I have a task list, with advanced settings: Read Access: Only their own, Edit Access: Only their own. The admin persons have a full access to edit all created tasks. It is working fine for us, but I want to make a task list with sending - assigning task for another user, which one was created the task.

I want to give permissions for "Edit" task for user, which is in classic field "Assigned to".

It is possible throug Assigned to? Or it is possible through a Workflow?

I must let the settings for Reading: Only their own.

Thanks in advance.
Best regards

Looking for an alt way to access the "edit menu"

I have discovered that personal views do not "stick" when accessing the Properties with through the "Type (icon linked to document) ".  --if user is using a personal view and they access the properties and then go back, the view reverts to the default view.

If accessing Properties through :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  the Personal views remain.

I am trying to deemphasize the document names in the library I am developing.  Is there another way to give the end user access to the "Edit Menu" apart from the :"Name (linked to document with edit menu) "  ?

SharePoint leaving Assigned To field blank in a Workflow Task

We are having an issue with occasional Tasks being created by a WF that have a blank Assigned to field.  Solution consists of:

  1. A form with a People picker field that allows the user to select and validate the Authoriser name.
  2. An Auto-start-on-New SP Designer workflow runs that does a "Collect Data from User action" and assigns the Task to the Authoriser.

Unfortunately, although this worked fine during dev and test, now the solution is live and we are having 150-200 requests per day, we are finding that the WF occasionally fails to fill in the Assigned To details when it creates the Task. (approx 8 failures per 200 requests, ie 4%).

As SharePoint already has the User data field, I am confused why this might fail, and there is no obvious pattern (same auth, 4 work OK then 1 failure).
Does SP contact the AD again when it creates the Task?

Anything else I should investigate? any suggested fix / work-arounds?

"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. SharePoint 2007 to Access 2007 - Issues grouping by "Person or Group" field type/column

We are on SharePoint 2007 and using Access 2007.  The SharePoint list contains a column called Assigned Person, column type: Person or Group, single selection, displaying only the name 1) When we Open with Access and Export a copy of the data, then create a report from that table, we do not have the option to group on Assigned Person.  2) When we Open with Access and Link to data on the SharePoint site, then create a report from that list, when we group by Assigned Person... The same person has 2 groups - there are is no other grouping or sorts on the list, and i can't locate a correlation to another field to show why they would have to collections for the same person The Person or Group column sorts "from smallest to largest" as though it is a number field. The list is a task/activity tracking system we created custom for our needs.  We want to pull a weekly report, grouped by Assigned Person, but cannot get access to work.  We do not want to resort to anything more complex, as it takes a much longer process to have reports pulled by Chrystal or one of those types of applications.  And we cannot change out the field for something like a Choice column as the list already has a very large amount of content.  Can anyone assist? Is there a setting hiding somewhere that is causing the problem?

Access denied when trying to edit navigation.

I have a site collection that I am an administrator for which will give me a access denied error message when I try to edit the collections navigation. How can I fix this?Kevin W. Gagel

importing table with Access "memo" field to SQL

I imported an access database using the DTS wizard, into SQL 2005. There is a field in one of the Access tables that is a memo field, filled with a bunch of text including linebreaks. After importing, the field is indicated as the nvarchar(MAX) datatype when I check in SQL Enterprise Manager. The text in that field is displayed without line breaks, both in EM and when viewed on a web page. I changed the datatype of that column to "text" and now can see line breaks when I hover over a value in that column while viewing the table data in Visual Studio 2010's Server Explorer. But when I display the data in a ListView, there are no linebreaks. When I view my TableAdapter in my dataset, there are no linebreaks either.I must be missing something here? Thanks.

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.

Field in edit form

Hi all,

I have few fields in my edit form which only appear when the form is in edit mode. "Resolution Type" in service request form is one of them. I have another field that I want to behave the same way but I cant find a place that I can set this setting.

The settings I found only "optional", "hidden" and "required"

Any suggestions!
