Multiple connections at once

Posted By:      Posted Date: December 04, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello All,

I have a script that runs to send email's to a list of users in a database. To get the data, it actually makes several querys. I keep getting errors about the connection being already open, or not open, etc. Below is the code I am using now and the last error I have gotten. How can I clean this up and make sure it has a open connection when needed but not open and closing everytime and using too many resources.

Thank you

        If daily = "False" Then
                Dim strConn, strSQL As String
                strConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("EmailConnection").ToString
                strSQL = "SELECT name, email, basicday FROM email WHERE test='true'"
                Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, strConn)
                Dim emaillist As New DataSet
                da.Fill(emaillist, "email")
                If Not emaillist.Tables.Count = 0 Then
                    Dim sql As String
                    For Each dr As DataRow In emaillist.Tables(0).Rows
                            Basicday = CType(dr("basicday"), Integer)

InfoPath 2010, Multiple Repeating Sections have same name, Diff data connections using same SQL Serv

I've created an InfoPath 2010 form that has three Repeating sections and each one uses a different data connection but all three connections use the same table in SQL Server... "Accounts".  Now you might ask why I would do this? Well I need different sets of data in each section and it all resides in the same table in the repository. Also, sometimes one section will not have information and I do not want a bunch of blank fields displaying in the repeating section. So I split the data into separate sections. Now here is the challenge for you guru's out there. :) I want to use one column in the 3rd repeating section  to refer back to another column in the first repeating section.(for referential integrity) Unfortunately since they both use the same table in the database they possess the same name under advanced view:  myFields/dataFields "d_:Accounts". In fact all three of my repeating sections have the same name based upon the database table used in the data connection. In the SQL statement I attempted to rename each of the connections via the statement. I have not tried to give the table an alias in the statement yet. Will try that one next. 1. Is there a simple way to rename the repeating Section from "d_:Accounts" to something else so that  they are each unique? (Without using backend code as I've only used InfoPath/SP/S

Multiple Source connections in Configuration Table

 I am trying to query multiple servers for properties and record those properties in a table for later use.  I can make this work with the ForEachEnumerator by querying a table. However, I would like to use the Package Configurations option if I can instead.  Any options? Is there a way to force the package to loop through multiple values for one variable, contained in an SSIS configuration table?  Thanks in advance!

insert performance on sql server using multiple connections

Hi all,

I have a c++ code using ADO to do connection to sql server 2000. i want to find out whether using multiple connections can improve the insert performance. it seems like it does not improve any insertion performance, when i say performance i mean the time taken to insert into the database. I am current able to insert about 1000 entries / sec into the database. using 2 connections, i was expecting something like 2000 entries / sec. however the performance still stood at 1000 entries / sec.

using query analyzer, i did a simple test.

declare @i int
select @i = 1
while @i <= 10000
   insert into myTable (...) values (...)
   select @i = @i + 1

this took 40sec. but opening another session, the total time taken to insert 20000 entries in total took 80 sec.

are there any multi threading at SQL server??

Pls help. thanks

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

ASP.NET Multiple Selection DropDownList with AJAX HoverMenuExtender

Recently, I was looking for a multiple selection dropdownlist control for my new project. After spending some time researching for it, I decided to put together all my finding in one web user control. This web user control consists of an ASP.NET AJAX HoverMenuExtender, JavaScript, StyleSheet and CheckBoxListExCtrl . The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

>>>How to update multiple rows of gidview by one click

I want to add multiple rows of a gridview if the data for multiple fields are same.

Idea for this is that a user may search a record with some parameter e.g. Sector, plot.

For example 15 records being displayed in gridview.

There should be checkbox before every row and if user wants to update Plot and Flat No that is same for 10 rows out of 15 so he will check the rows and update.

For this a dialog box should appear asking for the parameter i.e. Plot and Flat or something else next time may be it will be City or country. Moreover, there is already an Edit button to update records, when user click it another page open for the record to be updated and whatever he wants to update, it updates.

Hope everone understand the scenario.

I don't want to disturb the already provided Edit functionality and want to provide same record to be updated.

Any idea in this regard would be appreciated.

Multiple membership providers

In my web.config I have:

        <add name="ADProvider1"
        <add name="ADProvider2"

If I just have ADProvider1 it works, when I add ADProvider2, even though for testing I only use ADProvider1 I get an error: "Unable to establish secure connection with the server"

Am I adding the second provider to the membership section incorrectly?

Error: Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing...TlbImp

Hi!  Can someone tell me how I can troubleshoot the following error: "Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing one of these assemblies".

The website developed in VS 2010 (.Net 3.5). This error is only received on my workstation.  Another person developing the site does not experience this issue at all.  Also, not sure if this matters, but on my workstation the 'Assembly Information...' dialog contains no values even though the 'AssemblyInfo.vb' file does specify values for the title, desc, etc.  The GUID being referenced in the error is the main project of the three projects within the solution.

I tried looking through the GAC, but do not see any references to the projects or DLLs in the VS solution and am not sure what else/where to look.

If I delete the copy of the solution on my local machine and pull down a copy from source control (AnkhSVN) the solution will build with no error.  Once I make any changes, such as adding a new aspx file, then the error is received.

I can provide any additional information needed.

one or multiple dbmls

I have two database connections that connect to two separate SQL severs.  The connection strings are stored in a separate ConnectionStrings.config file  I have the following in my Web.config

<connectionStrings configSource="ConnectionStrings.config" />

I use LINQ to SQL and a DBML file is created.  I finished dragging and dropping tables from the first db.  When switched to the second connection and try to drag and drop tables to the surface, I got a warning "The objects you are adding to the designer use a different data conneciton than the designer is currently using.  Do you want to replace the conneciton used by the designer?".  Should I add a second DML and drag and drop the tables from the second db so I don't get problems with multiple connections?  If say Person is a class in the first DBML and PersonPrivacyContent is on the second DMBL.  How could I associate these two classes?  If only one DBML is needed, how do I switch between two connections and execute LINQ queries in each db?  Thank you.
