SharePoint Search Not Returning Results

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

My SharePoint search is not returning results for anything but people. I'm not seeing any errors in the ULS log and my index contains rough 27,000 documents. What could be the problem? Where can I look for details that could shed some light on why there are no results being returned?

SharePoint Server 2010 Search - not returning results but crawling without errors

I have created a Search Service Application on a SharePoint Server 2010 (RTM) Farm and used the default Content Source. I started a Full Crawl and it suceeded with no errors etc. I ran it a few times and no issues. But if I go to the Intranet Portal Web Appliaction and do a search for a document that would have been crawled it does not show up in search results...nothing does. I am not getting any errors in Event Log or ULS Logs relevant to Search. How can I troubleshoot this problem further?SharePoint Solution Architect, Perth Australia - Microsoft Virtual Technology Specialist - MCTS WSS Dev, WSS Adm, MOSS Dev, MOSS Adm - http://wss.made4the.net/ - Founder of http://www.sharepointdevwiki.com/

Why is SharePoint people search returning the same results as all sites search?

Hello

I've been having issues with the people search in that it doesn't return any results and the scope is 0.

I deleted the scope and recreated it adding the rule contentclass = urn:content-class:SPSPeople with behaviour : require but now when i search for people it seems to search everything not just people profiles. Please can someone tell me what I have done wrong when I recreated the scope? The scope still cant crawl the profiles but I'd like to at least get back to where i was before!!

Thanks
Sarah

Search query returning 0 results

I'm using a query which returns 0 results but was working some weeks ago.  I checked the code and nothing has changed since then.  I created a Search Center Site on another port and using the same terms I get many results there.  I checked my scopes and they are all right. Nothing changed there either. Could someone help me figure out what may be the problem in my query.  Or maybe it's my Scopes/Content Sources configuration. SELECT URL, FileName, Title, Description, Rank, Size, HitHighlightedSummary, Path FROM SCOPE() WHERE freetext(defaultproperties, ' +légumes')  AND ( "scope" = 'Scope - My Portal - All Site - fr'  )    ORDER BY Rank DESCDaniel Siconnelli There is neither good nor evil... only mogwais and gremlins

Sharepoint 2010 Search No Results

I am unsure about who the Search Services should be running under. I am getting no results returned from Sharepoint after doing full successful crawl. I have not installed Fast Search, just going through the Search box on the site. For Services, I have Sharepoint Server Search 14[Server admin account] and Sharepoint Foundation Search V4[Server admin account] both started. The full crawl only takes about 2 minutes. When I changed the account to [local system] for both of these services, it was still going at 1 hour and 40 minutes when I stopped the crawl. I assume that the local system is not the account to run it under? The site only has about 20 documents on it right now.

SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express returns no search results for non-admin users

This is going to sound crazy, but anyway... bare with me... I have a SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express (RTM) installed with a crawl account (call it sharepoint_crawl) which has full read permission to an entire site collection of 100,000 documents. I have logged in with this account to make sure it has read access to everything, and it does. I run a full crawl of all documents and allow it to finish. If I try and search the content for an extremely common term (i.e. 50,000+ hits) I get no results. However, if I log in with a site collection admin I do get search results. There are no indexing errors or query errors in either log files or event log. Everything looks like it is working correctly - just no results for non-admins Anyone tripped on this? I have recreated the crawl account and perform a full re-index with the same results. What gets me is that the crawl account does have read permission to the content it is indexing, the content is indexed correctly, but the crawl account cannot get results back. It is as if security-trimming is removing everything. Any ideas?

MOSS Search Not Returning Results from A List

Hello All,   Problem: The MOSS Search is not returning results from a subsite (and list within it). It however returns results for most of the other sites in the web application. Environment: 2 Application Servers. One of these is the index and query server. The same server is also the search server for the content databases. 5 web front end servers. Other Notes: The MOSS installation has several web applications. We however have one site within it that is not returning the required results. The results that we are looking for are located in a particular list. When one searches against the items in the list, some appear and others do not. We also get results from RSS feeds that track changes to the list in the last week. Also, some of the results returned are links to the new item in the list (that is, when you click on new to create a new item). There are no search errors in the application log. The web application was recently upgraded from WSS 3.0 on a single server to MOSS 2007 in a server farm. There are no sql index errors. The WSS Search and Office Search Services are working and have been restarted. The credentials have also been re-entered. We get less than 20 errors in the crawl logs (out of close to 800k docs). I have checked the rights for the default content access account, and it has dbo rights to the content db and search db. It also has read (and now admin

Sharepoint Search Service is running but no results

Hi,   I am new in working with Sharepoint. I recently installed the sharepoint foundation 2010 on a windows server 2008 machine. The sharepoint installed properly and the Sites are working fine. But I just cannot make the Sharepoint Search feature (using the search from the search bar). It always returns no results found. The Sharepoint foundation Search service is started. Also I cannot find the "Search Service" link under the Manage Service applications tab. Did I do anything wrong while installing Sharepoint. Also it will be very helpful if someone can point to a resource where the details about the Search Installation process and working is explained. Thanks

Search in SharePoint 2010 does not show results for all users other than the timer service account

I have setup a new SharePoint 2010 setup. Created Search Service application and configured. Confirmed that the crawl went fine without any error for both Local site and a file share. In the Search application i confirmed that the All Site scope shows 3890 items.

ISSUE: If any of the user [including site collection administrator] browses the site and try to search something it does NOT show result [No error either it says We did not find any results for .....]. All Site scopes does not show 3890 items but only 28.

But if the timer service account [system account] logs in the site and does the search it works fine. With this account loggd in if i check the All Site scopes i do see 3890 items.

This does seems to be some thing to do with the permission, but i am not able to get hint where the mistake is.

I have done the follow till now.

> I checked the application association is correct
> Created a new web application and confirmed that the issue exists there as well
> Checked ULS log but dont see any error related to this.
> No relavent event id in Application event viewer

Sharepoint 2010 Search Results crawling content on Quick Launch

I have a custom search scope defined for a site.  When I search, it is returning results for text that it is finding on the quick launch menu.  (For example, if the listname 'Tickets' is on the Quick Launch and the user searches for 'Tickets', all of the pages in the site get returned because the word 'Tickets' is on the Quick Launch)

Is this correct?  Is there any way to override that?

Sharepoint Foundation is giving no search results

My situation :

I installed 2 new WFE servers with SharePoint Foundation 2010 on Server 2008 R2 Standard. The Database is running on a SQL 2008 R2 cluster with a dedicated instance for SharePoint. I've prepared the new environment for the db restore from my old wss 3 environment.

I took a back-up of the WSS_Content DB from my WSS 3 environment and Resotored this on the new instance for the new SharePoint Foundation environment. Using the stsadm i've attached the WSS_Content DB to the new webapplication that i have created.

Im able to brouwse the new environment with my old content, everything works fine exapt, SEACH ; givings me no results.

The SharePoint Foudation Seach Serivice is running on my 1st WFE server and i have added this server as the defauls search server for the WSS_Content DB. I have used domain user accounts for the Sharepoint Seach service and Crawl account.

I did those steps twice but seach still not working! Hope someone can help me!

ps; sorry for my bad English.

Sharepoint Search finding no results for some users

Alright I've been at this one for days now so I'm pleading that someone can help me out. The crawler is working just fine, indexing over 30,000 items. I can search just fine with my account. My account is a domain admin, site collection owner, and full site owner. Domain users who are site members receive a "No results matching your search were found."

I'm completely lost- I one of my end users a domain admin, secondary site collection admin, and site owner and they still cannot query results. I made sure they have access to everything on the site including all permissions for the search center. I've tried reseting the index and using the end users own account to recrawl/reindex which succeeded. However still no results found when doing a search. I've tried changing the search service log on accounts to other domain accounts as well to no avail. Anyone have any ideas or troubleshooting steps that would guarantee search is setup correctly? Like I said, my user account is able to perform searches and recieve results but I cannot figure out what permission my account has over the other end user account I assigned permissions to.

Another thing to note is that this was a standalone MOSS 2007 upgrade to 2010. All prerequisits were installed and the upgrade went smoothly.

Please help!
