Using SQL Server 2008 R2 client with Enterprise Library

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am modifying an existing application that uses SQL Server 2008 as the database and Enterprise Library 4.1 for Data Access .

What I need to do is to make it use the SQL Server 2008 R2 client to take advantage of out of the box failover capabilities.

Any idea how I can accomplish this?

Upgrade SQL server 2008 R2 from Evaluation Edition to Enterprise Edition

Hello SQL Support group, I have SQl server 2008 R2 installed on a Win 2003 R2 and it is for our SharePoint and Project server 2007 environment. Today I noticed that we have only 75 days left! Seems like we installed it on evaluation mode. Here what we have on Helpàabout : Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Complete (expires in 75 days)    10.50.1352.12 We do have MSDN account, and we have the KEY that comes with the SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise. We would like to assign the key to our SQl server ( we want to have enterprise edition). It is in a production environment now. I would like to know how we can do it  with minimum of down time. I found this link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sqlman/archive/2010/03/16/sql-server-2008-upgrading-to-standard-enterprise-edition-from-evaluation-edition.aspx On the internet, but doesn’t say anything that we are losing any data after upgrade or not. Please let us know the best way to assign the key, and if it has any impact in our data. Thanks Bahram

Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

SQL Server 2008 performance: Decision to spend budget to upgrade to enterprise edition

Hi, Currently, we use SQL Server 2008 standard edition. We are planning to improve the performance of our application. The application is built by 3rd party and we can’t change/modify database objects and they seem to be designed fine. The options are spending our budget to upgrade to sql server hardware, or upgrade to SQL Server Enterprise edition. I am a bit confused over the benefits of SQL Server Enterprise edition. The following chart suggests that SQL EE includes “Parallel Index Operations” and “Enhanced Read-ahead and Scan”: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/editions-compare.aspx  How significant are “Parallel Index Operations” and “Enhanced Read-ahead and Scan”? Considering the fact that new hardware is cheaper than sql enterprise license, Should I spend budget to upgrade enterprise edition instead of buying as server with faster CPU and RAM? Thank you, Max

Slow sql-server after upgrade from SQL-Server 2005 x64 standard to SQL-Server 2008 R2 x64 enterprise

We moved our databases to new hardware today (using copy database wizard)

The new hardware should be better than the old one.

We went from 28 GB ram to 128 GB.

We went from 16 cores to 32 cores (with even more cache etc.). We also moved from external SAN with 40 disks to intern disks (8 Samsung SS805 100gb ssd slc)

According to our own metrics we could get twice the IO using IO m

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Installation Problem

Good evening!

I downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition (x86 and x64) from MSDNAA (i study computer science) and also  Windows 7 Professional (x86). I installed Windows 7 and i tried to install SQL Server but i receive the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed. SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework 3.5 to be installed." error. I tried installing .NET Framework but it doesn't work because it's installed by default with Windows 7 (i checked the "Turn Windows features on or off" page and the "Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1" checkbox is checked). I understand that this means .NET framework 3.5 SP1 is also installed so i shouldn't have any errors.

Can anyone help me with this installation problem?

Thank you!

SQL Server 2008 client very slow on new Win7 PC

I installed SQL Server 2008 Management Studio on a brand new PC (HP ProBook 6540b with an i5 CPU and 2GB RAM) running Windows 7 x86. A script that runs some stored procedures on a Windows 2008 x64 server (also SQL 2008) and which returns about 10 result sets takes a fraction of a second on our old PC's, including one that runs Windows 7 (the rest are XP and Vista). But on this PC, it takes 30 seconds! I installed the client tools the same way as always, and applied SP1. I disabled the Windows Firewall and anti virus, and then disabled the Aero interface, and it is still slow (now about 15 seconds). Non-SQL functions are faster, e.g. copying files over the network is almost 3x faster than on my old PC, so there doesn't seem to be a general speed problem with the PC.

Do I need to change any settings for Windows 7? I ran the configuration manager, but the settings look the same as on the old PC. I disabled shared memory (I think this is just for a local database server?), but this made no difference.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Can I install SQL 2008 on a server running SQL 2005 to install Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise (Productio

Sharepoint 2010 Upgrade Question - A customer is currently running sharepoint 2007 on a 64bit windows 2003 OS with SQL 2005 sp2, they are looking to install/upgrade to Sharepoint 2010 and want to use the current SQL server, for the upgrade a new SharePoint 2010 environment will be built and for a short while they will have two instances of SharePoint running SP2007 and SP2010. The plan is to then manually migrate the data from SP2007 to SP2010 (ENT), the web and application servers will be newly built. From research I think they have three options

1) Upgrade the current SQL 2005(SP2) instance to SQL 2008 R2 standard.

2) Install a new instance of SQL 2008 R2 on the same server and have both SQL 2005 & SQL 2008 running on the same server (Is this an option? Will sharepoint happily run from a SQL server running two SQL instances, do I have to be careful regarding the installation and configuration, could I break the existing sharepoint farm doing this?)

3) Upgrade the current SQL server to SP3 and install a new instance of SQL 2005 SP3 and install SharePoint 2010 Enterprise here, again I have all the questions from point 2 above.

We are thinking of trying option 1, then 2, then 3, and obviously only moving to the next option if we come across a show stopper. H

Applying SP1 to 2008 Enterprise SQL Server

Dear users,

I ran REPAIR and it ran successfully. After that I applied SP1 but got a below error at the first page

TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

"A failure was detected for a previous installation, patch, or repair for instance 'XXXXXXXX' during configuration for features [MPT_AGENT_CORE_CNI,]. In order to apply this patch package (KB968369), you must resolve any issues with the previous operation that failed. View the summary.txt log to determine why the previous operation failed."

 Error code 0x84B20001.

Could you advise what to do?

Thank you,
