SQL Server is waiting for an internal operation to complete

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 25, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

When saving a database diagram, SQL Server 2005 frequently "hangs" for an indeteminate amount of time and displays the message "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete. If you regularly encounter this delay during normal usage, pelase report this problem to Microsoft."

For one thing, this is an extremely lame and unhelpful message, as it gives no clue as to specifically *who* to report the problem to (Microsoft is pretty big, after all), and an "internal operation" is sufficiently ambiguous to mean anything.

I cannot find any references to this problem, and it happens frequently enough that I'm finding it very difficult to use Management Studio for editing diagrams. When this problem occurs, the "hang" sometimes last for several minutes, but frequently last longer than 20 minutes, after which I simply kill the process in Task Manager.

I have also experienced the problem when simply saving table modifications, though less frequently than with diagram edits.

Does anyone know what causes this, or have any resolution for the problem?

Thanks!

Convert .docx to web page - "the converter cannot complete the task because an internal error occurr

Hi,

I'm trying to convert docx files to webpages to be published in to a library elsewhere on our sharepoint site. At first I was having no problem, the files were converting, however more recent files have returned the error: the converter cannot complete the task because an internal error occurred

I've tried writing, uploading and converting a simple docx file, and this works which has led me to believe that the problem is something in the docx files that i'm trying to convert. So i tried using word07 to clean the documents up by clicking Office button>prepare>inspect document then removing all the metadata, custom xml etc from the files resave, upload and convert, but still no joy.

I'd simply rewrite the document but the problem is that there are a lot of them.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

Thanks

RDL Rendering (500 Internal Server) Error at Sharepoint Integrated Reporting Service

I have a serious problem that cannot be solved by googling around the keywords below:
sharepoint, moss 2007, reporting service, ssrs 2008, rendering, internal server error, ....

The error is;

"An error occurred during client rendering. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. "

Everything is O.K.;

* When I render the report from the REPORTSERVER (http://localhost/ReportServer)
* When the reports are scheduled to be sent by the reporting service (planned via MOSS 2007)

But if I open (render) the RDL file from the sharepoint REPORTS LIBRARY interface, all of the reports fail with that internal error message above.

It is weird also that parametrized reports are displayed without errors although the parameters are queried from a sql dataset. But I got the error when rendering the report after I've chosen a parameter  and order "apply/report"...

Possible causes how I met that error may be;

After I have installed (then uninstalled) AJAX extensions
After I have re-configured IIS Web Service Extensions list items

Possible solution alternatives I've found;

I've found a solution on MSDN replying a similar issue with an ideal cause of the error but an evreka answer but no sol

Solution deployment requires executing execadmsvcjobs command on search server to complete deploymen

We have multiple Sharepoint 2007 farms and deploy custom code weekly to the farms. On one o the farms it is required to run stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs on the Search server in the farm in order for solution deployments to complete deploying. These are solution recycles that we are running. This is the only farm this happens on and all farms are identical. In central admin it shows the solution state as deploying. Internal Error 500 and The Report Server Not Responding

I'm about to give up the ghost here.. I've got Reporting Services installed, the IIS default website is accessible, and it appears the virtual directories "Reports" and "ReportServer" are there, but when I try to access either of these paths via a browser I get the following: Reports - "The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer." ReportServer - Internal Error 500 When reviewing the logs I see this: "w3wp!ui!7!9/1/2010-11:13:39:: e ERROR: The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer. w3wp!ui!7!9/1/2010-11:13:40:: e ERROR: HTTP status code --> 500" I've tried the start stop of ReportServices and IIS...no good... I've checked all permissions and can't seem to find any that are lacking...  I'm running this on SQL Server 2005 (64bit edition), on a Windows 2008 R2 server... any help would be appreciated... I'm getting gray hairs as I type this :-)   Jill

Msg 8624, Level 16, State 13 - Internal SQL Server error.

Hi, I have a weird T-SQL 80 query full of nested subqueries full of aggregations tha thas been embedded in a view. if I do select * from the view I get: Server: Msg 8624, Level 16, State 13 Internal SQL Error.  If I run the same block of code from the query analyzer it runs fine. Also if I wrap exactly the same code in a SP it runs fine. I'm running this on a SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP4 8.00.2282. + I turned on the following Trace Flags: 3614, 9052, 9054, 9056, 9057, 9185, 9256. If I restore the same DB on a SQL Server 2005 and do the same select * it runs fine. So I'm getting the Error 8624 only on my SQL 2000 Standard edition  SP4 8.00.2282. Another thing I dont understand is also: why I can compile the view but if I try to visualize even the query plan I get the same error?!? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you. Internal Server Error Exception when Searching (in CoreResultsWebPart::OnInit)

Hello, We are encountering an "Internal server error exception" when we attempt to search. The relevant error in the ULS log is:   CoreResultsWebPart::OnInit: Exception initializing: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.     at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.WebControls.CoreResultsWebPart.SetPropertiesOnQueryReader()     at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.WebControls.CoreResultsWebPart.OnInit(EventArgs e)   This is occurring on a fresh install of SharePoint Server 2010 Standard Edition running on a single-server farm.  We have tried:   ensuring that hotfix 976462 is installed (it is) ensuring that the "SharePoint Server Search" and "Search Query and Site Settings Service" services are running (they are) removing, then reinstalling the search application (tried, but with no luck) appending ":80" to the host of portion of the search result url to see if we get a different result (we do not) ensuring that the application pool is assigned correctly (it is) restarting the timer service restarting the search service rebooting For the sake of conversation, we'll say the server is named "pharaoh". It has the following AAMs: http://pharaoh:8888, Default Zone  (Central Admin) http://pharaoh, Default Zone   All services and applicati

SQL Server 2008 Internal error at ExecuteSqlCmd

On a version of SQL Server 2008 with Service Pack 1 applied (on Windows Server 2003), I am finding that when trying to run a bulk number of jobs using the sqlcmd command, one of the jobs will randomly fail to run with the following error thrown in the command window: Sqlcmd: Error: Internal error at ExecuteSqlCmd (Reason: Unspecified error). I've found that each time the batch of jobs is run, a different one will fail to run each time.  It seems to be completely random which one will fall over, but you can guarantee that at least one will fall over each time. I've tried numerous websites to find an answer and no luck so far.  There is a hotfix which has been released for this exact same problem (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2121407/) but this is only for R2 and so cannot be applied to my installation and we're not in a position to move to R2 as yet. Is there a fix available for non R2 users for this?

"The Server could not complete your request" on trying to connect to a site or create a new site wit

I am trying out SharePoint Designer 2010 on windows 2008 with SharePoint 2010 beta installed. When I try to connect to a site or create a new site I get the error: "The server could not complete your request.  For more specific information, click the Details button." When I clicked the Details button it says "Object moved" on one line then on the next it says "Object moved to here". I wanted to see the new workflow stuff but I cannot connect to a site.

How to access server/share resources from an internal/intranet Web Part?

We are a team of native-client/webforms developers who have been tasked with developing an internal intranet SharePoint system for our team. We want a WebPart that displays sets of files on internal shares, allows selection of subset(s), and then downloads the files to the local machine. Basically it's a builds/test-artifacts/documents "getter" scenario. We created less elaborate web sites that do somethihng like this (as proof of concept.) However, no matter what we do with our WebPart, it will not allow access to non-local(host) shares, files, etc. The WebPart CAN access said shares/files when the entire thing - client (IE session) and debug[ger/gee] etc - are run on a single dev box. However, when we attempt to run the client on a different machine accessing the dev box (in a server role), the code cannot access the network resources (for example, File.Exists() and Directory.Exists() fail.) How can we make this work?

MS Message Queueing 4.0 HTTP Support - 500 Internal Server Error

Hi all,   I've been trying to set up MSMQ 4.0 with HTTP Support to allow one of our partners to send messages to us. However, whenever I make any call to the msmq page I get an internal server error 500 (See below). My platform is Windows 2008 SE (64-bit) running as a DC (though MSMQ is running in workgroup mode).   Any hints on what might be causing this or how I can investigate further? Are there any log files for the ISAPI extension, or the MQISE.dll, or the MSMQ service that might help me shed light on this problem?   I've seen blogs about an issue with MSMQ 3.0 where the machine name can't be 15 characters long, is this still the case with MSMQ 4.0?   The error details are as below,     Server Error in Application "WWW.MYDOMAIN.COM/MSMQ" Internet Information Services 7.0 HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, so it cannot be displayed. Detailed Error Information  Module IsapiModule Notification ExecuteRequestHandler Handler AboMapperCustom-113521 Error Code 0x8007007e Requested URL http://www.mydomain.com:80/msmq Physical Path c:\inetpub\www.mydomain.com\msmq Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous The path to the ISAPI Filter is incorrect. IIS received the request; however, an internal error occurred during the processing
