Stored Data Source Credentials in Report Builder 3.0

Hello,

I have setup a SQL Reporting Services 2008 R2 server which contains data sources that connect to databases on a remote SQL 2008 server.  In the data source the connection string is defined and "Connect using:" is set to "Credentials Stored Securely in the Report Server", I have entered the credentials required to connect to the remote SQL 2008 server where the database resides and there is no problem when I choose "Test Connection".

When I access the Report Builder through the SSRS website and create a new report I can add the data source to the report without an issue.  When I try to create a new dataset and specify to "Use a dataset embedded in my report" I can choose the data source but when I try to then open the Query Designer I am prompted to enter the credentials for the data source.  The username I saved in the data source on the Reporting Server seems to default in however the password does not.

I see on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159736.aspx) the following:

"You can specify a single set of stored credentials that a report server uses to access external data for a report. Stored credentials are used if the report runs unattended. The report server retrieves and uses the credent

The report cannot be opened because the data source associated with it is not a report model.

hi,

i tried to open a report i created in sql business intelligence development studio in the report builder in wss3 and it gave me this error:

Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportBuilder.ReportModel.Report: The report 'http://servername:port#/Reports/report.rdl' cannot be opened because the data source 'http://servername:port#/DataSource Library/datasource.rsds' associated with it is not a report model.

This report was not created in Report Builder. Try opening this report in Report Designer instead.

can i fix this so i can open my reports in report builder?

thnx

MDW Disk Usage for Database Report Error - A data source has not been supplied for the data source D

Hello, On the MDW Disk Usage Collection Set report, I get the following error when I click on a database hyperlink. A data source has not been supplied for the data source DS_TraceEvents SQL profiler shows the following SQL statements are executed (I've replaced the database name with databaseX) 1. exec sp_executesql N'SELECT dtb.name AS [Name] FROM master.sys.databases AS dtb WHERE (dtb.name=@_msparam_0)',N'@_msparam_0 nvarchar(4000)',@_msparam_0=N'databaseX' this returns zero rows as databaseX does not exist on my MDW central server, but is a database on a target server (i.e. one that is being monitored and uploaded into the MDW central server). 2. USE [datatbaseX] this produces the following error: Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Database 'databaseX' does not exist. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. why is the report looking for the database on my server? thanks Jag Environment: MDW (Management Data Warehouse) on SQL 2008 R2

Report Builder Report manage data sources - relink programmatically

As part of a site definition solution several report builder report rdl files are uploaded to a report folder.  After a site is created with the defintion, the reports must be manually re-linked to the data source through the UI context menu ("Manage Data Sources").  I have been trying to figure out how to do the re-linking programmatically without luck.  Any ideas? ( Reporting Services is configured as integrated with sharepoint)

Data Source View Gives incorrect Error--Different Data Type

Hi, I'm creating a report model (2008 R2).  I am trying to create a relationship between two tables.  One FKs to another--same name and type (tinyint) columns.  But the Data Source View editor doesn't allow this, giving the message "...source and destination column have different data types".  But the columns are the same types.  I ahd this once before  acouple of years ago and don't remember how I got around it. Does anyong have ideas?

Sharepoint list as Report Data Source

My current environment is Sharepoint 2007 with SSRS 2008 in Sharepoint Integrated Mode. SSRS 2008 uses trusted authentication to communicate to Sharepoint 2007. Sharepoint 2007 is configured to use NTLM authentication (configured with a domain account). My settings within Central Admin are Authentication Type: Windows IIS authentication settings: Integrated windows authentication with NTLM. My question is: Do I need to configure Sharepoint to use kerberos to use Sharepoint Lists as a Report Data Source?

Setting Local Report Data Source

I am a college professor and am updating my undergraduate database course to use Reporting Services as the reporting tool.  The student labs cannot run IIS so I assume that using server-based reports is out and am looking at using local reports and the VB ReportViewer control. For several reasons (waaayyy too long to list here) I do not wish to use the drag-and-drop datasets that seem to be the core of the ADO.Net 2005 architecture.  Instead I prefer to create connections, commands, and datasets in code and to set data binding and manage data updates in code.  All command objects map to SQL Server stored procedures. I need to be able to do the same thing with reporting services local reports but have run into a brick wall in getting the report and/or report viewer to recognize a dataset table created in code. I would like to do the following (which worked very well in VB 2003 using Crystal Reports): 1. Design report--I am willing to accept the requirement to manually set the Value property of controls since I don't want to set data sources to .xsd files. 2. Instantiate a report object at run time and set it's data source to a dataset table.  The underlying query that fills the table would have to contain all columns needed by the report's controls. 3. Set the report object to be the LocalReport for a ReportViewer control. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or walk-through tha

Status of Accessing Nested Objects in Data Source of Local Report Does Not Function

We recently upgraded out platform to .NET 4.  We are also using Microsoft Reporting dlls.  Unfortunately, we found that the upgrade broke all of our reports.  Researching the cause, we found this article:

https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/553592/accessing-nested-objects-in-data-source-of-local-report-does-not-function

It seems that this issue has been open for some time now and I have not seen a good workaround (except for the shim class which is not really feasible for us).  Can I please get a status update for this?  Is there some other type of resolution?

Thank you,

Report Builder Filter shows Field as Date Type =Text instead of Date

My Data was created by retrieving ODBC data - using PowerPivot for Excel 2010, and has Birthdate defined as a Data Type = "Date".  This was uploaded to SharePoint, and a New Dataset was created to point at it.

I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0.  I tried to filter this data on Birthdate, but when I go into the Filter, and specify the field that was defined as DataType = "Date" in PowerPivot - Report Builder changes the type to "Text", and gray's out the field so that I can't change it to "Date".

If I create an Expression as Cdate(Birthdate.Value), it lets me change the Data Type to "Date", and works appropriately, but we don't want to have to do this with every date field.

Why doesn't Report Builder see this field as a Date ?

How can you debug a report data source that is an XML web service?

I have a report that is using an XML web service as it's datasource.  I would like to know what parameter

values the report is passing to the web service.

I tried the following debugging process but it did not work.

1.  Set the Reporting Services Project as the Starting Project.

2.  Set the report as the startitem in the project's startitem property.

3.  Set a breakpoint in the web service.

4.  I started the debugging which opened the report.  I put in a parameter value and ran the report.

But the debugger did not stop at the breakpoint.  What am I doing wrong?

How can I know what parameter values are being passed to the web service?

Thanks,

Lloyd

Data source not found issue in subscribed report (subscribed in ssrs 2005) , with shared data source

Recently we have upgraded from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008. Following is the issue am facing in some reports in SSRS 2008. More details are below. Any solution/ cause for the issue would be of great help.

 1) Reports having issue are the ones which were deployed in SSRS 2005 through SUBSCRIPTION (Listed under My Subscriptions) and now tried to view in SSRS 2008.

2) The reports use a shared data source with name ‘Test Center’

3) After upgrading to 2008 and when we try to open the report data source not found error is thrown. “An error occurred during client rendering. An error has occurred during report processing. The data source ‘Test_Center’ cannot be found". Why does it have ‘_’ added in the data source name !!

4) When we go to the report Properties – Data sources and check the path of the shared data source, the path is correct and the data source do exists in the path.

5) If we go to report Properties – General – Report Definition – select Edit and save the RDL. Immediately select Update and browse the saved RDL and upload. The report works fine. However the data source reference still remains same.

6) Also if we deploy a report fresh referring the same data source, that too runs fine with no issues.

- Thanks & Regards, RaSuHe
