Microsoft.NET version 3.0 Install Error: Installation failed for Windows Communication Foundation. M

Please help! I've been trying for the last day and a half to properly install Microsoft.NET version 3.5 so that I can install TurboTax and do my taxes. I was only on version 1.1. Multiple tries to upgrade to 3.5 was giving me a code 1603 error on install on "Microsoft.NET version 2.0a". I followed advice from forums here and elsewhere to uninstall and reinstall my prior versions. I also used Windows Install Cleanup before reinstalling. I keep getting to the same result when I try to go from version 2.0 to version 3.5. In my last attempt, I went all the way back to version 1.0 and installed each step up to 2.0 SP1 with (allegedly) no problems. This last time I decided to upgrade to 3.0 instead of going right to 3.5. Now I get the following error message: [04/03/10,04:07:14] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. Windows Identity Foundation Security Token Service can't stay logged in

I'm using the Windows Identity Foundation **(WIF)** Security Token Service **(STS)** to handle authentication for my application which is working all well and good. However I can't seem to get any long running login with the STS. From my understanding I shouldn't care about the client tokens at the application level since they can expire all they want to and it should redirect me to the STS and as long as they're still logged in on the STS it should refresh their application token. Yet it doesn't seem to want to keep them signed in. Here's what occurs in my login.aspx on the STS var cookie = FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie(userName, persistTicket); if (persistTicket) cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(14); Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); var returnUrl = Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"]; Response.Redirect(returnUrl ?? "default.aspx"); Which was taken almost directly from existing application using normal Forms Auth. From my web.config <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="2880" name=".STS" path="/" requireSSL="false" slidingExpiration="true" defaultUrl="default.aspx" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" enableCrossAppRedirects="false" /> </auth

Error installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 machine

HI all, I'm installing the Developer edition of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (downloaded today) on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit virtual machine (using VMWare Workstation 6.5).  Yesterday I had tried MS SQL Server 2008 R0 with the same results.  Both give an error about 30% into the installation process: "An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'VSLangProj80,Version="8.0.0.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="8.0.50727.1826"' When I click the OK button, the install rolls that last bit back and then continues.  Unfortunatly I didn't take a screenshot of the main install window, just the error window. Any ideas what this error means?  The install yesterday seemed to work, but I'm not through the R2 install yet.  The R0 install also failed to install the documentation for some reason (I left it running during the night) Note that I have VS2010 (original release plus downloaded updates) installed and then just some small stuff like Snagit and Skype on this VM.  I updated Windows 7 completely before I started installing R2 so it is completely up to date as of midnight! Or is my installation somehow corrupted? And what is this web part and how can I register it as safe?

After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

domain/user is a domain administrator and also a local administrator and is the currently logged in user.  This failure is happening as part of A Citrix XenApp 6.0 configuration which was started as an Administrator

A Google search for
"The Windows account" "does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator"
Came up with absolutely nothing.

A Google search for -2068578304 failed to find anything, which did not surprise me.

-2068578304 translates into hex as 84B40000.

A Google search for 84B40000

Comes up with a fair few different textual descriptions with the same error code, which I am wading through.

Any help would be welcome.  I am also asking my friends at Citrix.

With thanks in advance.

Error in installing .Net framework 3.5 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows XP

Hi all,

I tried to install .Net framework 3.5 downloaded from microsoft on a Windows XP  SP2 machine.
With .Net Framework Verifier, I verified the frameworks 1.1. SP1 and 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2 to be OK.

The framework 3.5 installs without error message.
However, the verification gives an error:
[04/23/09,17:14:42] Detected operating system: Windows XP (x86)
[04/23/09,17:14:53] File C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\WPF\XamlViewer\XamlViewer_v0300.exe is not installed on the system
[04/23/09,17:14:53] File C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\WPF\XamlViewer\XamlViewer_v0300.exe.manifest is not installed on the system
[04/23/09,17:14:53] File C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.0\WPF\XamlViewer\XamlViewer_v0300.xbap is not installed on the system
[04/23/09,17:14:54] Verification failed for product .NET Framework 3.5

Then the installation of Framework 3.5 SP1 breaks off with the following error:

[04/23/09,17:45:59] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 'package': [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 'package'. MSI returned error code 1603
[04/23/09,17:46:17] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 'package' is not installed.

Error Installing Sql Management Studio 2008 on 64 Bit Windows 7

I am getting the following message when I try to install SQL Management Studio on a 64 bit Windows 7 Premium Dell Laptop.

The message is: Sqlserver 2008 Setup requires Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 SP1 to be installed.

I have downloaded the Service pack and attempted to install as Adminstrator  (Dotnetfx35setup.exe).   It comes up and asks if I want to run it, but nothing ever loads.     I don't know if a registry setting is conflicting with the installation or what.

This computer came with Vista Home Premium 64bit and we installed the upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (in case this has something to do with it.)   I have 2008 SQL Express running without problem along with Visual Studio 2008.

Any advice or suggestions to try would be appreciated.
