Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

Small site embedded login validating against Active Directory and redrecting to SharePoint site

I am only finding pieces of this information.

Challenge: Have a standard page with a login box in the corner that is exposed on the web.  The login will validate an employee against AD and also redirect them to a site collection.

I have found information on claims based authentication and the AD Membership provider.  I have also found information on form based login pages.  Most of these examples though just modify the SharePoint form login.  I want to create just a small login box on a page that is already created.  The one thing that I can't seem to find any really solid information on is the redirect to a site collection.

Can anyone tie all of this together for me?  Am I using the correct terminology and heading down the right path.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changes in Active Directory not reflected in SharePoint user info

I have a client who uses WSS 3.0 w/ SP1, and does not want to move to MOSS 2007.  The client will be migrating to Exchange 2007 soon, and part of this migration will include populating attributes for the user objects in Active Directory so that the phone numbers, addresses, departments, etc are all stored in AD.  The problem is that the mojority of the user base has already used SharePoint, and when each user first used SharePoint, their info was imported from AD.  Is there a way to force an import so that all the user info in SharePoint will be updated based on what is in Active Directory?  Is it possible to do it in the reverse direction so that users can update their info in SharePoint, and have it write back to their AD user object?

Programmatically syncing Active Directory changes with the SharePoint Site Collection

I manage a MOSS 2007 portal in Windows Server 2003, with a SQL Server 2005 backend.  We use Active Directory as the source for our SharePoint accounts.  I have written a Web Part that allows the user to edit certain fields in Active Directory, but the changes are not synched with the site collection right away.

I understand that the sync process is something like this:
1. Active Directory is updated.
2. SSP syncs with Active Directory (can force a sync from the web page, or with STSADM).
3. SSP syncs with underlying Site Collections (can force with STSADM).

This means that a user updates their information, but it is not apparent to them that the change went through, because the site collection profile is not updated. I know I can force a sync manually, but I want to do it programmatically.

What I want to do is this:  From my C# code in my Web Part, at the moment a user updates an Active Directory account, that account is synched with SSP, and then the SSP profile is updated in the site collection (I only have one site collection at the moment).  What is the code to accomplish this?

Problem Import Pictures into User Profiles from Active Directory

I have problems with getting the pictures from Active Directory (Field "thumbnail Photo") into my Sharepoint User Profile Store and displaying it in the MySites.

Profile Synchronization is working fine, the field Picture is mapped to thumbnailPhoto.

Then for finishing the process I execute the following powershell command:

Update-SPProfilePhotoStore -CreateThumbnailsForImportedPhotos 1 -MySiteHostLocation "http://mysite.vz.ch/my"

I execute this command under the user context from the account which has all the necessary AD-Rights. I do this with "start-job -Credentials $cred -ScriptBlock $sb" where -Credentials for the AD Sync Account and $sb for the above Powershell Script (Update-SPProfile....).

For this I had to give rights to the sync account on the user profile service application (administrator and permission button, I know). Also I had to give "db-owner"rights on the Configuration Database and also on the MySite Database for this sync account. I found this out via ULSLogViewer.

Now it is working as far that the scripts enumerates all user profiles and tries to process the images. But in ULSLogViewer I have the following error message:

"Error processing the photo URL User Photos/Profile Pictures/0c37852b-34d0-418e-91c6-2ac25af4be5b_652.jpg for user ZH01\BEr: System.U

Programmatically creating a SharePoint Site based on user input

I am working on developing a “Create Website Wizard” for SharePoint 2007 that would do the following (I am simplifying a little for the sake of this post):

1.      Take user input as follows:

Title:

Description:

Product Code:

Category (I, II, III):

The category will be a choice field (radio buttons or a dropdown)

User Alert Management for a specific list versus entire SharePoint site?

It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

Active Directory user impersonation with forms authentication

I've written a small ASP.NET 3.5 application to allow users to update selected account attributes on their own. Everything works fine when I use Basic Authentication, but because the dialog that is presented is less than ideal, I'd like to use forms authentication to give the users more instruction on how to log in. My problem is that in order for the user to update their account information, I have to have the application impersonate them for the update actions. I've scoured the internet trying to find a solution to my issue, but nothing fits or works. I have tried setting the web.config:<identity impersonate="true" /> but that doesn't seem to work. I also have the C# code using the WindowsImpersonationContext class, but still no luck. protected void titleTextBox_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { TextBox tb = (TextBox)sender; string fieldTitle = "job title"; string fieldName = "title"; if (userDirectoryEntry == null) CaptureUserIdentity(); try { WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext = userWindowsIdentity.Impersonate(); if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(tb.Text)) userDirectoryEntry.Properties[fieldName].Clear();

User Profiles Service Application and Import of SharePoint 2007 SSP data

I have setup a test SharePoint 2010 Farm. I will be using this as a test upgrade of a current live SharePoint 2007 Farm. The database attach method will be used. I have replicated the web application and AAM settings of the SharePoint 2007 Farm to the SharePoint 2010 Farm and have made the 2010 Farm a DC in a new Forest. I don't want to join this to the current domain at the moment. It also has SQL server 2005 with SP3 and cumulative update 3 installed. I have just setup the User Profiles Serice Application and when I go to Manage it, I get this. Error An unexpected error has occurred.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: a1760e87-372f-4711-afac-3ceba34bc599 Date and Time: 8/31/2010 4:22:56 PM I have verified and configured the following. Created the Managed Metadata Service. The status is started via Service Applications and Services on Server. Created the User Profiles Service Application and ensured status is started via Service Applications. I started the User Profile Service and User Profile Synchronisation Service via Manage Services on Server.

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

New SP 2010 Installation - Can't Get User Profiles / Outlook / My Site stuff working.

Hello,   I have a new SP 2010 Installation. I did NOT set it up in Standalone mode. My users can log in and create their own My Sites. They can edit them, add content, etc. When using Outlook 2010, they add one another in the People Pane. It shows up under My Site > My colleagues that they are connected. However, in Outlook, the MySite icon in the People Pane has a red X on it. I thought that User Profile Sync Service might be the culprit after reading through various blogs. However, if I go to Central Administration > Manage Profile Service : User Profile Service Application... if I click Configure Synchronization Connections, the page comes up - "The query returns nothing." I try to click "Create New Connection"... I get an error message - Cannot navigate to the requested page while User Profile Synchronization is running. Please wait for the current Synchronization to finish.   OK - I thought that the query returned no results. I don't see the service running... can someone point me in the right direction?

Creating and sharing new sharepoint site to internet, limiting user access

I am a new hire into an existing business as I.T. I know the networking, I know the computers. The owner now wants me to learn Sharepoint among some other things. They currently use WSS 3.0. I have been reading up on this for the last month. I think I am ready to extend the current site to make it an Internet site so the employees can login. Some other things we would like to do I have read up on and it looks like they can be done, things such as inventory tracking in collaboration with QuickBooks and creating a website / portal for clients to have a unique login on and can see the status of their jobs in custom SharePoint lists. As far as I can tell the clients need an AD account. However, apart from that I am not sure what to do. A little background.  The company has multiple clients, and we ship things out daily to those clients.  We use Sharepoint to track the status of the jobs as they progress through the stages ultimately going to delivery. There is one common page that lists all the jobs by all clients that is updated constantly. We would like to allow multiple (different) clients/logins and have a page customized for each client.  For example, you are a client and go to www.companyname.com/sharepointsite.html.  From there you would get to a portal page with a login. Once logged in you will be presented with the Shar

Import user profile from another domain active directory

Hi, I have SharePoint 2010 running on DomainB andwe have corporate users on DomainA. i need to import users from both domainA and DomainB. I am able to import users from domainB and not able to import users from DomainA. I made a successful connection to both Domain A Ad and DomainB AD in SharePoint 2010 user profile synchronize connections. I am able to sync users only from DomainB (SharePoint 2010 running on domainB) and not able to synchronize profiles from DomainA (outside domain). Is there any additional configuration I need to do. Please help me on this issue. Thanks, Ratna

Internet facing SharePoint site - user shouldn't have to log in to change the langague

Hello, I am using SharePoint 2010 for Internet sites.  Anonymous access has been enabled.  Language packs have been installed so that users can switch to different languages as required.  However, the only way for a different language to be selected other than the default is for the user to log into the site and then the option would be displayed.....This is an internet facing site with anonymous access therefore users shouldn't have to log in to change the language.  Can someone guide/advise on switching the lanuguage of the site without loggin in. Thanks, Shelley
