Sharepoint 2010 user creation in a resource forest model

Hi,  We have a setup with Exchange 2007, Sharepoint Services 3.0 - all in the same AD Domain/Forest. Now we have to install sharepoint 2010, but want to do it in a resource forest model. This 'resource forest' model will be forllowed for SharePoint 2010 only, without exchange.  So I have created a new AD domain and installed a SPT 2010 Standard Edition Server, which by itself is working. Now, I need to create Sharepoint Sites and assign user roles to it. The Users will come from the First AD Domain. I have read some blogs on this as well. I have understood the concept at high level. My questions are 1) I should be able to deploy users in resource forest model for Sharepoint 2010 only while their mailboxes continue to work in the current default way. Right ? 2) Would the existing users who are having roles in Sharepoint 3.2.0 in the first domain, be able to get roles in SPT 2010 in resource forest ? In other words they enjoy both 3.2.0 and 2010 simultaneously ? Possible ? 3) I definitely want to automate user creation on SPT 2010 using scripting because I don't see any feature like 'linked mailbox' which does this for Exchange resource forest model. I am wondering what is the best sequence to follow for user provisioning ?      i) I take the user name from the first domain - call it U1     ii) I create a user with similar name

MySite user profile site creation of My Content page is created as provisioned failed (unprovisioned

I've been trying to troubleshoot our User Profile Sync and have noticed the profile pages weren't getting updated with everything.  Most content was but things like memberships and the content tabs weren't.  I also saw this error in ULS: ProfSynch: Exception attempting to enumerate site 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e for ContentDB 23a6e3ef-6d56-4bde-825e-95c6924e2f91: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ProfileSynchronizationInternalException: ProfSynch: The site with ID 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e cannot be synchronized due to an unprovisioned root web.      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.GetSynchInfoForSite(SqlDataReader dr, SynchInfo info)      at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.<get_Elements>d__0.MoveNext() I checked in the MySite database under the webs table and noticed all the My Content sites for all of our users had the flag column with the number 1315 in them - (meaning unprovisioned as the error above states).  Cross checking with the User Sync Profile database under the SiteSynch table I noticed all of the sites have NULL for the value under both the LastSynch and ChangeToken columns (The User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization  timer job takes care of populating that).&

User Profile Property creation

I have inadvertently deleted the user profile property SPS-PhoneticDisplayName which means that users now get an error when trying to view their profile as the page tries to use this field. With cutom errors turned off in the web config file the message states  that the property must be created by an administrator using the profile administration tool.

When I try to re-create the property I get the following error Invalid Property name. Please enter a property name that matches the specification of URI schema name (RFC2396), which must begin with a letter, and must contain only letters, digits, and the characters ".", "+", or "-".

The property name appears to meet these requirements but it still fails. (if I remove the '-' from the name the property is created)

anyone know how I can recover the SPS-PhoneticDisplayName property?

Manualy login after creation of a user

Using a SqlMembershipProvider

I like to manualy register new users and to save mutch more data from them in a separate table.

since these tables are liked with the UserID generated by the SQL MembershipProvider I want to login the new user after he is added to the membership system.

this is my code:

                //create the user
                Membership.CreateUser(username, password, email);
                //give hime a role as Translator;
                Roles.AddUserToRole(username, "Translator");

Single User MySite Creation problem

Yeah... So I left the company I work for about 8 months ago, and came back to it about 2 months ago.  During my absence, my teammates deleted my AD account (as they should have).  Let me preface this by saying that MySite creation works for everyone else but me.

When I click on MySite I get the create My Site page, I can choose my language, but after pressing OK, I get this error:  "There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information."

I'm really not sure where to start on this one...  And am willing to give up quickly and just rename my account.  Does anyone have any ideas before I go that route?

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Thanks in advance,

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

UI Datepicker and web user controls

I have developed an application using the Master-Detail pattern described in this Matt Berseth article.

The only difference between Matt's article and me is that I am using a FormView object in place of a DetailsView.

Everything works fine except that the formview object, in my case it's inside a user control and I can't figure out how to use the jquery datepicker UI plugin.

I have tried to put the script block for the datepicker either in the aspx page as well as inside the user control but in both cases the calendar does not come up when the related textbox get the focus.

Any suggestion on how to work with the datepicker inside an ascx?

thanks in advance!
