Cannot connect to SSAS production server in customers network

Hi,

I have a problem when connecting to the SSAS production server (SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition) of my customer.

The situation is as follows: I have SSMS installed on my computer and also on the production server. On the server the connection to my SSAS/database works fine, but on my machine it doesn't. I am connected through a VPN connection with the customers network. The Windows Firewall is not activated on the Windows Server 2003 SP3 where SSAS is installed on. The connection to the SQL Server Database located on the same server from my machine works fine (via Windows Authentication), but as I said, the connection to SSAS does not. As we have different Windows Domains I am logged on with my corporate login (RCG\alexander.greiner) on my machine and connected through VPN with the administrative credentials (CUSTOMER\myadmin) I got from my customer.

Following error message is displayed when I try to connect to the remote SSAS in my customers network: "A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)"

Do you have any ideas on how I can solve this problem?

Cannot connect to SQL Server 2005 locally by Windows Authentication DOMAIN \ myname. But network connection is successful.   But SQL Server Logins contain   BUILTIN \ Administrators, and                                                    BUILTIN \  Administrators contain DOMAIN \ Domain Admins, and                                                    DOMAIN \ Domain Admins contain DOMAIN \ myname.   Creating SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ myname entail successful local connection.   Removing SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ myname and creating SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ Domain Admins do NOT entail successful connection. Connect to server with other network credentials??

  

I work from home and need to connect to my employers database server. I am running SQL Server 2008 on my home PC and I am connected remotely to my employers network via vpn. However, if I try to make a connection via windows authentication it's using my credentials I use to log onto my PC and not the credentials I use to connect via vpn. How can I enter my vpn credentials and register the remote server in Server Management Studio?

Unable to connect to sql server in network but working fine over VPN

I have a sql server 2005 named instance running on windows 2003. I have an issue  in sql connectivity:

When the client system is in the network, client is not able to connect in management studio to the SQL server without specifiying the port number i.e. tcp: abc\xyz. If the client specifies the port number, he is able to connect to it like tcp:abc\xyz,20001.

Now the strange thing is : The same client system when connected over vpn works fine without specifying the port number in the connection string  like tcp: abc\xyz,20001.

then why is it failing to get the port number when the system is in the network?

I verified sql browser service. it is running fine. Firewall is in stopped state. What new components would come into picture over vpn that allow browser to service the port number? It's pretty strange issue and hence looking for any thoughts.

Note: SPN is not registered for the sql service.

i m newbie on sqlserver.I had manage to build a database (MS SQL SERVER 2005 standard) with a vb.net 2008 and tested well with local machine. and wanted to put a software on client. and   some-how manage to stucture a security model on server authentication. but still not clear on user management. and others.

will anybody help me step by step how to connect remote sql server on non domain network using SQL Server authentication

Deploying custom Web Parts on SharePoint 2007 production server

  
I would like to develop a custom SharePoint 2007 Web Part for a client. Currently I'm using Visual Studio to deploy my solution to a test environment (since it's a SharePoint Project I choose just Build -> Deploy from the menu). What are the appropriate steps to deploy it to the production server?

I'd like keep it simple and safe (i.e. use the principle of least privilege). Therefore (if possible) avoid using stsadm, achieve this through web interface, or avoid using administrative rights.

Also, can I specify the scope of my Web Part, i.e. choose on which Web Application or Site Collection will it be installed?

I am creating an application where I want to store an html page from one of my websites into another web site. 
For the same purpose I am taking the url of the html pages 
for example if I want to copy this page "http://mydomain.com/html/page1.html" then i take this url from a text box which user enters.

How to connect to local instance of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express ?

  

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

i tried connecting to local machine using :

.\sqlexpress, (local)\sqlexpress, or .\SQLExpress, MyPCNAME\SQLExpress

nothing is working, getting this error:

sqlcmd, cannot connect to server

  
I have SQL Server installed on a machine called SQLDEV. I log on to that machine and I run the command sqlcmd -s SQLDEV -Q "select * from <db>.<schema>.<some_table> -E This command works and returns a result set.   Next, I go to a different machine. On that machine I can use SQL Mgmt Studio to log on to SQLDEV using window authentication. However, if I run the same command as above, I get some kind of a connection error. The error says, ".... When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections .....   Any suggestions/ideas why I am getting this error?

SQL Server Network Interfaces Error 26 - while failing over SQL Server 2008 R2

  
Before I explain the issue I am facing, I would like to say that I did read the post at  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx but in my case the problem is transient (lasts for approximately two minutes after a failover) so items 1-3 in the list of troubleshooting steps do not seem to make sense. As to 4 and 5, the named instances use non-default ports (2433 and 3433 respectively), so I do not know how to tailor the PortQry command for that. I tried  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433-p UDP -e 1434 and  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433 -p UDP -e 2434 and it failed both times with a "Failed to resolve name to IP address" while the server was up and serving database requests The same thing happened when I tried it with the failover server as well. ***The issue I am facing*** I am using Enterprise Library 4.1 to connect to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database with a mirror. My connection string itself is as below (with dummy values for all fields): "Data Source=ServerA;Failover Partner=ServerB;Initial Catalog=DBName;User ID=uid;Password=pwd;Connect Timeout=5" Sample .NET code is as below (with modifications to instantiate all variables locally to provide context): SqlDatabase db = new SqlDatabase(ConnectionString); SqlConnection cn = (SqlConnection)db

Hi, I encountered the below listed error while attempting to deploy SSAS 2008 DB: Error 1 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Login timeout expired; HYT00; A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Cannot connect Visio 2007 to SQL Server CE 3.5 database?

  
I am trying to reverse engineer a database (running under SQL Server CE 3.5 SP1) with Visio 2007 Professional.  I may be being blind, but I can find not way for Visio to do this.  Am I missing something or just piddling into the wind? Fully patched Vista. Thanks, Ed Bessant  

Can't connect to SQL 2005 Enterprise using Management Studio with Server Name (only (local) works

  
This is a test system, everything running locally & no domains. Win 2003 Ent. Server & SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. I can't log into SQL Server Management Studio using the server name & using either Windows Authentication or SQL login. If I change the name of the server in the drop-down list to "(local)", I connect just fine (both Windows & SQL security modes). Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP enabled in both server & client. Remote connections allowed. I have IP adresses (both 127.0.0.1 & external IP) in my hosts file pointing to the server name. Does SQL require a DNS server? This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I can't install SQL 2005 SP3 due to authentication failure since there's no way to enter (local) as the server name. SQL tools (management studio, SP install) seem to see the SQL server running but won't authenticate the user through any means other than setting server name to (local). This is driving me crazy!!!

Unable to connect to the ASP.NET Development Server

  
 I have VS 2008 with SP1 installed on Win XP. I have .NET 3.5 with SP1 installed When I ran and opened an existing project for the first time, I got the below error WebDev.WebServer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. After this error, I continusly get  "Unable to connect to the ASP.NET Development Server." whenever I run the website. I checked the internet and ASP.NET forum and tried all the following Making port numbers auto assign Making it to a specific port number using the Custom web server Tried creating new web site and checking Replaced WebDev.WebServer.EXE after downloading it from a website My anti virus have not blocked any websites as such I tried resetting VS settings by running devenv /resetsettings Can any one help me, what else might be the problem?
