SSAS 2008 - Date Member Property gets converted from NULL to (Blank)

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello everyone,

I have this cube with a dimension of investment deals.  The "Deal" member has a attribute named "Latest Acquisition Date" where this date can be null for some deals.  Once the cube is processed, the null dates always get converted to "(blank)" either in BIDS cube browser or in Excel.  This happens no matter what I do to the NullProcessing property of this date attribute.

Is there any way to have SSAS display [NULL] (as in nothing at all) instead of "(blank)" ?

Ignoring Blank member names in SSAS

Hi all, I was wondering if there is a quick and easy way to ignore any member name that has a blank name?  Currently I have a cube where I get (Blank) as the member name which has a value associated to it and I need to hide/delete these. I didnt design the underlying fact and dimension tables so wanted to know if there is a quick way within SSAS/MDX to say something like "If member name is (Blank) then ignore. Thanks in advance for you help.

"The member was not found when the string was parsed - SSAS 2008/PivotTable

I have defined an Additional Action to show me some detailed records when I'm using a PivotTable against an SSAS 2008 cube.  However, the problem is intermittent.  It seems to be complaining about a datetime field - yet this datetime field isn't even being requested as one of the drillthrough columns.

The full message is "Query (187,1319) The member '&[2010-07-30T15:31:44:263333] was not found in the cube when the string [Final Criminal Count Charge].[Load Datetime].[All].&[2010-07-30T15:31:44.263333], was parsed."

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted!!

SSAS 2008 - The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension

Last week I was able to view member properties for my Product Dimension in Excel 2010 pivot tables. Suddenly, without having made any changes to the dimension (for example, in the Attribute Relationships window of the dimension), those member properties are no longer available in Excel. I get the error "The OLAP data source has no property fields available for this dimension" when I try to select "Show Properties in Report" or "Show Properties in Tooltips" in the Pivot Table. At the same time, member properties are available for all other dimensions. I have also not made any changes to the data source connection in Excel and in any event, there is no option in the data source connection to enable or disable member property visibility. I am using BIDS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.50.1600.1). Does anybody have an idea why this might be happening?

how to sort date dimension in SSAS 2008?

Hi I have SSAS 2008 DimDate dimension.

At source DimDate table has:
DateID : 20100518 (primary key), 20100519, 20100520,... (and SortKey too at T-SQL level)
MonthName : April, May, June,....
MonthNameYear : April,2010  May,2010  June,2010

I would like to sort dimension by MonthNameYear's attributes (currently I have order like January 2001, January 2002, January 2003.... but I want order like January 2001, Feburary,2001,March,2001 .......)
In SSAS visual studio, in Date dimension structure >> Attributes panr>> Month Name Year (properties : OrderBy, I set to Key, Name, AttributeKey, AttributeName and deployed but no luck in sorting).

Any idea how to sort date dimesion attributes? Thanks.

Process Update does not reflect change in case of dimension member in SSAS 2008.

Process Update does not reflect change in case of dimension member in SSAS 2008. We can replicated this issue in Adventure Works 2008 with below steps.

1.  Customer Name Aaron Allen is in Title case both in Adventure Works SQL 2008 Data Mart as well as in SSAS 2008.

2.  Change Customer Name Aaron Allen to Upper case in Adventure Works SQL Data Mart.

error in MicrosoftAjax.js: Cannot read property '_notified' of null

I am cross testing my project with multiple browsers: IE7, Firefox and Chrome.

One one page I have a dynamically built table with two DropDownLists and CascadingDropDown extenders. Maybe the only thing special about the drop down lists is, that I add a "onChange" for the second drop down list in each row which shows or hides the list depending on the value populated from the web services.

All of this works perfectly in IE7 and Firefox, but Chrome does not execute the JavaScript in the onChange attribute and the error console says:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '_notified' of null

SSRS 2008 date validation

Hello, Perhaps somone can shed some light on this. I want to make sure the user doesn't set a Startdate > EndDate  in a report. I've done some thing like this: Go to the Report Properties under the Report menu and place this code to the Code Tab. Public Function CheckDate(SDate as Date, EDate as Date) as Integer Dim msg as String msg = "" If (SDate > EDate) Then msg="Start Date should not be later than End Date" End If If msg <> "" Then MsgBox(msg, 16, "Parameter Validation Error") Err.Raise(6,Report) 'Raise an overflow End If End Function Then go to the Report Parameters and Add named it XXX with the datatype is string. Checked the Hidden and Allow blank value ckeckboxes. In Available Values choose Non-Queried and from Default Values choose Non-Queried in right side of textbox then press the FX button then paste this code. =CODE.CheckDate( .Value) But I'm having problems with the =CODE.CheckDate( .Value)  syntax. SSRS errors out. Any suggestions/insights? --joe

report builder 3.0 How do I set a dataset property filter to null

seems to be every other imaginable option ...  "NULL" is not accepted, [NULL] returns an error ... this should be obvious!

Updating a List item field value in a SPD Workflow is setting Date fields to null

Hello everybody,I faced a very weird behavior while creating a workflow in SPD against a Document Library. Here is the case:1- Create a document library in sharepoint site.2- Add a custom column of type DATE.3- Upload any document to the library4- Edit the item metadata and set the custom date field to any date you want.5- Now using sharepoint designer, create a very simple Workflow with only one action that updates the current item "Title" field to any value. (Note: In my case I set the workflow to start manually and not automatically)6- Save the workflow and then start it on the uploaded item.7- Now check the value of the date column after the workflow is finished.8- You will see that the Date field is Empty... (very weird)Notes:   1-This behavior will not appear on a standard list. it is only appearing in a Document library.  2- I am using WSS 3.0 SP2 + MOSS 2007 SP2. Also SharePoint designer 2007 SP2Did anyone face this situation and does it have a fix, or am I doing something wrong here... Please help.Regards,Maheed

Workflow 3.5 Activity property is null in condition and nowhere else

I have an activity that has properties that look something like this (they're set up as proper dependency properties, I just kept it simple here): public List<MyType> TypeList { get; set; }public Int32 Index { get; set; }public MyType SelectedType { get; set; } and an execution that just does this: SelectedType = TypeList[Index]; TypeList and Index are values that I set from other activities. I don't set SelectedType to anything in the activity properties, I just let it get set in the execution. Now I know for a fact that SelectedType is getting set properly, I can even point another activity to it and print out some values from it. So I'm quite positive that there's nothing wrong with that activity. However, I have an if activity with a condition that looks like this: ((MyActivity)GetActivityByName("activity1")).SelectedType != null and it evaluates to false (meaning it evaluated SelectedType as null). I'm pretty sure that that activity cast is correct (I do things like that all the time), and if it weren't wouldn't I get a null reference exception when trying to access SelectedType? So I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong here, but for some reason SelectedType is coming up null in that condition and no where else. It's almost as if the condition is being evaluated before the activity is being run, but the activity comes well before the condi

SSRS 2008 R2 - OnPostBack from ReportParameter - if no default set, throws Value can not be null

SSRS 2008 R2 - OnPostBack from Parameter selection - if no default set, throws Value can not be null java script error. This does not happen with SSRS 2008, only with R2. and only with report parameters that do not have a 'default' set.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shared dataset in SSRS 2008 R2 running on SSAS 2005

I am trying to create a report in SSRS 2008 R2 using SSAS 2005 as a datasource. My dataset has a date parameter. When I create an embedded dataset in my report everything works fine, but when I create a shared dataset with the exact same mdx query, I get the following error: An error occurred during local report processing. The definition of the report 'xxxx' is invalid. The Value expression for the report parameter 'DateCalendarHierarchy' contains an error: [BC30034] Bracketed identifier is missing closing ']'. Does anybody have any ideas? Is this a bug? Thanks, Louis

AdomdDataAdapter.Fill returns memory error when querying an SSAS Cube(2008)

For certain SQL's I will get the following error when calling the Fill method on an AdomdDataAdapter object. "Memory error: While attempting to store a string, a string was found that was larger than the page size selected. The operation cannot be completed."   Snippet of Code: DataSet ds1 = new DataSet(); AdomdCommand acmd1 = cn1.CreateCommand(); acmd1.CommandText = "SELECT ..."; AdomdDataAdapter ad1 = new AdomdDataAdapter(acmd1); ad1.Fill(ds1);   Now when we run this query in Ms Sql Studio we don't get any errors but the query returns 1 row with over 40,000 columns. I'm guessing the # of columns might be an issue but not sure.   When doing a Google search it appears that this problem was found in the 2005 and fixed in that version. Have any of you come across this problem?
