SharePoint/IIS referencing a Temporary Files version of an assembly

Posted By:      Posted Date: November 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm having a very weird and frustrating problem.  I have a SharePoint Feature that I am deploying, however at some point it references the AjaxControlToolKit dll that is in the GAC.  What happens is the following error:

CS0433: The type 'AjaxControlToolkit.ModalPopupExtender' exists in both 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\30ff2330\b662b5c4\assembly\dl3\2724a5e5\b1736a7f_6c53cb01\AjaxControlToolkit.DLL' and 'c:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\AjaxControlToolkit\3.0.30930.20127__28f01b0e84b6d53e\AjaxControlToolkit.dll'

What happens is that each time I access the SharePoint site where this Feature is deployed and Activated, a set of temporary files is created in the 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\' path.  I have tried to stop IIS, delete these temp files, then restart, but each time I begin to use this SP site, the temp files are created again, and then I get this conflict error.

About the AjaxControlToolkit.dll:  It is not set to CopyLocal and this is not being run in debug, I've tried it being added to SafeControls on the web.config file.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix?  It has basically halted

SharePoint document migration challenges when migrating files and folders

There are several challenges when migrating documents to Microsoft SharePoint. While these challenges can be overcome, they are a real pain if the migration source, content and file systems are not SharePoint friendly.

Add edit drop down menu so I can edit pdf files in SharePoint

I have a pdf file that I'd like to open and edit.  The pdf file just opens, and doesn't ask if it should be opened as a read only or edit option.  My colleague is able to select edit mode as a drill down, but I can't figure out how to add this functionality into my document library... does anyone have a solution?

Reporting Services in SharePoint integration - configurtion errors in 64bit version

Hi,

We have build an MOSS 2007 environment on 64 bit servers. We build the reporting services server and configured in SharePoint integration mode. Initially configuration looks fine with reporting services integration with green indicators.

After creating a web application and accessing the web site from the report servor, i have found the following errors:

Storing .EXE Files in SharePoint

Hello,

New to SharePoint.  We just started migrating directories to our SharePoint server, and have encountered an issue storing .EXE files.  The error message says that it is denied by the administrator, however our IT team believes you can not store .EXE in SharePoint and that it is a system limitation.

Could someone please confirm whether or not there is a restriction for the storage of .EXE files in SharePoint?

If this is just an administrator setup issue, is there a doc that would direct us how to remore this setting?

Thank you,

Dan.

Migrate DB + files outside DB into SharePoint using SSIS and scripts

Hello, just wanted to ask a question about SSIS and SharePoint, any input will be greatly appreciated.... did search the forum but could not find anything....

So basically we have a SQL Server DB with the metadata ONLY, WITHOUT the related files(doc/ppt/pdf..etc) which should've been in the DB and they are on a separate web server inside folders. Each row in the DB has a key (column) which matches the related folder's name, so for row with ID #112, there's a folder named ID112 on the web server with the relevant files inside. There could be more than 8+ files for one folder.

Now, I think it is possible but just wanted to double check, would it be possible to use SSIS and some kind of a script to get the metadata inside the SQL DB AND the related files inside those folders, combine & relate them and upload them into SharePoint as a custom list with file attachments? would they display the attachment normally (like the paperclip icon in a sharepoint list...etc) I wonder if anyone has tried this...

Any guidance, thoughts, suggestions for other solutions, inputs will be great!!! Thank you!!

"Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727'.... " issue and use custom config file

Hi, My Winform applilcation has used Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace(assembly :Microsoft.Sqlserver.smo.dll/Microsoft.Sqlserver.ConnectionInfo.dll) and developed in .NET 4.0. Problem:Application is throw an exception when it tries to use above assembly reference methods. Full error text is shown below, "Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information. Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo, Version=9.0.242.0......

Hello to everyone. I have a .exe which uses the Server Management Objects(SMO) When I try it on my pc it runs without any problem. But on another pc it gives this error: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo, Version=9.0.242.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I'm using SQL Server 2000 and for the application: Visual Studio 2005. Any idea would be very useful!! Thanks in advance!!

The website is already referencing the assembly

I keep trying to add an assembly reference to my website which doesn't show up anywhere in my code.  Specifically, I would like to add a reference to System.Xml.Linq.dll to my website.  No such reference appears in my web.config file.  Also, when I right click on the website in the Solution Explorer window, go to Property Pages, and then click on References in the left-hand column, System.Xml.Linq does not appear. Yet, when I right-click on the website and go to add reference, I ultimately am met with the error: "The website is already referencing the assembly 'System.Xml.Linq'" Also, when I put a using statement at the top of one of my classes in my App_Code folder for the System.Xml.Linq namespace, the Visual Studio IDE does not flag it as an error. Any insight into this strangeness would be very much appreciated.  I'd like to put this into production someday, and I'm worried it might not work due to a missing reference.  The version I'm currently using is Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas! Cheers, Andrew

Updating Config Files in Sharepoint Farm

I am trying to update config files web.comnfig in the Virtual Directory of my server so that users are allowed to upload more that 50 MB of files in my IIS 7 server. Everytime i do the update it works fine but after few days when there are few changes then it removes the added elements itself and restore in the Original Stage. I used to edit my config files manually. I found a way of creating a config files and saving it to the Config Directory under 12 Hive in Server. Like the Content will be similar as follows <actions>    <add path="configuration/SharePoint/SafeControls">       <SafeControl          Assembly="System.Web, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral,             PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"          Namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls"          TypeName="*"          Safe="True"/>    </add>   </actions> I have to add following line <system.webServer>     <security>       <requestFiltering>         <requestLimits maxAllowedCon

Not always prompted for read-only or EDIT mode, when opening files with IE7, Sharepoint 3.0

Hello Everyone,   We use Sharepoint 3.0 and when I click on a document I get a pop up prompt that asks me whether I want to open the file in READ-ONLY or EDIT mode.   I use a machine with XP Pro that is running IE7.   A user called me today, also running IE7, and when he clicks to open a Sharepoint file he gets a different prompt - a simpler one that just offers OPEN or SAVE.   I don't care that his prompt looks different - the problem is that he is able to open the file, make edits, but then when he closes the file (using Excel) he isn't able to save his changes.   Excel only provides a save-as option for him.   This isn't a permission problem with his ID.   When I login to our Sharepoint 3.0 system as him, with his password (from my machine), I get the usual Read-Only / Edit prompt and when I open a file in EDIT mode I am able to save my changes with no problem.   Any thoughts on this?   Chris

SharePoint Version 2.0 (WSS 2.0 SP3) Content Database restore to new farm

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.
