Calling Javascript from loop inside a Sub

Hi Guys, I had a copyfile sub that worked fine on my local testing environment in VWD 2008, but now that it is on the server does not work. I assume it is because it is looking on the server for the files, not the local client machine. I am now trying to use client side Javascript to mimic the process. I have created a JS function to do it, but I can't get it to call the JS function inside my VB Sub. Here's the code, thanks to all replyers in advance! Public Function Copy_Photo(ByVal path_in As String, ByVal newname As String) As String Try Dim ret_path As String = Me.Master.get_mug_shot_folder ret_path += newname Response.write("<script type = 'text/javascript'>CopyPhoto('" & path_in & "','" & ret_path & "');</script>") Return ret_path Catch ex As Exception msg_div.InnerText = "ERROR: Could not properly copy file " & path_in & " to location " End Try End Function    Notice how I tried using the Response.write method. It gives me an Object Required error everytime. Here's the JS function: function CopyPhoto(oldFile, newfile) { alert(oldfile + " " + newfile); var fso; fso = new ActiveXObject("Scr

clientId inside a repeater to a JavaScript Function

<a href="javascript:setting('ViewProfile','1','hdViewName');"/>
I have this anchor control inside a  Repeater. The javascript function need to pass the client id of the hidden field which is also inside the repeater. The problem is that I don't know the client id of the hidden field inside the repeater control in advance.The id is like ctl00......00hdnvalue and the id changes with the number of repeater items. Is there a solution for this situation?

Updating an ASP.NET CheckBoxList inside an UpdatePanel from a Javascript function

I have a asp.net listbox server control that is connected to a jquery plugin that can handle a client side click event for each of the checkboxes it renders.

Whenever I click on a checkbox the click event gets triggered and I make a call to

__doPostBack("UpdatePanel1"""); so that i can update the updatepanel and rebind the checkboxlist inside it.

is it possible to do the rebind first, and then update the updatepanel? how do i do that? because now, the rebind happens on the second time i click on the checkbox.

dm_fts_parser inside try-catch block

Hi, I'm working on a project and have a code similar to the code posted below and I would like to understand why the CATCH block is never executed. If the try catch is removed the dm_fts_parser will send an error complaining search string syntax, however inside a try-catch block the code will silently return an empty recordset, no error is triggered and catch block is never executed.

USE master

      @StopWordListID int
      , @SearchString varchar(1000)
      , @WordBreakerLcid int
      , @AccentSensitivity bit

      @SearchString = '"Introduction" OR "Repair and Service'
      , @WordBreakerLcid = 1033 -- English word breaker
      , @AccentSensitivity = 0 -- Default is not accent sensitive

      @StopWordListID = ft.stoplist_id
FROM    AdventureWorks2008.sys.tables t
      INNER JOIN AdventureWorks2008.sys.fulltext_indexes ft ON ( t.object_id = ft.object_id )
WHERE   ( t.name = 'Document' )

        , LEFT ( dfp.special_term , 200 )
    FROM  AdventureWorks2008.sys.dm_fts_parser ( @SearchString , @WordBreakerLcid , @StopWordListID , @AccentSensitivity ) dfp

dynamic javascript of an .ascx control inside an updatepanel not changing on client between async po

I have a confusing state issue. I found a way around it, but I would like to know why this is happening. First of all, I am using .NET 3.5 and that can't change right now (an easy fix may be the fixed ID capabilities of .NET 4.0).

Type csType = this.GetType();
ClientScriptManager cs = Page.ClientScript;
string jScriptBlockName = "SignUpSignInNameAvailabilityScript";
if (!cs.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(csType, jScriptBlockName))
{   //NOTE: verified code always enters this
    StringBuilder cstext2 = new StringBuilder();
    cstext2.Append("function GetSignUpSignInNameAvailabilityMessage() { var id = '"
          + CreateUserWizardStep1.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("iSignUpSignInNameAvailabilityMessage").ClientID
          + "'; alert(id); return id; }");
    cs.RegisterClientScriptBlock(csType, jScriptBlockName, cstext2.ToString(), true);

This code is in Page_Load of an ascx. The same control is drawn on two separate postbacks of an UpdatePanel in different places of the page thus giving them different client IDs. The code works correctly on the first refresh of web browser; but after UpdatePanel

LinkButton inside UpdatePanel not executing onClick javascript

So, I have a MasterPage, in which I have an ImageButton and an UpdatePanel. Inside the UpdatePanel I have a LinkButton.

<asp:ImageButton ID="imgPdf" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/Images/pdf.png" OnClick="LnkRelease1_Click" ToolTip="Document1.pdf" Width="31px" />

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel9" runat="server">

<asp:LinkButton ID="LnkRelease1" runat="server" OnClick="LnkRelease1_Click" ToolTip="Document1.pdf" Font-Underline="false">View Pdf</asp:LinkButton>

As you can see, both components are asociated to the same OnClick event, which should open said PDF document in a new window
using javascript (Code Behind of the MasterPage):

protected void LnkRelease1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
     try {   if ((((System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl)(sender))).ToolTip != "") { string script = @"

Javascript allert inside AJAX UpdatePanel not working

I am having problems with alert box not popup when I'm using AJAX UpdatePanel. The following is what I have and it's not working.

1    ClientScriptManager csm = Page.ClientScript;
3    if(!csm.IsStartupScriptRegistered(this.GetType(), "winPop"))
4    {
5    	csm.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "winPop", "alert('Update is successful');", true);
6    }

I have to stress that the reason why it does not work is because I'm using AJAX UpdatePanel. If I turned off the AJAX UpdatePanel then it works perfectly. So does anyone have solution to go around this AJAX UpdatePanel issue?

calling JavaScript from inside TabPanel

I had a standard ASP.NET page where I had a some client side Java script make some controls visible/enabled if a checkbox was clicked or not.

<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server">
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" >
        function Email2Checkbox() {
            var checkbox = document.getElementById("<%=cbEmail2.ClientID %>");

            if (checkbox.checked == true) {
                document.getElementById("<%=lblEmail1.ClientID%>").disabled = false;
                document.getElementById("<%=dropEmailType_2.ClientID%>").disabled = false;
                document.getElementById("<%=lblEmail2.ClientID%>").disabled = false;
                document.getElementById("<%=txtEmail_2.ClientID%>").disabled = false;
                document.getElementById("<%=regexValEmail_2.ClientID%>").disabled = false;
            else {
                document.getElementById("<%=lblEmail1.ClientID%>").disabled = true;
                document.getElementById("<%=dropEmailType_2.ClientID%>").disabled = true;

Find Control inside a View of Multiview using Javascript (document.getElementById)

i am using the multiview control inside a page and i am trying to find a control using the javascript function document.getElementById. My Problem is that the function returns null cause it cannot find the control. When i open the code of the page from the browser the active view is not rendered so I think thats the reason why I am getting a null value from the function.

On the HTML code is rendered only the first view or the view that is activated on page load.

Is there any way to find a control inside the view using javascript? or I am doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot.

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.
