Allow or deny roles to update, insert and delete records.

Hello, I have two roles "Admin" and "Basic". I also have a listview on the web page. My goal is that to make "Admin" role has the highest privilege to deal with records such as "insert", "update" and "delete". For the role "Basic", it only can update the records. Is there any sample code for that? Thanks.

How to let a non admin business user run a replication snapshot job?

According to the msdn library, I would have to give the non admin user (User1) SQLAgentUserRole privileges. But it also says that it has to be a local job and not a multi server job. Is the snapshot agent job a local or multi server job? Considering the snapshot agent is a local job and i make USER1 the owner of that job. He should be able to run the job rite? I need to give USER1 the ability to run sp_start_job to start the snapshot agent ONLY! (and not any other jobs). So what are the steps to do this? I also read that the only way to achieve this is by creating a proxy account? Is there an article somewhere that best describes this?

Merge Replication, Push Subscription : The snapshot takes centuries to apply

Well, not centuries, except that the users are storming the gate. I'm trying to find how to get the snapshot moved to the subscriber and applied in a reasonable time. Last time was successful, but took 2 1/2 days to build the subscriber database from the snapshot. Hillary responded: Something is very wrong here. You should be able to generate your snapshot, copy it manually over to the subscriber - using the altsnapshotfolder parameter and then apply it there. So now I have my snapshot, a folder with lots of .cft .bcp .dri .prc .sch  and .trg files. Getting this to the subscriber computer shouldn't take long. Once I get it there, how do I use it to get the subscriber set up?  You can't be successful at this unless you're at least 1/2 a bubble off level.

A query in Snapshot replication ---- Please help !!!!!

Hi,     I have a SQL Database with different roles and users, depends upon their roles, permissions, they can see some table, views and etc.     Now,I am going to replicate (Snapshot) the same Database into different server.    My query is, in the source database incase if they do some changes in the roles, permissions, adding roles/updation of users happens, the same will be replicated in the  destination databsase as well? One of my friend told that ,snapshot replication just deals with records inside the Database and does not deal with users/roles/permissions...Is that so?

which is best Snapshot Replication or Transaction Replication for my requirement?

Hi,    We have a main transaction database where all the live data is there. Now, to run a reporting application,we need a  different database, but the data is as EXACTLY as the live database. So,probaly every noght aroung 1 0'clock,we want to sync these two databases.   In this scenario, which is better, Snapshot replication or Transaction Replication? what are the pros and cons of using them? As I am new to this things,ur answers would be very much helpful..

Merge Replication Compressed Snapshot

Hi, How do I go about compressing my snapshot files? I am unable to find a tutorial explaining how to do it.

Unable to update records using IN clause

Hi, I've a common function as shown below: public int ExecuteNonQuery(string text, params IDataParameter[] parameters) { DbCommand command = new SqlCommand(); command.CommandText = text; command.CommandType = type; command.Connection = conn; command.Transaction = null; foreach (IDataParameter parameter in parameters) { command.Parameters.Add(parameter); } return command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } public IDataParameter CreateParameter(string name, object value) { if (!name.StartsWith("@")) name = "@" + name; DbParameter parameter = new SqlParameter(name, value); if (value == DBNull.Value) parameter.IsNullable = true; return parameter; }  When I want to update records in a table, I usually invoke as shwon below:// Assume you've a connection object IDataParameter param = conn.CreateParameter("vendor_id", vendorId); string query = "UPDATE table SET status=4 WHERE vendor_id = " + param.ParameterName; conn.ExecuteNonQuery(query, param); This code works fine. But when I'm trying to update multiple records using IN clause, it does not work. Can any one tell me how to do it using IN clause? I need to update all vendors ava

Update statement not updating records and returns no errors

I am running an Update statement against an SQL database on server 2008. The update runs but does not update the record, but returns no errors. The database is part of a commercial help desk package called TrackIt 8.5 which was just a fresh install on a new web server and a new sql server. The update is running from a web form we use to automatically create active directory accounts. After the account is created the web form closes out the work order in the Trackit db. This was working fine when the system was running on Server 2003 and SQL server 2005. Running Trackit version 7.02. The login use to access the database has full permissions to read and write to the database, just as it did on the old server which never had an issue updating. Odd thing is, if I log onto the SQL server and make a change to any single field in that record. I can then run the web form and it updates the record normally. All other update statements that are running on other databases are running fine. Anyone have any suggestions on what to check that may be causing this issue?

Snapshot isolation transaction aborted due to update conflict.

To avoid deadlocks, we switched from ReadCommittedSnapshot isolation to SnapShot isolation for a SQL Server database at the database level and transaction level in the client code. Now, when two users perform concurrent operations on the database through the client, one of the clients get this error: "Snapshot isolation transaction aborted due to update conflict. You cannot use snapshot isolation to access table 'dbo.cust_table' directly or indirectly in database 'cust_database' to update, delete, or insert the row that has been modified or deleted by another transaction. Retry the transaction or change the isolation level for the update/delete statement."What can we do to avoid deadlocks and update conflicts at the same time? (The same code with Oracle database and Oracle client works without any issues with the default Read Committed Snapshot isolation level)

Can't replicate few tables in Snapshot replication SQL 2005 in two different domain

I am not able to replicate few tables of a database using snapshot replication. Both publisher and subscriber are in different network and domain.Although I am able to replicate 950 tables but facing problem in some 30 tables.I am using push replication and I can telnet 1433 port from A server to B server but vice versa not happening. When I am replicating few records of that few tables it is replicating properly but not able to replicate complete table. I tried Verbose history too but I didn't get complete error.

Please help me out.....

Update records related to primary table in sql

HI All,

For example

I have 2 tables  Person and Person_Child.

In Person table i have columns

Id, PersonId,PersonName,PersonAdrress,PersonAge,RowId

1,101,JAck,NJ,30,12

rowid is identity

and in the person_child table--here parentrowid refers to parent table rowid and again rowid is identity here

Id, PersonId,PersonName,PersonAdrress,PersonAge,ParentRowid,RowId

1,101,JAck,NJ,30,12,1

1,101,null,null,null,12,2

I need to update the child table values as it is in parent tables where it is null.

I have to do for many tables.

Is there any way to do it dynamically.

Thanks,

JR

transactional replication - no initial snapshot generated

When I try to set up a transactional replication, setting it up works fine, but then I get an error from the snapshot assistant: the execution stops at the table sysdiagrams with the error message that the filed „definition“ uses the type varbinary(max).

There was no specific error code, i.e. the error code displayed was '0'

If I try to set up a snapshot replication the sysdiagrams table is not included and it runs through just fine.

SQL Server 2008 merge replication snapshot hangs on filtered articles

I have a publication on SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition using merge replication.  When I attempt to generate the initial snapshot, the snapshot agent appears to hang on the step "Setting up the publication for filtered articles."  I get a long (over 4 hour) series of messages: "The process is running and is waiting for a response from the server."  I know something is happening server-side, as SQL Server and the snapshot agent use a lot of memory and max out one core's processing capacity.

This has me confused as the publication is not doing any filtering.

Even more confusing:  I backed up the database and restored it onto my development-test system.  I created the snapshot there, and it took under 10 minutes every time.

Any suggestions for investigating and resolving this?

SSIS : Insert, Update, Delete records from destination table by comparing records in source table.

Requirement: Inse

rt, Update, Delete records from destination table by comparing records in source table.

Update: if records exist in both the table compare them, and update value in destination table if value is different.

Insert: if record doesn't exist in destination table, add new record in destination table.

Delete: if record exist in destination table but not in source table, delete record from destination table.

----> I have created an SSIS package that does all this task but in order to perform delete operation, I have to store all records of destination table into a temporary table.
And since it's not the most efficient way, I have created another SSIS package by using Lookup & conditional Splits
method, now it works fine with inserting and updating information but I am not sure on how to handle removing record operation!

I would really appreciate if you could help me with this.

(In order to archive inserting and deleting records, I have referred following thread!
