Migrate DB + files outside DB into SharePoint using SSIS and scripts

Hello, just wanted to ask a question about SSIS and SharePoint, any input will be greatly appreciated.... did search the forum but could not find anything....

So basically we have a SQL Server DB with the metadata ONLY, WITHOUT the related files(doc/ppt/pdf..etc) which should've been in the DB and they are on a separate web server inside folders. Each row in the DB has a key (column) which matches the related folder's name, so for row with ID #112, there's a folder named ID112 on the web server with the relevant files inside. There could be more than 8+ files for one folder.

Now, I think it is possible but just wanted to double check, would it be possible to use SSIS and some kind of a script to get the metadata inside the SQL DB AND the related files inside those folders, combine & relate them and upload them into SharePoint as a custom list with file attachments? would they display the attachment normally (like the paperclip icon in a sharepoint list...etc) I wonder if anyone has tried this...

Any guidance, thoughts, suggestions for other solutions, inputs will be great!!! Thank you!!

Import Multiple XML files into Sql Server

Import Multiple Text Files

I have 150 data delimited text files that need to be imported to a text file. Each of them is named for the table for which they contain data e.g. address.txt contains data that needs to imported to the address table. So what I have done is create a SSIS package that contains a ForEach loop that iterates through the the files, and has a Load Data field object. What I haven't been able to figure out is what logic needs to be added for the Data Flow. I know I will need a Flat File Source with a connection source that is tied to file it is processing.  However, after all of that I am not sure what do because each text file contains a different table with different columns. Can someone explain to me how to handle this? Thanks, Isaiah

Insert multiple files to SQL Database in VB

My files are being inserted but the byte array is showing as a 0x0000... etc for every file after the first inserted file. The first inserted image is correct. Use SSIS to read files in SharePoint library

Hi,I'm trying to use SSIS to read data from an Excel file in a SharePoint document library and I am having some problems with it.First I tried to use the Excel file as a source file in an Excel Source task which worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER")Next I tried to read data from an Excel file on the SQL server file system which worked well on the SQL server.Next I tried to use a File System Task to copy the Excel file to the SQL server file system. This also worked well in BIDS but not on the SQL server. ("The file name \\sharepoint\mylibrary\myfile.xls specified in the connection was not valid.")I have also tried to let the SQL server agent run on a domain account that is set up as a reader on the SharePoint document library without success.Where am I going wrong?

Multiple Data Files Per Database Not Allocating

We recently read that I/O performance can be increased by creating multiple data files for a database: "As a general guideline, create one data file for each CPU" So went ahead and did this, and restarted the SQL engine, but still it is writing all data to the first file "Production_data_1". We would assume after we restarted it would reallocate the data across all four data files. Currently, the other three data files have 1GB of space allocated, but the engine is not writing data to the other three files. How can we distribute the existing data across all four data files? See a screenshot we took at: http://www.ftoperations.net/screenshot.png

Database snapshots do not work well with databases having multiple log files

Hi,

It appears there is a bug in the implementation of database snapshots.

If you create a snapshot on a database with multiple log files:
CREATE DATABASE MYDB_ss1000 ON (NAME = MYDB_DB_GROUP2FILE1, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_GROUP2FILE1_1000.ss')
, (NAME = MYDB_DB_GROUP2FILE2, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_GROUP2FILE2_1000.ss')
, (NAME = MYDB_DB_GROUP3FILE1, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_GROUP3FILE1_1000.ss')
, (NAME = MYDB_DB_GROUP3FILE2, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_GROUP3FILE2_1000.ss')
, (NAME = MYDB_DB_PRIMARY1, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_PRIMARY1_1000.ss')
, (NAME = MYDB_DB_PRIMARY2, FILENAME = 'D:\Restore\MYDB_DB_PRIMARY2_1000.ss') AS SNAPSHOT OF MYDB

Then restore from the snapshot:
RESTORE DATABASE MYDB FROM DATABASE_SNAPSHOT = 'MYDB_ss1000'

then all of you log files, but one will disappear. As a result the backup command will fail with the following message:
Msg 3636, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
An error occurred while processing 'BackupMetadata' metadata for database id 12 file id 10.
Msg 3046, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Inconsistent metadata has been encountered. The on

Importing multiple files to multiple tables in SSIS

I have a directory with 200+ txt files to import into SQL tables in a database. Each file name is the exact table name in the database(without the file extension, obviously). I am looping through each file with a for each loop and a variable is mapped and set in the source connection properties for the Expressions -> ConnectionString property, so each name will go into that variable without the file extensions, correct?  Now, I set the variable name to the table name in the destination for the table name under "Data Access Mode", but it is giving an error...do I have to assign variables to each part, (Connection String and Name)? Does anyone have a quick setup for this?

Thanks!

Extracting data from multiple CSV files using SSIS package

Hi,

I am new to SSIS. I am extracting data from multiple CSV files using SSIS package and copying that data into SQL server 2008  database. Can you please confirm if I can create only one package to handle all CSV files or I will have to create packages for each CSV file.

Column names and numbers are different in all CSV files.

Thanks,

Sandy

Import Multiple Excel Files of Different Format

Looking for suggestion on how to go about importing multiple distinctly different excel spreadsheets into separate tables. File names will be unique and wondered what options there are in SSIS to conditionally process files. Running SQL Server 2005 and BIDS 2005. What I would like to stay away from is 1 package for each file. Thanks.

SSIS 2008 - Import all CSV files in folder - each target different table

I'm new to SSIS 2008, and I'm attempting to import a series of CSV files into a database. I want to loop over every CSV file in a specified folder and import each file into a different table that must be created on the fly (name of table should be base name of file, i.e. with path and extension stripped off). The file structures are similar, but not identical, so the single target table solution won't work.

Using an example I found here:

http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-to-configure-foreach-loop-file.html

I'm able to successfully load all files into ONE table, but I need to load each file into a separate table. Can anyone provide some assistance on exactly how to modify the project to allow for a table to be created, on the fly, for each source file?

thanks,

Mark
