Add new content types to multiple libraries

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 27, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We use MOSS for document management and content types for document types (i.e. specification, quote, PO etc.)).  We would like to add additional content types to our libraries.  I was hoping to find a tool that would help me to propagate these new content types ad I am not a programmer.

Cannot Use Excel Spreadsheet (xlsx) as Template for Content Types or Document Libraries

I have created a document library, specifying that the 'Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet' be used as the document template.  When I try to create a new document by selecting the template from the 'new Document' drop down, I get a message stating that 'The document could not be created.  The required application may not be installed properly, or the template for this document library cannot be opened.' Additionally, the template is opened as template[1].xltx in notepad (with all of the funny characters you would expect).

I have Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on my computer, and I am able to open XLSX and XLTX files from SharePoint (just not from the 'new document' button).  I also have no problem with PowerPoint or Word templates in SharePoint. I am also able to open the excel template by navigating to the template in explorer view.  I've found that if I open Excel before I attempt to create a new document, the template will open in Excel, however the document is titled 'Template1' instead of 'Document1' as would be expected.  Any thoughts?

Multiple Content Types in a single list - how to edit fields outside a content type

I have a single list and created two content types on the list in order to reduce the amount of visible fields a user sees when entering a form.  Once the form is filled out by one group with the limited data, an alert is sent to another team that adds to the list item using the larger set of fields defined by the second content type.  Unfortunately it seems that the edit burron remembers ihe initial content type that the entry was created with.  Is there another url to access the edit button for the same entry using the alternate content typr?

Moving Document Libraries with Content Types & Metadata

Hello All,

Was hoping someone could give me some guidance on this issue.  I have been working on a document management strategy for my department's sharepoint site which consists of numerous document libraries configured to a number of content types..  Lots of metadata and views.. etc

Recently, the IT department in our organization has started work on a green slate installation of Sharepoint.. new server, fresh install, master pages, site hierarchy, the works..

Guess my question is, how hard is it going to be to migrate my document libraries  while keeping my metadata and content types intact?  I probably have about 21 content types and almost 10 Gigs of data to transfer over... not sure what the best approach is having all this content migrated over to the new portal.

I have done some research and either only find articles on moving content types or moving document libraries, but no articles on moving both and having the content types map to the document libraries while keeping the metadata.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Calendar newform.aspx multiple content types and default values.

SharePoint 2010 provides some new features on Calander views (of the OOTB calendar list). You can select a portion of the day and click "new event" directly in the calendar. This will take the selected startdate/time and enddate/time and prefill this in the newform. When you enable Group Planning on the calendar it will also take the user (of the selected calendar) and prefill it in the newform as well. Very nice.

I have created multiple content types on the OOTB calendar and would like the give the user a intinuitive UI of selecting the correct content type. The idea is as follows. The user selects a portion of the day, and click "new event" directly from the calendar. The user is taken to a custom page where he can select the desired content type and is then taken to the new form of the selected content type.

Now I'd like to take the values selected by the user (eventdate, enddate and user) and use them to create links to the newforms of the different content types. In Moss 2007 the selected values (startdate and starttime) were passed with the Querystring, which prefilled the newform. But in SharePoint 2010 these values are passed in some other way (javascript?)

How can i get these values (eventdate, enddate and user) and create multiple links with these values, which will pass them to a newform of the

How to set the order of custom fields in custom list definition of Multiple Content Types

Hi all,

First of all I am sorry for my poor english.

I have a custom list definition and I have mentioned two content types in the "Schema.xml" file of this list. I need to change the order of fields in NewForm.aspx and EditForm.aspx.

For e.g. I have two content types ContentType1 and ContentType2. ContentType2 is inheriting ContentType1.

Fields of ContentType1 are

1. Field1

2. Field2

and Fields of ContentType2 are

1. Field3

2 Field4

When these fields display on new form the order of fields is

1. Field1

2. Field2

3. Field3

4. Field4

But I need to change the order of field by

1. Field1

2. Field3

3. Field2

4. Field4

Can anyone help me to change the display order of fields in new and edit form?

Thanks & Regards,

SharePoint Tutorial - Content Types

SharePoint content types provide users with a way to manage and organize content in a more meaningful way. It's a reusable of settings you want to apply to a particular type of document in a library or item in a list.

Content Types in MOSS 2007

In this article I will try to describe the one of the best feature in Microsoft office Share Point 2007 called Content Types.

Content types are simply collection of contents. Each content in a Content type can have different settings.Basically it is a reusable collection of settings which you want to apply to a particular category of contents.

Content Types

Please could someone enlighten me a little bit on what content types are and how they are used?

User control with multiple item content

I have a user control that I would like to contain multiple items as its content, similar to the way a <StackPanel> works. I tried using a <ContentPresent/> but it will only let me use a single item as the control's content. What's the best way to go about this? I realize I could just require the user to put a <StackPanel> or <Grid> or similar control as the content of the user control, but i would rather not do that if possible.   I'm not sure if it matters, but this control actually has several content presenters. Some of them will contain a single item and some will contain multiple items.

Storing multiple data types in a class?

I need help writing a class that will contain three values per item.  I'll be passing parameters to a report: Parameter Name, Data type (int, string, date, etc), and Value. When I pass those values to the report using the class they should be in original form (i.e. an integer should be a numeric, a string should be a string, etc.).  I can do it converting the data's value to strings on one end, and reconverting to the original data type on the other, which seems like a lot of runaround. Is there a simple way?  Also, if I'm able to store & retrieve the data in it's native format I don't need the "Data type" stored. Any help or tips will be appreciated.
