After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 to Sharepoint Server 2010

Hi there, We have Sharepoint Foundation 2010 already installed on Windows Server 2008, which uses SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (64 bit). There are sites already created and Custom lists and workflows. We then purchased a Sharepoint Server 2010 license. Is there an easy way to upgrade our current sharepoint using the same Database (Content DB). How do I deploy this new Sharepoint (on top of the Foundation) Worst case scenario: I have to remove Sharepoint Foundation and then install the licensed "Sharepoint Server 2010" version Please advise

Windows 7 Sharepoint 2010 Foundation

Hello again, we installed Sharepoint 2010 Foundation on a Windows 7 Professional OS 8GB 4Core machine and when we try to use a trial Version of Visual Studio 2010 we are getting "A 32 bit version of version of Windows Sharepoint Services is required by this project but is not installed on this system. Please install Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0, please download from MS or as part of MS Sharepoint Server 2007" I'm wondering if anyone might know if there is a key step we forgot to do or if this might be a Visual Studio 2010 setting per chance? Thanks very much again BobK

Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Foundation on SBS Server 2008

Hi all, I've just tried to install SharePoint Foundation on 2010 on Windows Small Business Server 2008 and whilst the literature I've found suggests that this is supported, I receive the following error: SharePoint 2010 Products cannot be installed in Stand-alone mode on a Domain Controller.  For more information on upgrading, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=975805. What's funny about the KB ID, is that it doesn't exist.  The pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 Foundation installed OK and the SharePoint installer has detected that it will perform an in-place upgrade.  the STSADM -o preupgradecheck output is below. Any idea's?  It would be really great if we could start using the shared workspace and ribbon features that are inherent with SPF2010. Jason.

Visual Studio 2010 can't find the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Server when compiliing, Standalone vs

I'm wondering if we installed Visual Studio correctly cos when we get into Visual Studio 2010 the "Deploy as a Farm Solution" is the only available button option and the "Deploy as a Sandbox Solution" is un-selectable, grayed out, assuming the "Sandbox" solution is the "Standalone" approach? So when we go to compile a Workflow, the error message says the Sharepoint Server is not found" Could this "Deploy as Farm Solution" be a problem when we were instructed to install Sharepoint 2010 Foundation as a "Standalone" install? in other words we're trying to find out why when we go to compile a Workflow in Visual Studio 2010 that it can't find the Sharepoint Server Step 3: Install SharePoint 2010 1.  To install SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint Foundation 2010, open a Command Prompt window, and then type the following at the command prompt: On the Choose the installation you want page, click Standalone to install everything on one developer workstation. Thanks very much for any suggestions, ideas or pointers! BobK

Error installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 machine

HI all, I'm installing the Developer edition of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (downloaded today) on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit virtual machine (using VMWare Workstation 6.5).  Yesterday I had tried MS SQL Server 2008 R0 with the same results.  Both give an error about 30% into the installation process: "An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'VSLangProj80,Version="8.0.0.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="8.0.50727.1826"' When I click the OK button, the install rolls that last bit back and then continues.  Unfortunatly I didn't take a screenshot of the main install window, just the error window. Any ideas what this error means?  The install yesterday seemed to work, but I'm not through the R2 install yet.  The R0 install also failed to install the documentation for some reason (I left it running during the night) Note that I have VS2010 (original release plus downloaded updates) installed and then just some small stuff like Snagit and Skype on this VM.  I updated Windows 7 completely before I started installing R2 so it is completely up to date as of midnight! Can WEBDAV be disabled in Sharepoint 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 R2?

Hello, we had some issues with WEBDAV use with Sharepoint 2010 placed behind WEBSeal proxies. We decided to only use FPSE (front page server extensions) for an external access to this portal. I cannot find a way, how to disable WEBDAV, or how to force clients to only use FPSE with this portal. It is fair, to say, that we would like to make such configuration on a server side, rather then configure client computers. We are running Sharepoint 2010 on a Windows Server 2008R2 server (i.e. IIS 7.5) thank you in advance for help/ideas Roman Cernovsky
